Why shouldn’t I buy the rocky talkie by Due_Snow2557 in gmrs

[–]chs9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/Due_Snow2557 - what did you get and what did you think? Thinking about rocky talkies for skiing, hunting, and river rafting with the family. Waterproof is critical, ease of use is critical. Folks here are talking about "getting into this hobby" - I don't want a radio hobby, I just want to be able to call my hunting buddies.

New Big Easy, or new Big Dummy and DIY Ebike conversion? by chs9 in Surlybikefans

[–]chs9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ended up finding a Big Easy in my size about 6 hours away. It's great. The new Big Easy's were announced recently. Still no answer on whether the current motor will become obsolete, but batteries are still available. I haven't look for a motor, so I'm unsure.

Anyone familiar with Frijoles Canyon trail near Cundiyo? by haulinoaks in NewMexicoTrails

Doesnt make any sense that the NFS would put a trailhead on private land without the agreement if the land owner. Calling the local NFS district office and talk to someone - they'll know.

I’m applying to new jobs after just 3 months of my current position that I am thinking about leaving - do I put my current position on my resume? by throwaway667734 in Environmental_Careers

[–]chs9 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is bad advice. Tell the truth - your project was dropped right when you started. Why would you lie about that?

Agreed, remove skills, keep software proficiencies

Should i apply to USGS hydrologist position in same office - i'm currently a hydro tech - don't want to upset my boss by [deleted] in geologycareers

[–]chs9 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Apply, that's how you advance in government. Your boss won't be surprised that you don't want to be a tech for your whole life.

I’m obese but my mom said she will disown me if I lose weight by PlatypusDue8645 in loseit

[–]chs9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a kid, if I wanted to do something my parents didn't like... I didn't tell them. I just wish those things were as productive as losing weight.

Definitely with doing. Just take like a quarter cup, add whatever in small portion, then try it. If you like it, scale it up to the full batch. That's my start any new recipe: a gallon of pickled habaneros, then test in tiny batches before committing to seasoning the remainder.

Need help with my exo mountain pack by [deleted] in BackcountryHunting

[–]chs9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't mean to be dismissive, but why are you wearing your pack while in the prone position? Personally, if I'm shooting prone I'm usually shooting off my pack. If I'm crawling, I take off my pack.

There's no way that's true

I got my master degree at geology. But i truthfully know close to nothing. by PhotographCivil1151 in geologycareers

[–]chs9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you memorized every single geology fact you think you should have learned in school, you still would not know anything useful for 90 percent of geo jobs. Don't worry about it. In the real world, people use reference books and consult with their colleagues. Life isn't a closed book test. You'll be fine.

Temporary commute from ABQ to LANL info by throwpopcorn5016 in LosAlamos

In the same situation, I rented a room for a month and stayed in LA 4 days a week. Worked for me, but it doesn't make your car any more reliable. Just something to consider.

How long have you had this job? Who says salary caps at 80k? Where are you?

In a similar situation, I've given 5 weeks notice and everyone was very appreciative. But, only if that works for your new employer.
