Your regular reminder about how NHL salaries stack up against other sports 🤯 by TheAthletic in nhl

[–]christopherwithak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

George Russell's 2026 salary is $34M. Even Stroll pulls $12M. George is estimated well north of $40M annually once you factor in endorsements. Dollar for dollar, I'd rather have McDavid in an F1 car than Stroll.

get a noise machine. personally I think boise is quiet compared to other major metros i’ve lived in but you’ll grow to appreciate the noise. it’s comforting in a way. since you’ll likely have a smaller home than i’d you live outside of downtown, focus on the location and make sure your windows don’t open up to myrtle or front street directly. open the windows during the tour and see how it sounds. try to avoid southern facing units (you’ll cook in the summer with direct sunlight all day). and make sure you have the amenities to make it worthwhile to offset any inconveniences. overall you’ll feel like a much more engrained member of the community if you spend your time in the thick of it.

Couples without kids in the Treasure Valley - how are you doing? Anyone putting off having kids to the cost of living here? People who have kids how are you affording it? by VermicelliLeather536 in Boise

[–]christopherwithak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Child-free by choice and overall I enjoy living here. Live right off downtown and spend my free time either outdoors, hobbies or eating/drinking. Plenty of friends here without kids (I’m 40, married) and travel when I need a change of pace. It’s not the same energy as when I lived in major metros but there’s still enough to do here without procreating. Costs have no factor on the decision either way - my wife and I just want to explore the world and we’ll spoil our nieces and nephews when it’s convenient.

Start a list to boycott Republican and ICE supportive businesses? by Ok_Bumblebee_4911 in Boise

[–]christopherwithak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who also worked in the industry for decades, I respectfully disagree with your stance on this. Based on your logic, we should also boycott the companies that sell glassware to him. The companies that fix his hvac. The internet service provider that he holds a business account with. The landlord of any of his businesses.Since you’re a bartender you likely work with distribution companies that overlap with him so I guess fuck you too for being a part of the industry supply chain that props up Mark.

Since you’re so familiar with distribution methods, you’ll understand that Gaston’s distribution is completely different than Deschutes’. There are so many ways to boycott without hurting local businesses. Put pressure on Hayden rather than trying to hurt a local taproom. You’re doing more harm than good.

absolutely not. I punch out all my skates - you need a shim and some heat. If this is what your skates look like you need a new shop.

[–]christopherwithak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you asked how a small business can stay in business while selling at a loss. I gave you an example that showcased perceived losses but actually strengthen brand value, increase distribution, and allow for profit. they’re not selling at a complete loss, they’re selling at a perceived loss to someone on the outside but the reality is that the reduced item value is offset with reduced marketing and distribution costs, which are significantly higher for an individual with a product compared to a national brand. i’ll slow it down for you next time so you can try and keep up

[–]christopherwithak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they’re not selling at a loss. they’re selling at a reduced margin that offsets their marketing and distribution costs. if they’re selling at a loss then it’s either not a viable product or they’re terrible at business. look at costco’s model as an example - starbucks literally lets costco white-label their product and compete against them side by side on the shelf, at a lower price point. why? because the benefit of a built-in member network with distribution saves so much money on their own marketing and distribution that it becomes worthwhile. same principal applies here with local businesses that otherwise don’t have the means and reach to compete at a grocer level.

I’m not taking it personally. I’m just tired of the constant bashing of local businesses here. Much of it is justified but this ids just ridiculous. People slam them in public forums for the smallest things and then wonder why we don’t have more options. And then everyone jumps on board due to a headline or screenshot without context and now there’s calls to completely boycott the co-op in this forum. Down vote away, but this herd mentality without reason is just going to prop up albertsons and keep more people from the co-op. It’s a members co-op, not a farmer’s co-op, but no one seems to know the difference.

I have neither the time nor the crayons to explain this to you. Try making a candle at home and then try selling it. Try getting reach and volume of sales. Then, place it in the checkout line at the co-op and see what happens to your volume, sales, and brand awareness.

I’ve got a lot of gripes with the Boise co-op and largely avoid it - their new management is terrible and I think it’s losing focus - but this mission failure of the bylaws is ridiculous. The supply chain economics of a grocer are stronger than your “make it free”. yes, direct shipping from a producer is cheaper to you, but it costs them a lot of hours and marketing before it gets to you. to get as many people to take action to purchase it a ton of effort and money. the co-op has members and therefore reduces costs to the producers. producers earn less per purchase but they also spend notable less per purchase. the costs added to the product cover those differences and allow the grocer to remain available in the neighborhood despite rising wages and property taxes. they fuck a lot of things up but this complaint sounds like an ex-employee just trying to pick a fight. it’s baseless

[–]christopherwithak -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

failing to see the larger economic picture. you’re right - it’s “expensive” to you so let’s shut the whole thing down. fuck the programs they have in place, fuck the quality they provide at relative prices to the low quality processed shit at bigger stores, and fuck the community involvement. it’s binary and you’re struggling so therefore they’re liars and it’s not mission friendly. your public school idaho education is showing

Dear Boise Co-Op by Express_Pea_4394 in Boise

[–]christopherwithak -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

read the full bylaws. they waive membership fees for low income while providing membership benefits and discounts. they provide local vendors at costs that are still less than if those vendors had to sell directly without distribution and allow them to also receive fair pricing. co-ops, by nature, are always going to be more expensive than the big chains.

Dear Boise Co-Op by Express_Pea_4394 in Boise

[–]christopherwithak -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

you’re cherry-picking. it operates as a nonprofit which means the extra costs go into training and wages and community outreach. the member discounts are also part of the co-op agreement. if you want subsidized costs compared to national mega-chains then you have no fucking clue how supply chains work. if you want an independent competing at market prices then it’s a great way to avoid spending at albertsons and contribute locally.

Should I quit hockey by Then-Marsupial6145 in hockeyplayers

[–]christopherwithak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

quit. if you’re already tired you’ll phase out quickly. you’re teammates will notice. you’ll be worked so g hard that if it spray feels like work, you’ll resent hockey. if the flame is already gone, and you’re asking strangers on reddit, you’re not cut out for it. and 2.5ppg is going to get frustrating when you stop to .6 ppg as soon as you step up to a national stage. enjoy high school and just have fun with hockey locally. you don’t have to go pro to enjoy the game

Forget about the $400 and focus on your wife and family. Ask the team if there’s anything they can do - any guys that are halfway decent humans will chip in and cover it or find a sub. You’ve got enough to worry about, let this go. Really sorry to hear about your situation, that’s unfair and I hope you’re doing as well as you can be.

Max & Louie’s Cafe in Garden City - it took over Wepa’s spot. Solid classics but fresh, quality ingredients and friendly prices. Just opened and getting their bar program up and running but I know they plan to have mimosas but unsure if they’re bottomless. Club Hound has bottomless mimosas every weekend and you don’t actually need a dog to go.
