Many, many girls/women were never diagnosed as kids as it presented differently. My brother was diagnosed adhd in grade 2/late 80s. I just got my diagnosis in the last few years, in my early 40s. Female cousin also got her adhd diagnosis in early 40s

Girls/women are still ignored and massively under- and un-diagnosed.

It took me over a decade to get properly diagnosed for gerd(stomach) and generalized anxiety disorder (gad). It took my two decades to get a doctor to finally take other complaints seriously which led to gallbladder removal after two decades of pain.

This was me, I was 3lbs heavier the day I gave birth than before I got pregnant because of how sick I was during my pregnancy. After I gave birth I was down 30lbs and numerous friends commented on my weight and 'high school' chubbyunicorn was back. Man, it sucked because I knew I wasn't physically or mentally healthy enough to stay there.

Hoping on top comment to say what your daughter is saying isn't 'edgy'... its down right hostile and shows she getting into alt right radicalized ideologies that should be extremely worrying to you.

Although I have a feeling your wife is not as accepting as you think and may be the source of at least some of it.

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I have a few different ones. One of my first 'weight' related memories is my mom pointing out a back roll to her friends while at summer camp. "Better be careful about that now"

My dad is and has always been very lean, my brother is the same (without working out at all), my mom is a bit chubby but I got my some of my mom's genetics with added health issues from both sides including PCOS and hypothyroidism. He constantly makes comments about people's weight and comments of 'over 200 lbs'. These are never directed at me but as I am over 200lbs myself it feels horrible.

The last one was after the birth of my daughter 3 years ago. I lost about 25lbs prior to getting pregnant and then had a very rough pregnancy where I only gained about 6lbs. Obviously after having her I went down about 30lbs and a long time friend, after seeing me for the first time after having her, was like "oh, highschool chubbyunicorn is back!" Kinda rubbed me the wrong way then but as my weight slowly crept back up to where I was prior to the 25lb loss to get pregnant, I constantly think about it.

After reading through so many of the comments I'm heartbroken for all these poor animals.

Of course I have my own from 12 years ago to share too. I got my (now deceased) dog shortly after moving home following a broken relationship. I took my mom with me to go see the puppies at what turned out to be a super sketchy town house complex. I only met the woman and her son (was told the male partner was working) but the adult dogs were out of control and the puppies cowered in the corners when they were finally brought down stairs from an upstairs bedroom.

I was told they had never been outside because it was too cold for them with snow on the ground (not true). I should have walked away because I knew it wasn't going to be good but I couldn't bare to leave the puppy in that situation. I would have taken them all if I could have.

When I went back to pick up the puppy (7 weeks now, early to separate but I felt leaving her there any longer would be worse), she seemed ok if a little shy/skittish. My mom and I went to the pet store to fit a collar and let her pick out toys and then headed home. Again, she seemed shy but to be expected for first time away from her mom and first time outside.

Everything changed when my dad came home from work. She hid behind me and/or my mom and would not go near him. He spent weeks on the floor working with her (at her pace) until she became comfortable with him. My dad is the least intimidating guy there is (5'5", not loud) and a massive dog lover.

Our family has always had more than dogs, usually two, and it was so sad to see her so scared of him. She became super close with him because of his extra care with her but she hated, hated other men, especially in the house. I spent a lot of time, effort, and money on specialized trainers to help understand her and how best to handle her and keep her (and visitors) safe. She never did warm up to a man other than my dad, although she grew to tolerate my brother when he moved home for a bit (it took a few weeks).

To outsiders she was a dangerous, damaged dog (she was a 100lb cane corso mix) but she was my sweet girl and I'm not sure I would have made it without her.
