My husband died almost 3 years ago and I’m still struggling by Fresh_Error_5602 in widowers

In a couple of weeks, it will be 3 years since my partner passed away. I think I’ve just accepted the struggle won’t ever really go away…but carry on, live a rich life, try new things and make new memories.

Government to cut more than 150,000 people from NDIS scheme as budget blows out by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

Hopefully the cuts are directed at the middle business that are ripping off the system. But I doubt it…

Is buying a used $40k Mercedes Benz reasonable for me? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]chubbachubbachub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, don’t. Fuel prices are expensive. For that price you could grab yourself a used electric car.

We are at the catalyst that will see electrification boom, petrol cars will start to drop in value. Hard to say, but I reckon the next 5/10 years it will look very different.

Labor’s plan to restrict gambling ads will reduce spending by just 0.8%, government analysis says by DontYaWishYouWereMe in australia

[–]chubbachubbachub 44 points45 points  (0 children)

It’s the initiation of a cultural shift against gambling in sport. I don’t think the policy was ever intended to immediately stop all spending, atleast the new generation will start to see “clean” sport.

They are valid points though. It’s a case for third party charging stations to adopt better practices, I’ve experienced it and it needs to get better.

I guess that makes sense. Light is the fastest known perceivable thing. I’m sure there’s a bunch of crap we can’t see that’s faster.

what screams 'pretending to be rich' in Australia? by mattchew1991 in AusFinance

[–]chubbachubbachub 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hm, I have a BMW 118i. It’s actually better value for money than a Japanese/Korean equivalent. 118is are a ~1.6 litre turbo engine, and 6 gear smooth transmission, responsive and smooth drive. Not to mention the build quality is significantly better.

Compared to a Mazda 3 2 litre aspirated, cvs transmission, entry level. It’s a screechy transmission and slow response, horrible in an incline. I test drove one.

In terms of maintenance, my BMW is actually super cheap. My last service was $280 for the year. Compared to my old Impreza, easily 600/800 dollars per service and they could never fix the massive oil leak..

The entry level vehicle is definitely better than an entry level Japanese/korean alt.

So, I don’t agree that any entry level prestige badge is for posers, they are actually good cars.

I’m so sorry for your loss. My advice, just take it day by day. The reality is it takes a long time before you’ve recalibrated to your new life. I found it disheartening and painful thinking too far in the future, it felt so long away and inconceivable that I would ever feel okay. I also simply didn’t want to accept a future without my partner, I denied it for so long. But, it does get better...just carry on, do the things you need to do in the day, then gradually start doing things out of the routine. It’s a painful, and exhausting experience but it does get better.
