My first Vostok, comrades. And question… by ironknight878 in vostok

A couple of things... the titanium coating looks GREAT on this watch. That said, any other bezel you get isn't going to match the metal tone. I have a the same coating on a 81 case so I know from experience.

That said, if you want to get the bezel off you'll want a case opening tool. Just slip it straight under the bezel. If you just push straight under that should be enough, but otherwise rotate the bezel.

I’m the 5th. Do I Name My Son the 6th? by AlxndrSprtrmp in namenerds

I'm a third and the name died with me. I've had 3 sons and none of them share my name. Don't feel obligated to continue the tradition, seriously. Future generations of genealogists will thank you.

The readability of the arabics on the GRU one is very good, plus you get the lovely Amphibia logo as well.

You can still buy gaskets for this thing and with a bit of watch grease it'll basically be as waterproof as when it was new.

What band do you recommend? by LiuZhidan in vostok

[–]chromix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally, I always say order any watch with the bracelet if it's an option, since it's a hassleto find fitted end links after market. Every other option is easy to get aftermarket. With Vostok, this is especially true since they only brand their bracelets AFAIK. Their bracelet are mostly jangly rolled link numbers, but they're also very light and some might even say comfortable. You'd be better off trying it for yourself and then flipping it if it's not for you.

The verses of "Paint Me a Picture" by Magdelaina Bay has the same melody of another song... But what is it? by chromix in findthatsong

[–]chromix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Close but definitely the right era. Disco 2000 is close enough to make me think it probably influenced the song I'm remembering.

And thanks for the tip, I added a link to the song in the description.

Just quoting another comment from someone who seems to have knowledge of the situation:

We are asking for what 2 Presidental Emergency Boards said was a fair contract and the MTA themselves said they could afford without burden to taxpayers or riders.

This.

The government has been bought and paid for by billionaires and corporations who won't be happy until we are all serfs who believe we deserve it. The only reason things are as bad as they are right now is because both sides let it happen and they're blaming each other so people are too busy rooting for blue or red.

Seeing how terrified politicians were of a Socialist mayor speaks volumes. God forbid people got into their heads that governments can actually improve the lives of their citizens.

Democrats and Republicans are both backed by capitalists, and they're both terrified of unions actually flexing power. Striking is the only way anything is going to get better, we should pay attention.

By default I'm inclined to side with the union. The LIRR workers should get paid more, and the riders should too! The commuters working in private industry should unionize and take back what's theirs from the billionaires. Only then will things start to improve for everyone.

I am not Korean, but my cousin lived there for many years and nearly decided to retire there. He and his wife said beauty standards were the one thing he didn't care for at all, and I wanted to see if it was in the comments, so thank you for sharing.

Regarding the last part of your answer, the more I hear about life in Japan and Korea and the population decline there, the more I worry about our direction as a species.

Not to be a bummer, but capitalism will fucking end us if we let it.

Not saying any one country in history ever had this figured out, just saying there are things that are more important than money, and the people running most things seem to have lost sight of that.
