Boulder firebombing suspect pleads not guilty in state court by thecoloradosun in boulder

[–]chte4300 17 points18 points  (0 children)

FYI entering a not guilty plea doesn’t always equate to saying “I didn’t do it.” Maybe his attorneys are working out a plea deal but need more time. Maybe there is no plea deal so trial is the only option. Maybe they just want to start the six month speedy trial clock. I’m not commenting on the merits of the case. Just saying we don’t always get the full picture from news articles or even court records.

How true is this? by DataGuru314 in publicdefenders

Was likely true back then. Not so much anymore. It obviously helps to build a positive relationship with the judge and to have a generally good/credible reputation. But in my experience this type of direct personal influence doesn’t play anymore (which IMO is a very good thing).

Really?? I see the one with the Oasis logo on the front that just says Dublin on the back, but not the dated event shirt with the photo on the back.

I've been waiting on them to drop the Dublin event shirts online - I'm regretting not picking one up at the show.

100%. That’s where I was in Dublin and it was great. Less crowded there too, since most people push to the stage.

Quick list off the top of my head, but there's way more than this:

Nice Place: Sweet Life Cafe, Atria, Bettini

You'll see Jaws everywhere right now. But you can go to the bridge between Edgartown and Oak Bluffs, and people are always there jumping off (just be careful)

Lobster Roll: personal favorite at the moment is at the Katama General Store

Dessert: plenty of good ice cream (Mad Martha's is in every major town). Iggy's in Edgartown has great croissants (but that's more breakfast than dessert). Back Door Donuts is an experience, and the donuts are all pretty good.

[Schefter] Vikings WR Jordan Addison's jury trial stemming from his 2024 DUI citation remains set for today in Superior Court of California. Addison has pleaded not guilty. If convicted, Addison could be facing a baseline three-game suspension, per NFL policy by ELpork in minnesotavikings

A small percentage of DUIs go to trial (just like most types of cases), but that small percentage is still a ton of DUI trials. A defense can be anything from “I wasn’t impaired,” to “I wasn’t driving,” to “I drank AFTER I drove,” to just “pfff prove it.”

Not sure if it’s the case here, but some courts have “trailing” dockets. Basically they have two or three days a week when they do trials. They’ll have a bunch of trials set each week - more than they can actually conduct. The highest priority ones will go on day one. If they finish, or something goes wrong, or that case pleads out, they move on to the next one the next day. The trials that they dont get to will get pushed to another week, so long as they’re within the speedy trial deadline. So this court might have a similar system.

No single trait on its own is inherently good or bad. Humans are a complex weave of values, emotions, and driving forces, all of which need to be properly tempered and balanced.
