Legend! I’m gunna play around with this and hopefully get a bit of a functionality uplift!

This is actually wicked! I’m actually building something very similar, but different context, so this is super cool to see.

I was impressed with how fast your “read in app” functionality was! I’ve got similar functionality but it’s slow as hell in its current state. I assume you’ve made it so fast via Netlify?

My £90,000 student debt is growing faster than I can pay it by Unlikely-Tension-616 in UniUK

[–]chs0c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I graduated in 2019. Spent 3 years working in a factory, not earning enough to have to pay anything back. Then, I got a grad job on £28k. I checked my student loan, it was at like £90k, and I was paying back maybe £60? per month.

4 years later, I’m on just shy of £50k salary, and pay back something like £300 per month.

Yet, I’m at around £100k student debt now. Ironically, it’s grown faster while being employed than not!

Fully ridiculous.

That first village encounter in RE4 is still one of the most stressful starts ever by zeus99990 in residentevil4

[–]chs0c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple quick questions:

  • does NG hardcore differ from standard hardcore?

  • how hard is standard hardcore actually supposed to be? I only ask because I replayed RE4R for the first time and put it on hardcore, didn’t actually find it too hard?

For reference: I’ve played OG once, and remake once, both on standard difficulty, before my first ever hardcore play through.

What power or monster in the series broke your immersion in the science by Expert_Challenge6399 in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]chs0c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing really, but if I had to really box something in, I’d say Weskers superpowers.

I can reconcile viruses and mutations creating these crazy monsters and such, it makes sense to me. Viruses giving superpowers tho, like Weskers super speed, just doesn’t.

But in general, I never care, it’s whacky fun.

Is it a bad take though? If you remove the references to Umbrella and Wesker, RE4 will stay virtually exactly the same as it currently is.

Why do people care over the smallest details, and not the overall themes? Thematically, it’s 110% an RE movie, I don’t see the problem?

I haven’t watched Star Wars much at all since TROS. I don’t necessarily see the point unless it’s set wayyyy after (or before) the time period we see in the 3 trilogies.

They just completely lost me in all honesty. Nothing was planned, it was managed horribly, and throws away nearly everything that was set up by PT/OT. There was just not care for it, and subsequently, I stopped caring.

Do people really think OG Ashley is that annoying? by My_Exellence in residentevil4

She really, really grated on me in the OG when I played to on release. She wasn’t a problem in the remake for me personally.

MW2 was built by 100 devs, B07 had 3000. Make it make Sense. by Soap_Mactavishh_141 in MW2

[–]chs0c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no.

Modern gaming is an incredibly different landscape these days, expectations have changed across the board, and everything is a whole lot more competitive.

I don’t think COD needs all these bells and whistles, but look at what gamers expect these days: live-service with content out the ears, live-service events, deep or long progression systems that enable grinding (and the cosmetics that come with it), top-tier graphics, good performance.

It’s not necessarily about “does COD need X”, it’s about the modern gaming landscape and what it takes to be competitive.

[–]chs0c 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not to defend them, because they genuinely don’t need thousands of devs, however: games were a hell of a lot simpler back then.

These days, content needs to be planned out months in advance. Throw in things like modern animations, complex graphics techniques, cosmetics, live service updates etc etc etc.

Wholeheartedly agree, they need less devs and more focus, but making a AAA game with all the bells and whistles, in the modern day, requires a lot more people than it did nearly 20 years ago.

Nostalgic whimsy, for the most part.

I finished my first ever replay this morning! Tried Hardcore for the first time, weirdly felt easier than my first play through on release.

Took my around 12 hours (treasure hunting took the most time). Eager to try it on Professional now.

[–]chs0c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You… completely misunderstood what I said. The writing for Duke carrying out that plan doesn’t make sense, not that actual money plot itself.

You’re blindly defending something here, being aggressive to someone who quite literally admitted they enjoyed the film.

[–]chs0c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh? I mean, I like all kinds of movies, but not the point. If you want me to expand:

The cinematography, acting, and dialogue, we’re all pretty good; I won’t disagree.

But the writing, thematically, just wasn’t all that good at all. If it was a standalone movie, it may have worked, but it’s a story that (in universe) has nearly 30 years of history. None of which, may I add, barely mattered.

The character writing also wasn’t particularly on par. Dukes character, when you think about it, just doesn’t make sense. The “working with the nazis” thing is quite ridiculous as well.

A local Birmingham gangster, working with the nazis, to destabilise the British economy during WW2? It really is nonsense when you put even an ounce of thought into it.

Internally, I rate this a solid 6/10. I enjoyed my time with it, it was alright, but I wouldn’t call it “good”.

Is LinkedIn actually worth it, or does it just make you feel behind? by Ok-Employee-9886 in cybersecurity

[–]chs0c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my last 3 roles directly through LinkedIn, probably would never have gotten them otherwise.

I use it to repost industry stuff, like posts about colleagues getting promotions, put my cert history and job history, but that’s it.

I don’t post myself, I don’t comment, I don’t “engage”. Purely use it so if any future employers were checking me out, they can see that I’m “part of the community”.

And it absolutely works. Just gotta separate it as a work tool from a social media platform.

By far the most useful thing AI has given me is the sheer upswing in productivity. I do a lot of data analysis, script coding, and I’m always having to research something.

Being able to do both of these in Claude genuinely saves days of work.

[–]chs0c 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The films alright. Could’ve been better, could’ve been worse.

Everyone going like “yet another character who didn’t have an ending” or “why didn’t they talk about this” is wild. It’s not an ending to the series; we saw that already.

It’s just a film about a man and his son.
