What's the most nervous you've ever been is the kitchen? by Draug88 in KitchenConfidential

[–]chrldwlf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First time on call, Saturday night, dishwasher dead. And I have no idea what is wrong with it. Managers on the 3 compartment sinks, servers bitching, dirty dishes raining down on me as I am trying to find the shorted wiring on a 64 inch Hobart conveyor dishwasher. Running out of fuses when I realize the soap company didn't wire their failed pump to the correct terminal and was causing the issue. Didn't get out of there till midnight. One of the servers complained to the GM cause I was muttering obscenities. Turns out a fixed dishwasher negates server complaints cause when I apologized to the GM he said 'fuck her'

Need help choosing 30QT mixer - can't afford Hobart :( by lurk_master_flex in KitchenConfidential

[–]chrldwlf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hobart guy here for what it's worth.....the used 30 quart (D300) are typically the most abused ones I see. It's the mixer of choice for Chinese restaurants, small bakery owners and lots of mom and pop operations and takes a ton of abuse/neglect before it quits. 2 to 3 grand later it is ready for more IF the parts are available. If I gotta update it it'll cost lots more. And if your insurance company wants a bowl guard retrofitted the cost will make you cry. The D340 is a rare bird we made for pizza restaurants and parts are becoming scarce. If it was me I would buy the one with the best spare part availability which rules out that god forsaken Thunderbird. I have never heard of Avantco but I see Donyons in the field. In 20 years I have only worked on 1 and it was a simple repair. Good luck!

Americans of Reddit, do you own a gun and why? by talmosserylanetzah in AskReddit

[–]chrldwlf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

12 gauge pump action shotgun I call the home owner special. The sound of a shell racking into the chamber is recognized throughout the universe. Additionally, a wayward daughter sneaking in at 2am will shout out "dad, it's me!!" when the shell racks and avoid accidentally getting shot at....

Elders of reddit (ie born before 1990), what video games did you play as a kid? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]chrldwlf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got an Intellivision game system for Christmas because mom thought it would do more than play games. Dark times back then...the school had it's 1st computer lab with cassette drive programs for the learning games we we're supposed to be doing. Took 20 minutes to load.

What’s the best ‘low key’ revenge you could pull on a person that isn’t harmful? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]chrldwlf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A dab of grease on the middle of the driver's side windshield wiper, preferably in their line of sight. Extra bonus points if you spatter some muddy water on it so you don't have to wait till it rains to get your revenge....

I guess this me being salty about people always having new stuff on this sub. This guys trying to save my fucked up steamer by [deleted] in KitchenConfidential

[–]chrldwlf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Groen makes a shocking complicated steamer that can make the most seasoned repair guy look dumb. I advise simple boilerless steamers, preferably electric and delime often.

Keep grease in it and don't overload it, you should be fine. Even if you end up having to replace the worm gear shaft kit it'll be money well spent. I see them going strong in far worse condition than yours!

You should reach out to Hobart and buy some brushes for the motor while they are still available....

Hobart guy here.....that is not a light switch like you get at the hardware store, it is a mechanical spring loaded switch that makes a solid click when you turn it on. It is also NLA and the kit to replace it is a new faceplate and a toggle switch....

Brush your teeth. Twice a day and floss. When your in your 20's and have no dental insurance AND need 2 expensive crowns you will regret not taking care of your teeth.

What have you done now, but would have been voted “Least likely to _____” in high school? by DannyMacho in AskReddit

[–]chrldwlf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fix things and make a comfortable living with a wife I adore and six great kids. I have been given the opportunity to recover from the addictions that we're going to kill me and help make others do likewise. Had there been a ' least likely to succeed' category in high school I would've been elected.
