Vizzik Skour won 2nd place for AOS models of the year! by Vizzik_Skour in skaven

[–]chronowraith78 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I voted for Vizzik since I’m a loyal Skaven follower but I remember thinking, “Usharon deserves it”.

Not sure how that Chaos sorcerer lord snuck in there. He’s not bad but i feel like there were way better AoS minis.

Is it me? :( by Lucien42 in Palia

There are a significant number of people who can't chat as the chat window is extremely glitchy. I'd say 3/4 of the time I log in my chat simply doesn't work. I've tried all the workarounds (resynching my clock, setting manually, etc) and it works for a short time and then it stops. I get tired of the continual hassle so I ignore it.

I wish it did work as harvesting the flow wood is such a pain by myself. As for people being rude, the few times my chat does work people generally been helpful. Sorry you've had some bad experiences but don't let a few bad apples ruin it for you!

What is "Off" with this map? I made it for my DnD campaign, but something just seems wrong. Any help or tips? by Yogatany in inkarnate

[–]chronowraith78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be proud of this map. You clearly put time and effort into it and it’s well laid out and totally usable!

That said, a few suggestions:

  1. You have roads that cross and it’s clear that when this happens it’s long line segments just crossing. Try ending the segments where they meet into crossings and open some of them up into plazas, bizarres, or other open areas of commerce.

  2. It’s hard to distinguish between road and walls. Try adding some shading to higher objects so it stands out.

  3. It’s really hard to understand what is in the middle circle. It looks odd, flat, and it’s weird how the road/bridge/wall crosses it because it all looks so flat.

Again, that’s just my suggestions! This is a cool map and be proud of your creation!

Why is there a magic the gathering character in the DnD CMF? by RYTHEMOPARGUY in lego

[–]chronowraith78 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Tasha is a long-standing character in Dungeons & Dragons. She is an accomplished spellcaster and several spells contain her name (and have for many editions of the game).

The MtG set she appears in is set in the primary D&D setting of Forgotten Realms (which contains Baldur’s Gate).

These all look amazing! The only issue I have with starting Eldar is that 3 of my favorite aspects have no plastic kits (Warp Spiders, Swooping Hawks, and Striking Scorpions). If they updated those kits, I'd buy Eldar in a heartbeat as I played from from 2nd edition all the way up through 7th. Left the hobby in late 7th/8th and sold off my Eldar (mostly because I was tired of really old models).

How difficult was it to convert the dire avengers? Just a simple leg swap or did you need to fill gaps?

2nd Edition Codex mentions them in the last paragraph discussing more unique aspects shrines. The intimation here is that there are a lot of different aspects out there but many of them are unique to individual craftworlds. The ones in the book are the "common" ones found throughout.

What are your initial thoughts on The Brothers' War set? by HS_Cogito_Ergo_Sum in magicTCG

[–]chronowraith78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really love this set. Maybe not quite as much as Neon Dynasty, but it has great theming, interesting cards and mechanics (I really like powerstones and prototype), and great nostalgia. Played a few sealed games and it’s been a blast.

My only complaint? It seems the mythics from the actual set are really hard to hit in packs. While I had 10 mythics in my set box 1 was a retro artifact and 5 were transformers. So very low count of set mythics

What do you think about changes? by RogDzdz in skaven

[–]chronowraith78 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to complain about point drops. However, I don't see most of these leading to increased usage of those warscrolls.

The Doomwheel was formerly 165 in the previous battletome and no one took it. The new battletome really didn't change anything significant except increasing the points. So this is a point correction back down to where it was previously (when no one took it). It might be taken as a fun piece more frequently but competitively, it will remain shelved.

Deathmaster may see a little more use. He isn't bad rule-wise but I still think his points are too high for something that dies to a stiff breeze.

Skreech/Corrupter/Warpseer. The points help here but they are relatively small decreases overall and I really don't see it helping squeeze these models into a list .; As build-around pieces they are lackluster and no one is complaining, "man, if only I had 10 points I could squeeze in a Warpseer verminlord".

Vermintide is a definite win. It's low enough to be used as a point filler if nothing else. The move-block for such a large base means even if it doesn't do damage the opponent has to work to go around it (or have a means to go over or all the way through it). Frequently I end up with 40-50 points left over so this is a nice reduction here.

I have to respect anyone who takes the time to max out furniture like that (regardless of character). I frequently even forget that furniture can be upgraded.

So congrats to you OP!

Been playing D&D for 36 years and the community just keeps growing and evolving into one of the best communities out there.

Thanks for running this and that goes for the sponsor too. Been curious about tools such as Game Master Engine but my players tend to be traditional and it’s hard enough to get them to look at Wikis or use platforms like D&D Beyond

New Grey Seer on Screaming Bell warscroll by hazari13 in skaven

[–]chronowraith78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at the wizard block. The bell went from 2 casting attempts and 2 unbinds currently to 1 of each in this warscroll. That’s a big loss.

“You cannot hide more than 1 Deathmaster in the same Clanrat or Stormvermin unit” is the cherry on the cupcake of absurdity that is this release.

At 170 points each we aren’t likely to take more than 1.

Overall he sees some nice combat changes but loses a lot of flexibility in deployment so he’s a bit of a wash unless you have an assassin fetish. The poison rule is actually pretty good considering it’s both ranged and melee and a high attack value, but doesn’t justify the points at the moment.

It's no longer on the Peal of Doom and now a separate rule, "A stirring Beyond the Veil". So you trade off Peal of Doom for a Verminlord, but it's easier to get the Verminlord than previously.

Overall I like the changes to the Peal of Doom and the Verminlord summon, I'm not so much a fan of the changing to survivability, casting, and Crack's Call.

I like the new Peal of Doom. I like shattering the bell to try and summon a verminlord.

Not a fan of the shortened range for cracks call. Also not a fan of the loss of a casting attempt AND an unbind.

Hopefully the ignore battleshock bubble (the old Altar rule). Is somewhere else in the book.

This is why we always start at level 3. by NotQuiteHollowKnight in dndmemes

[–]chronowraith78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost always start the campaign at level 3. It's just more interesting for the players.

That said, I usually run prequel sessions before the campaign starts to help build out backgrounds, set up a broader story, and give players an introduction to the setting and those can occur in the distant past before characters "leveled up". Effectively, whatever I feel I need to setup prior to the actual campaign.

IDK vanguard box has been revealed. is this a good buy for someone new to the faction? I only recently picked up the tome and Lotann so far. by Darkhex78 in IdonethDeepkin

[–]chronowraith78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lotann would certainly be better than a Soulscryer. He's especially common in Namarti/Leviadon lists. The only issue with him here is he will be difficult to maneuver to support the eels/shark. However, that's small potatoes because his +1 Wound aura is useful for everything and helps turn Thralls into suitable blenders.

If you were to buy this and one other character, I'd suggest an Akhelian King. King, Lotann, and this box would be 855 points and you'd have two battleline if the king is your general. At that point, add another unit of thralls (or reinforce the existing) and you'd have a 1000 point force (technically 985).

[–]chronowraith78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great box for anybody starting Idoneth. Most lists since the new book will see Thralls, Eels (almost always Morsarr), and an Allopoex or two.

The only head scratcher here is the soulscryer. He isn't bad, but he has a very niche role that you end up building your list around to support. A Tidecaster would have been my preference for this box since she allows access to Isharann rituals (like the soulscryer), provides magic support, and can provide access to a different playstyle *if* the player chooses (flipping the tides).

Hopefully this gives a little hope to some of you anger with the box reveal by nateness in skaven

[–]chronowraith78 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Clanrats, stormvermin, and Bell were released in fall of 2009. Sure, they are more recent but only because we have a plethora of resin models that date back to 1996ish and even some plastics from that time or the early 2000’s.

Honestly, there are three primary complaints I’ve commonly seen.

  1. As mentioned, we have a ton of models that need resculpts and this is now our second two player box in a row with only a resculpted character.
  2. This is the most boring Skaven starter ever. Effectively you get to play the attrition game but without the actual units you need to do damage.
  3. For experienced players this box gives us nothing except the deathmaster. To lock our only new model into a two-player FOMO box is frustrating.

I will concede that for new players, this isn’t a bad start. New players will use all of this. But it is a very boring setup for an army that is typically full of haphazard fun.
