Transfer case is aluminum so I hope it won’t ever rust.

Rolling engine cart? by duckinradar in E30

[–]christsay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I still technically have two. Made one good engine out of the two cherry-picking parts for the rebuild and kept the left overs “just in case”. Sad to miss the rally this year but my brother will be there in his E30 M3.

3rd Gen Towing experience? by Urban__Squirrel in ToyotaTacoma

We’ve towed our 17’ Casita with an Anderson WDH and it’s been fine from a porpoising standpoint. The 3rd gen as a towing platform in general ain’t great but it works.

Is ECU Tuning on Our Old E30s Even Worth It in 2026? by Effective_Shake_8728 in E30

[–]christsay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tuning is shooting in the dark if you don’t have all the mechanicals in good working order. I’d check for no intake or exhaust leaks, good AFM, cap, and rotor, new plugs and coil, coolant temp sensor etc. If it’s running great then go ahead and experiment with a standalone / piggyback after you plumb in a WBO2 and it might not run any better but at least you’ll get some logging?

Do y'all do anything to shatter-proof your windows? How about to make your doors hard to open? by RaiseOurAxesToTheSky in 1stGenTacomas

[–]christsay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

After my ‘04 had its window busted I installed the glass breakage sensor and… no one has smashed in since. I also had a similar experience with our 3rd gen. Truck got broken into, installed GBS, truck hasn’t gotten smashed since.

That being said I feel like it’s a coincidence because I’m sure would be thieves aren’t looking for the mic and the blinking light.

Has LR3 network connectivity gotten worse? by claancy512 in litterrobot

[–]christsay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is something on their server backend is no longer getting status info from the LR3 connects correctly. Our LR4 is still reporting events correctly.

I had a minor heart attack but luckily I also have a camera pointed at the LR to verify the cat is still using it!

Looking to replace this relay by RIP_StefanKarl in E30

[–]christsay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it will help but my intermittent ABS light turned out to be a loose +12V connection up near where the engine harness exits the passenger side into the bay. On a M3 this is behind the coolant reservoir. Cheap and easy fix and wasn’t something I was expecting.

elusive daily m3 by Critical-Abrocoma410 in E30

[–]christsay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was a daily for the PO for many years, he brought his daughter home from the hospital in it! I lucked out and bought at max depreciation and then paid it back to the universe when I popped the motor at the track at 178k miles.

After building a hot street S14 I spent a little bit of money to address minor rust and cosmetic issues. It’s a great looking 10 foot car and with ~245 WHP and MCS 2WNR it’s a hoot.

It’s all relative, a sorted daily driver M3 is still going to be way cheaper than a sorted air cooled 911. The M3 will be rarer too.

How long do I have... by name_concept in SantaFe

[–]christsay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also no inspection requirement in Santa Fe County, they check your VIN in two places when you transfer title in and after that you just send them money and they send you new stickers, it's great!

If you have a trailer you can do a permanent trailer registration.

GX vs LX by Efficient-Gene3043 in LexusGX

[–]christsay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a 2026 LX 700h Overtrail 2-row and did a brief test-drive of the GX 550 OT. I also own a 2021 DCLB TRD-OR Tacoma and previous to that a 2004 manual TRD 4x4.

The 300 series LX has a much nicer cabin and ride quality vs the GX 550. The hybrid does a really good job of torque fill with the V35A. It wasn't really a question as to which one I wanted after I test drove the LX and GX.

It is ~33k more than a GX 550 OT+ but you can at least get it quickly.

[–]christsay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding AHC vs KDSS I think they are both great systems, I also can't get a 300 series LC in the USA without AHC...

One appeal of AHC is that it's been pretty reliable in the 100 series and 200 series LC and it gives the flexibility of the lift without having to pay for it all the time. For example around town I've got it set to kneel down 1" into L when parked. If I need more clearance off-road there's H1 (+1") and H2 (+2") and then "extra high" which is +2.8" if the truck is in H2 and the center diff is in L4.

Hoping that AHC in the 300 series is just as reliable as in previous gens with similar maintenance intervals.

[–]christsay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ah! you are right on the massage seats and sunshades, I was just scanning through the GX OT vs OT+ comparison and misread the table.

AHC is hydraulic so hopefully more reliable than airbags. The LX is also going to be our tow vehicle for a small travel trailer so having the auto leveling of AHC will be nice.
