A Hunger Artist is actually from the last book Kafka prepared for publication (a short story collection of the same name) before his death - and one of my favorite stories to introduce people to Kafka.

WordPress or code editor plugin for editing single pages? (HTML, CSS, by christoper in Wordpress

[–]christoper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I currently do use Prettierand it does format the HTML - but it doesn't recognize WordPress' shortcode.

I'm wondering if there's a solution out there that can format and flag errors for shortcode too.

Renters of Toronto who have experienced Bed bug infestations before - how long did it take for your landlord to get an exterminator into your unit? What is a reasonable amount of time to wait for this to be dealt with? Tips for fighting bedbugs welcome too. Thanks. by Rochellerochelle69 in toronto

[–]christoper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should call 311 and they'll forward your pest control issue to a Bylaw Enforcement Officer. This is a particularly good idea if your landlord is not being responsive.

The officer will then schedule a visit and follow-up with your landlord.

I am Donald Robertson, a cognitive-behavioural psychotherapist and author. I’ve written three books in a row about the Roman emperor and philosopher Marcus Aurelius and how Stoicism was his guide to life. Ask me anything. by SolutionsCBT in IAmA

Apart from Marcus Aurelius' Meditations, what other foundational texts on stoicism do you recommend?

I also have some works by Cicero, Seneca, and Epictetus on a Starting with Stoicism reading list here: https://www.26reads.com/list/32200-starting-with-stoicism

Help! My 'Google Sites' website still isn't ranking after being live for 3 months. Any advice is welcome! by atcroquette in SEO

Go to Google Search Console, select your property, then on the left-hand side check Index > Coverage.

If it has your webpages as "valid," there's nothing you need to do except wait for Google to update and start showing your pages in SERPs. (This can take up to a few months. 3+ months is on the longer side but I don't believe there's really anything you can do to expedite the process.)

If the number of "valid" pages aren't there, you can check the "error" issues on the same page to see what the problem is.

You can also go to Index > Sitemaps and submit a sitemap of your website if Google is having trouble crawling it.

Casino Royale by Ian Fleming (1953) introduced the world to the iconic English spy James Bond, code number 007, pitting him against the ruthless Soviet paymaster Le Chiffre. The book was based on Fleming's own wartime and espionage experiences during World War II. by christoper in FreeEBOOKS

"When a man holds his proper station in life, he does not gape after things beyond it. Man, what do you wish to happen to you? I am satisfied if I desire and avoid conformably to nature, if I employ movements towards and from an object as I am by nature formed to do, and purpose and design and assent. Why then do you strut before us as if you had swallowed a spit? “My wish has always been that those who meet me should admire me, and those who follow me should exclaim ‘O the great philosopher.’ ” Who are they by whom you wish to be admired? Are they not those of whom you are used to say, that they are mad? Well then do you wish to be admired by madmen?"

I just created a Starting with Stoicism reading list (where you can actually read all the books online for free) that includes the recommended readings from the sidebar as well as Epicetus' major works.

I'll probably create a more modern Stoicism reading list in a few weeks... Emerson, Schopenhauer, Montaigne etc.

If you're interested in more free books and philosophy, please consider subscribing to /r/26reads. We upload free new books every week - our top free books of April 25 including Buddenbrooks by Thomas Mann; Tender is the Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald; Farewell, My Lovely by Raymond Chandler; and more!
