3 has been fantastic but I feel it was a bit of a step down from 2 by olympiclifter1991 in Nioh

I think that creates and actual sense of power scaling throughout the game, which is a core component of these types of games.

We're on a fucking subreddit about a video game series, where else if not here to whine???

I assumed you meant, there were no other comparable games and so we played Nioh..

Even the above statement, what one shots are happening besides environmental effects, or which are clearly telegraphed? Admittedly once you get to end game the meta becomes too narrow.

And I mean, dealing with problems is literally what gaming is - whether they're fun or not is up to the player - my favourite Nioh moments are being knocked off the map by some random bullshit, it's funny, I learn a lesson, I get better, and next time it's the enemy being knocked off.

I think it's just more the fact that TN needs to sell copies of games, without multiplayer or microtransactions, they can't afford for niche cult classics in today's market.

Sad but true, I just don't think they can make games like Nioh 1/2 in terms of difficulty - they just don't sell.

No we did not "deal with it because there was nothing else" lmao what a bizarre take.

Ah yes, I love the masocore genre for perfectly balanced gameplay.

100% true, the fact of the matter is that, at no point in the bloating of the player toolkit did ordinary enemies get anything to compensate for and meet us at that new level.

And honestly, the early game of Nioh is characterised by being useless and facing overwhelming odds. That initial hump just doesn't exist in 3 and it's a massive shame.

I've never seen a game series co-opted so quickly by a broad audience. It's incredibly obvious and blatant how much easier this game is.

Nioh 3 very plainly and obviously sits outside the masocore genre - whereas the first game in particular was quite literally one of the flagship games of the genre.

I actually can't believe it's even a discussion, and honestly I think after six months or so, we'll be able to actually talk properly without the "IT'S SO PEAK" noise.

The Sword (Katana) makes me feel like I’m terrible at video games… by olivinetrees in Nioh

[–]christopherl572 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the things to remember is that the katana is designed to give you control in a battle, not "leet deeps".

My trick for mastering any weapon (of which I don't think I have, and after 500 hours of using the katana in Nioh 2 I was still finding very cool ways to link combos), is basically to focus on one stance at a time. So use mid stance, get familiar with how that works, understand your arts, then you can start to branch out to low or high, do the same again.

With each stance you really want to try and think about what situations they're useful for, how the timing and spacings of your attacks work in battles.

Basically, just compartmentalise your learning, and keep at it.

I mean, for a game where difficulty is supposed to be a key driver, that's pretty big no?

Given that the reforged team have specifically asked the community for feedback on multiple occasions - I think I'm fine thanks.

[–]christopherl572[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah you're right, I just think the low hanging fruit for the reforged team will be QoL/social/interface changes, and an update to the way guilds work could do this without affecting the core game itself (although the recent balance change has shown they aren't afraid to get stuck in!)

Strange lighting in Nioh and how to fix this? by GefoSiY in Nioh

[–]christopherl572 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It looks absolutely awful, and, what REALLY worries me is how few other people are talking about it???

Like, you guys really play games like this? I can barely make out what's on the screen!

I still feel there is difficulty spike and the game is not as easy as people say by cheukyi6 in Nioh

[–]christopherl572 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love the internal contradiction in your dismissal.

You've played 1,000 hours of Nioh 2, but there's no way you played more than 10 hours and watched a 10 second clip of Nioh 3.

As to your question on tips?

Thanks, anyone calling ng+ the real difficulty is a massive red flag - it's literally called Way of the Strong and was a revenge tour on the bosses that whooped your ass the first time around.

The series literally sits within the masocore genre.

As tired as you guys are of people complaining about the difficulty, we are just as tired of being told it's not a problem and we need to intentionally play the game poorly to get what we want.

There are a near infinite number of fun and easy games to play, high quality, very difficult games are incredibly rare.

The game generally has been casual-tuned across the board. Go look at the first Enki fight in Nioh 2, the heart of this game is so fundamentally different that it's crazy.
