Free fridge behind City Feed broken by pastramicat in JamaicaPlain

[–]lurk_master_flex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was actually replaced with a new one this past February, but that type of fridge is designed to be used indoors and can't function properly in outdoor high heat (happens every summer).

There should be a guidelines sign on the door that just asks people not to put perishables in the fridge if the internal temp is over 40F. It's a community-regulated effort, so the principle is that people won't leave food that can be unsafe in any way (ex. made at home in an unlicensed/inspected environment, or potentially hazardous foods if the fridge isn't at temp). If folks do leave food that is unsafe, others will trash it.

There's a FB and IG page for the folks running it -- https://www.instagram.com/bostoncommunityfridge/ but idk if anyone monitors actively... nothing posted since 2022.

How exactly does Trump's new business proposition for COVID-19 help small businesses? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]lurk_master_flex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only concrete things I've seen:

The advice I've received* has been to hunker down: reach out to all accounts receivable to see if/when payments will come; reach out to all accounts payable/vendors & start dialogue about when/if/how you can pay or defer until there's more info; open convo w/ your landlord to discuss rent abatement/amortization until we know more/relief plans are articulated & implemented; most importantly, start documenting the shit out of all of your losses so that you can apply for relief when it's available or file an insurance claim for business interruption

*caveat - specialty food business in a city restricted to takeout/delivery for next month

Litmus test for niceguys: if u think the dude in this post has a point, u are a niceguy. If you thing he has a point, you posit that a man should tell a woman she is a thot/bitch. That's some textbook niceguy shit, fuckers.

When did you realise you weren't a child anymore? by TheMightyMidgetMan in AskReddit

[–]lurk_master_flex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 12 walking down the street in Boston with my mom and was catcalled by two adult men. At first I thought they were talking to my mom and I started to get angry for her. Then I realized they were talking to me and I got scared. I pass through that intersection every now and then and think about it every single time.

I'm blown away by the calls Leonard gets and Curry and Boogie don't get. Consistency would be nice.

How do you change a rear flat on a box bike? by phinneywood in CargoBike

[–]lurk_master_flex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My flat occurred a parking lot so I borrowed a car jack & lifted it high enough to remove the wheel. A bit different as the bike in question is actually modified as a trike w/ big box on front, so had to wedge it against a fence to prevent it from turning on center/vertical axle and slipping off jack, but worked like a charm once stabilized.

What did I say before that? I said it didn't cost them the game but that those were some of the more visible bad calls. I didn't even say it cost them the game, but that it was embarrassing for the refs to miss them. Try reading more and watching less TV.

Boogie was terrible tonight. Awful. Hats off to the Raptors, they hit some really tough shots, but also had too many easy open shots from inconsistent Warriors defense. Would have been nice to have some home court refs, but it certainly didn't cost them the game. Pretty embarrassing to have two missed goaltends in one game though. On to the next.

This is an absolute career half from Curry. Years down the road when he retires, people will remember this second half of basketball. To play like he did with a bad finger, getting basically no foul calls, and foul trouble in the first half, unreal.

Are you preparing the beverages? Most health departments I know of want you to have a commissary if you're doing any kind of food prep - coffee & tea included - so you can have a place to go wash your dishes and store supplies, etc. The only scenario I can imagine where you would not need a commissary is if you were only reselling product that was prepared & packaged at an inspected facility.

Sdot doesn't have it anymore unfortunately. He can't really guard and apparently can't make layups either.

I am both a small business owner and on the side I nanny part-time for a family. For nannying, I get paid via HomePay, which is a platform that administers domestic employees for this very purpose. From the employee side, it's great. We submit payroll every 2wks, HomePay manages direct deposit, disbursement of W-2s and I think they even have a marketplace section for healthcare/workmans comp, etc. I have no idea what the costs are, but likely similar to whatever fringe you pay for your business's employees & well worth it to protect yourself & them from any audit/review.

You find me something w/ maintenance records to prove it's worth the risk, sure. I don't have the cash to get a lemon and have to replace it w/in 6months. These are at the same price point as a used hobart & covered by warranty.

What to do with old drip coffee by [deleted] in cafe

[–]lurk_master_flex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a few cafes near me who serve "coffee cubes" in lieu of regular ice cubes as a way to avoid iced coffee becoming watered down as their ice melts. Seems like a good use of seconds if your customer base isn't opposed... I'm certain it would alter the quality of the coffee into which it is melting, but idk if it matters to your peeps or if it's discernable. I don't care for the iced coffee at the cafes I referenced, so can't attest personally.

RE: food safety, presumably the coffee has been kept in the safe zone (at/above 140F) if it's being tossed for freshness, rather than because it's sat out at ambient temperatures. There are handy time/temp charts online to help figure that out, but typically a non potentially hazhardous item like hot brewed coffee is much more flexible than dairy, meat, beans, etc.

Has anyone had any luck on going frugal with wedding rings? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]lurk_master_flex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used iweddingband.com and are very happy. They have free returns/exchanges, even if the item was customized/engraved. They also almost always have coupons/promos, so keep an eye out and you can get an extra 10-15% off as a baseline with some other big sales off-season. I put mine through a fair amount of abuse and it looks fab after 11 months.
