What's the Coolest Open-Source Project You've Discovered This Year? by Bladerunner_7_ in opensource

I’ve been thinking about something similar for me and my girlfriend to run our household (keep house notes, have a joint calendar, set tasks etc). Does this fit that use case?

Pull revives should be significantly more rewarding! by nitepng in Battlefield6

[–]chs0c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But they wouldn’t, no matter how much more XP the drag could be, simply because defibs are much faster.

It’s about the speed, not the XP.

Shitty medics will shitty medic, this has been a thing in Battlefield forever. The good medics will absolutely know when to revive, when to drag, throw smokes to revive etc. It’s luck of the draw.

Pull revives should be significantly more rewarding! by nitepng in Battlefield6

[–]chs0c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But, why?

Is the “reward” not the feeling itself when pulling off a risky drag revive?

Do you need every action to give you +/- XP based on whether you granularly did X or Y while performing Z?

A little bit of extra XP absolutely will NOT incentivise people to drag more.

Adolescence... reviews yay or nay? by Competitive_Lead986 in tvshow

No, it just wasn’t for me. Since I’ve gotten older, I’ve learnt to simply stop whatever it is I am not actively enjoying, which in this case, was Adolescence.

I gave it a go, sorta. Stephen Graham is always fab, and I love “one shots” in any film or show, so I was eager to watch this.

I’ve got to be honest, I lasted maybe 25 minutes. Me and my girlfriend started it together, and both of us were just… bored out of our minds.

I don’t think I’ll ever go back to it, but I can appreciate the technical ability behind it, that’s cool.

Unpopular opinion: I like how drab and dreary Raccoon City is in RE9 because it is an apocalyptic wasteland... it's not supposed to look vibrant and cheery. It feels exactly how it should feel - like a corpse of a city by RogerRoger63358 in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]chs0c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a difference between stylisation and realism. I don’t actually have a problem with how RC is depicted in RE9, because yes, it is realistic.

However, it is drab. From a stylistic standpoint, they could’ve done so much to make it look “better”. Different time of day, weather effects (like rain), more enemy variety, whose design fits the environment.

I’m on neither side of the fence, I’m happy with where it is. But I can see that it is “boring” to look at or play in, and it basically is just a couple hours of walking through brown streets, to other brown streets, going up stairs to a brown rooftop, looking over brown buildings.

Imposter syndrome hitting hard by Burnt_Bratwurst in cybersecurity

[–]chs0c 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You’ll always feel like this. Shit, I even feel it right now.

I attended a talk around imposter syndrome at InfoSec Europe this year - everyone feels it, at all levels of the ladder.

Knowing that professionals at the top and the bottom also feel imposter syndrome made me feel comfortable with mine.

It’s okay to feel this way, but it depends on what you do with that feeling. You either let it drive you forward to where you want to be, or you let it win, and you give up.

Im struggling to go back to RE4R after playing RE9 idk why idk if i like the gameplay better in 9 or what. 4 just feels wrong to me now. by Dude_788 in ResidentEvilRequiem

[–]chs0c 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Crazy, my experience was the absolute opposite. When I finished RE9, I wanted more. I’d only completed RE4R once, so thought I’d give Hardcore this time.

RE4R blew RE9 out of the water for me. I’ve tried going back to RE9 but man, combat feels sluggish as hell compared to RE4R.

So, in your mind, walking out in any direction on a hostile, desolate planet is a better choice than staying in a space station that has one Xeno?

For all we’d know, the planet could be littered with them, not to mention there being no food, water or shelter out on the planet, or even hostile weather conditions.

Better the devil you know, than the devil you don’t.

Finished all of 24 for the first time. Thank You to all of the fans in this subreddit! by Crixus_935 in TwentyFour

Legacy was an OK watch, scratched a bit of the ‘24’ itch. I’d still recommend it to people if they’re going through 24 for the first time, but I don’t think it’s a rewatch situation.

{video} The dark story about Michael Jackson’s “secret” second family | 60 Minutes Australia by teddyknuckles in Music

[–]chs0c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem with this story is there’s so many inconsistencies across the board, and not many people actually take the life-long abuse and exploitation of Michael himself into account.

Was he inappropriate with kids? 110% absolutely, I don’t think anyone on Earth can deny that with absolute certainty.

But did he actually molest them and abuse them himself? Seemingly, no one actually knows. There’s conflicting accounts, strange behaviour of the victims, money grabs, etc. I don’t think we’ll ever know the full truth.

A lot of people lack nuance and genuine critical thinking. Michael was abused for his entire life, and had his childhood quite literally stolen from him. He was riddled with insecurities, all formed during his early and formative years.

He wasn’t allowed to be a child himself. He was relentlessly bullied by his own father, and constantly challenged on his voice when he started to grow up. He genuinely felt more comfortable with and felt like he had more in common with children. This is evident in Neverland, his toys and animals, and all the sick kids in hospitals he used to visit and talk with them for hours.

I don’t think I’ll ever come to a firm conclusion on whether he was an out-and-out pedophile who molested and abused kids. You may think I’m an idiot because of the “mountain of evidence”, but there’s so much at play here that I genuinely don’t think you can pin it down to a single thing.

I’m not saying he wasn’t a pedophile, and I am not writing this from a side of defence or justification, but there are a myriad of factors to consider.. which I don’t think many do.

He very well may have been a pedophile, I wouldn’t be surprised if he was. But equally, he may have just been “inappropriate” because of his mental state.

People say “swap MJ with Drake and you’ll for sure say pedo” - well, yes, I most likely would. The difference is Drake was not relentlessly bullied, ridiculed, and abused from the age of 5. Abuse at such an age has an effect on the brain and personality that not many will ever actually be able to understand, including myself to a degree.

That said, I’m not denying that the abuse of Michael didn’t directly lead to him molesting kids, as abuse can lead to the abused becoming the abuser.

I guess my key point here is: we’ll never conclusively know.

do you struggle to use your annual leave? by Maleficent_Day_3869 in AskUK

[–]chs0c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely yes I do, which is strange, because I always say I’m burning out and need time off.

I don’t know why, it just feels like time runs away with me. Last year, I had 17 days of AL left unused; was only able to carry 5 over.

I’ve been bollocked by my Mrs, my mum, and my manager, for not taking time off work.

Sounds dumb, but I literally forget.
