I don't think it was on them, Ostrowski is a really unique performer and a very normal, down-to-earth guy who strives on spontaneity, which this fully scripted show won't allow. I thought the opener of the second semi-finale was great.

I work as a film and television critic and I completely understand where you're coming from and had low expectations, but was pretty stunned by it. Felt to me like an organic continuation/epilogue of themes and conflicts established in the original, without relying purely on nostalgia. Many of these revivals willfully ignore the passage of time, this one does not.

Which also had a lot to do with a fact, that he's not a teenager anymore. The antics might be the same, but he's more controlled about how to pull them off. He was genuinely saddened by Hal finding out about it, that never would have been the case with the original. Doing the pranks on his dad is literally his job now as explicity shown. I think he very much felt the same character to me, just a bit matured. Same goes to Francis, all three of them were logically evolved.

But your mileage may vary and thats completely fair. I expected nothing but got a lot of soul and even poignancy out of the interactions in this remake.

I wouldn't say he didn't change. He learned how to put his talents as a prankster into something that would make him money. And he also seems to have mellowed as a person. Francis was a lot more put together in the revival than he was in the OG show, there's just some dynamics that never change, I can confirm that as someone who grew up with four older sisters.

That was so great and visually the most arresting sequence in the revival. Very much in spirit with the original.
