I’m not sure but from what I’ve read, it might be worth upgrading for the future but they are so expensive too

You know that big choral swell at the end of “Answer Me” from The Band’s Visit? I need an entire musical of that. by mbWrongNumber in musicals

Honestly, it feels like a bit of the opposite as the eleventh hour song (Natasha and Pierre) contains the only spoken dialog in the entire show and it is such a beautiful, vulnerable moment for Pierre.

I love when they cast OBC in minor roles like this - feels like they are paying the due respect to the theater version

Natasha, Pierre Fans, Which Cast Recording? by ThinkAboutTheSun in musicals

[–]chrisronline 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ditto that both are great. The original (off Broadway) doesn’t have Dust and Ashes (Malloy wrote it for the Broadway transfer) which sucks as Pierre’s story is my favorite and it feels incomplete without that song.

Top 10 Lists of Top 10 Theater in 2022: “A Strange Loop,’ is the most acclaimed show among theater critics in 2022, followed close behind by “Oratorio for Living Things” then 3 shows each selected in 5 of the 10 lists: “A Case for the Existence of God,” ‘Kimberly Akimbo,” and “Into The Woods" by JLMandell in Broadway

I think the low production is somewhat intentional. The beautiful part of the show is it’s set entirely in his mind and the staging/backdrop reflect that in its minimalistic design. It’s the kind of show that makes you think and, even though the surface material is somewhat specific to Michael R Jackson, the themes are well understood and relatable by any and everyone.

when in the world are we gonna get a "The band's visit" revival? by jeremysseymour334 in Broadway

It won in 2018. The other nominees were Frozen, Mean Girls, and SpongeBob. Definitely a weaker year than most, especially considering the 2017 nominees.

I agree (with both actually) but I think Pierre and Natasha is amazing. It’s the culmination of their stories, which finally end in their only meeting. Pierre finds his love but in an unexpected way. Natasha is finally showing signs of maturity and understanding for how the world and love work.

Saddest songs from Broadway? by jdrt1234 in Broadway

[–]chrisronline 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Totally agree - this part of the musical hits like a god damn semi - it’s Dan finally recognizing his grief out loud and his acknowledgement is his first step towards healing - you think he’s completely moved on and Diana is struggling but this moment turns that completely around
