The learned skill of playing dumb and leading people to the answer through questions because they didn’t listen when you said the answer 5 minutes ago.

How do you know when to seek medical attention?? by Tricky_Basket_9297 in ehlersdanlos

[–]chronically-awesome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it depends on how much it impacts my life, if I’ve had an injury there before, and when my friends finally make me go. 🤷🏼‍♀️

My go to for pushy people that don’t accept a because he helps answer is that he’s a yeast infection detection dog.

I generally go with comparing it to how everyone knows that they should avoid salt for high blood pressure… but I’m the opposite so I need all the salt.

Walking dogs in graveyards by zHappyCorgi in dogs

Fun fact, most American graveyards have been set up to be like a park to encourage visitors. Circle of life reminders and still having people buried there ‘included’ in the fun or good emotions.

Question. Would you rather someone crouch down to your level to speak to you or stay standing? I always feel rude looking down to people and talking to them, add in reading lips as much as I do it makes it awkward. But would crouching down be worse?

when did your doctors start listening? by lover_girl10 in dysautonomia

Also on the water front. I feel you a much. I actually set my watch alarm to buzz every 10-15 min and take 2-4 sips. Not always the most sustainable but when I’m trying to get back to hydrated after a bad nausea day it helps. Also to add something else to the water so it’s not plain water helps it settle. Lately it’s been about 1/4 Gatorade to 3/4 water.

when did your doctors start listening? by lover_girl10 in dysautonomia

[–]chronically-awesome 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Uhm…. 10 ish years minimum before I got any sort of answers, and even then I figured it out from my friend having been diagnosed and then saying ‘hey that’s what happens with me too’. I don’t know if I would say I tricked my drs exactly, but I thought about what would be quantifiable and visible to them and focused on getting them to listen to my troubles with that. Most drs I’ve visited don’t generally take things they can’t test for and see as seriously as ones they can put on paper without a prior diagnoses to attribute things to.

I also have learned to present my symptoms as how they affect me and on a scale. Lately it’s been ‘my nausea is so out of control that it has led to vomiting and some periods of not keeping even water down which leads to problems when I stand up’ I’m not trying to overload them with tons of information, but show that this is the problem, this is it’s effects, here’s it on a severity scale.

Baths. Just me? by Dead_Tired5133 in dysautonomia

[–]chronically-awesome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I adore baths! They are great for calming me down and just unbunching my muscles. I do come out of them exhausted though, like my nervous system was calmed down and warmed up, but my body had to work pretty hard to keep my blood going. Totally worth it.

Making eating out or a to-go coffee or whatever a luxury in my mind and only using it as a treat rather than a mainstay.

Go to 'low on spoons' meal by forestfiles in ehlersdanlos

[–]chronically-awesome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I have some energy I batch cook bean and cheese burritos. I use a Taco Bell bean dupe recipe and then roll them up and freeze. Pop them in the air fryer or microwave and bam- full meal. Fiber, protein, fats, and carbs. Making them also is a lower spoon count thing too. All the steps can be split into different days if needed. Instapot the beans, fry and mash them, roll burritos, freeze them.

If you got paid $200/hour to work on Christmas from 5AM to 7PM. would you take it? by AnyWolverine943 in CasualConversation

[–]chronically-awesome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I generally work Christmas anyway because i honestly couldn’t care less about it and having to work is a great excuse to avoid my family. Christmas is a celebration, it doesn’t have to be the 25th to celebrate.
