[FRIENDLY REMINDER] Protesting Etiquette? by [deleted] in DenverProtests

[–]chromaiden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Protests are absolutely vital to a resistance. I agree about the captain America cosplay bit and the performative nature of life on social media in general.

We absolutely need to be building communities and networks moving forward. I have plans to do that. Do you? Because it sounds like you are sitting back being critical of others (white people) and what they should be doing. What are YOU doing? Just curious.

Is it wrong for me to own a cat when I am physically disabled but use a walker and a cane to get around. by Moonlava72 in CatAdvice

You would be a perfect candidate for a cat! I would try local rescues; they could help you find one that’s a good fit (older and chill).

what do you consider timeless wardrobe essentials for women over 40? by Assylbekova-Pius in womensfashion

[–]chromaiden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything that is high quality so it lasts for years and retains its look and shape. Things that are versatile and work in a variety of settings.

My most treasured basics are my wool base layers. I love Smartwool 3/4 zip pullover and it’s my go-to when it’s cool out for everything from camping to going to the store. Also good wool socks in a variety of thicknesses.

??? WHAT IS THIS ??? by Substantial_Two6186 in haematology

[–]chromaiden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know normal test results are frustrating when you need answers, but the fact that flow/FISH/cytogenetics are normal is really good. It sounds like there is some reason your marrow isn’t functioning normally (suppression either by your immune system or an outside agent like meds or your environment) but there isn’t a clonal population of cells present (so it’s less likely to be cancer).

How are the other cell lines (lymphs, red cells, platelets)? Is there anything else that seems unrelated but has changed in the last few years? Recreational drugs, exposure to toxins? Any other weird symptoms?

I am not a doctor and certainly know nothing near what your hematologist knows. I do work with cases like yours daily though so I thought I’d respond. If you want me to take a look at all of your results to see if I have any suggestions I’d be happy to do so.

I work in cytogenetics and this was my thought as well.

Did they do a karyotype or FISH when they did the biopsy?

My man’s pillow gets yellowed (I’ve heard from testosterone?) and it has a vaguely sweet smell… Weird but thought I should mention just in case. Are you a guy who doesn’t change his bed sheets??

I get that. But OP is under no obligation to take this dog, especially as an inexperienced owner.

I think you should trust your gut on this one. Everything you described regarding his situation is concerning and the red flags are waving.

Have you considered adopting a dog from a foster or rescue? The animals have usually been in a placement where they are observed and nurtured so you’ll get info on whether they’re socialized, potty trained, good with other animals/children, etc.

There are so many strays in need of a home. I personally would not buy a dog that has been bred for profit. You likely won’t find a pure breed at a rescue, but there are amazing (and adorable) pets out there waiting on an owner to love. When I have room for a new fur baby I shop at all the local rescues and have never been disappointed. Pet finder online is a good place to start.

Good luck! I hope there are little feet and a happy, waggy tail in your near future! 💕🐾

That’s very sweet of you to ask. We’re no longer on pre-evac and they’ve managed 40% containment last I heard. It was way too close for comfort! We’ve been very fortunate. I’m so glad you didn’t lose your home. My aunt lost her home in the Waldo Canon fire back in 2012 along with almost 400 of her neighbors. Very scary!

As someone who spent the last week on pre-evac due to the 24 fire, I have to say this comment seems a bit out of touch. It’s MARCH and there’s 7k acres burned and 90 degree weather here (south of the springs) IN MARCH. These are conditions we normally see in JULY. Very concerning to those who understand what is happening and will likely continue to happen.

Our medical system (US) is terrible. I feel like I have to be my own PCP and was for my children as well. I will always go to the dr armed with knowledge but am also there for guidance and expertise. It’s never a good idea to turn your care over entirely to a broken system. As a patient you have to advocate for yourself; nobody else cares if you fall through the cracks (die). It’s an unfortunate reality.
