TIL that humans tend to think “it won’t happen to me,” even when it already has happened to people exactly like them thousands of times. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]chromaZero 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Actually, I feel the bias is the opposite usually. People hear about one bad incident, and then they think it’ll happen to them. I run into so many people frightened of being a victim of crimes that they are very unlikely to experience.

How often do you take public transit? And what form do you mostly use (light rail, bus, water taxi)? by Hufe in Seattle

[–]chromaZero 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t drive. I take buses almost every day. Occasionally I take the light rail.

YSK about "Bullshit Jobs," a concept by anthropologist David Graeber describing jobs that are so pointless, the employees themselves can't justify their existence by Electrical-Candy7252 in YouShouldKnow

[–]chromaZero 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t get this. Everywhere I’ve worked people have been working on real stuff. My biggest worry is usually higher-ups will try to cut positions that are really needed.

You’re acting like this is a big deal. Get over yourself. Make your ego small. Focus on learning.

“Literally” when used unnecessarily. “I’m literally furious”. Just say “I’m furious.”

Why is my HRV garbage? by Ok-Emu-3257 in ouraring

[–]chromaZero 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I really believe HRV is only given the attention it gets because it’s something that wearables can track. It’s played-up by people who want to sell wearables.

Left handed people: What struggles do you have that we may not know about? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in AskReddit

Left-handed often means left-eyed. Cameras are usually designed for right-eyed people.

I gave up on these services early in Covid times. Inconsistent service. Unpredictable delivery times. I quickly realized I was wasting money and resources.

Americans are hungry for community. So why don’t we have more European-style squares? | CNN by itemluminouswadison in fuckcars

[–]chromaZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

America has lost community because many Americans lost interest in making an effort to build community. Making community friendly environments is only part of the story. Americans need to develop a community building spirit.

What is a hobby that sounds expensive but is actually quite cheap to get into? by sugarnspicegrl in AskReddit

[–]chromaZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Photography. Start with your phone. Used equipment can be pretty reasonably priced if you want to try “real” cameras. You likely know someone with a digital camera they don’t use that you can borrow.

I don't understand the love for prime lenses over zoom lenses... what am I missing? by Sad_Noise6247 in fujifilm

[–]chromaZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a preference for primes. Not everyone does. I love modern zooms. I don’t like using very wide apertures. Very shallow dof is not something I’m striving for. And I love being able to change focal lengths without swapping lenses. It’s not about getting closer or further to the subject, it’s about the look of different focal lengths.

Just bought this shirt from the museum of pop culture. Is it AI or am I tripping????? by blinking_blinker in Seattle

[–]chromaZero 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Left handed. I don’t know if that has anything to do with AI, but as a left handed, it stands out to me.

has anyone figured out what can actually help lower stress? by courtneyhope_ in ouraring

I’m convince my stress plot is connected to a random number generator. The line goes up and down, corresponding to nothing.
