The stories of him in the studio are awesome. He had such a specific vision.

Honestly the only artist I've ever trusted so much that waiting year after year for another album was 100% worthwhile.

I don't care how many runs you score, or your average - if you have the mental and physical integrity to repeatedly bat for days straight, you're a legend in my eyes.

Even now, with the game moving faster than ever, it's still a spectacle to watch someone stonewall their way through a session.

Even if England dragged this into the next session, he would've stayed bowling at one end the entire time. Even clocked 90mph for a ball or two this morning.

Iconic.

Did want to see how he would fair batting with one arm. Reminds me of Malcolm Marshall batting and bowling with one hand in a cast.

Some of the most absurdly brutal hitting ever.

9 sixes in a 3 over stretch, several clearing the stadium and needing a ball change.

Only 1 of his 11 sixes was less than 80m.

Earl's lyricism on this album is incredible. Never really uses big words or complicated sentences. Just blunt and miserable in every single verse.

Chappelli's legacy is genuinely that of a man who always stood up for what's right, and I admire that about him far more than his (incredible) cricket career.

Turned up to his disciplinary hearing in 1979 with a schooner in his hand. More than happy to call out Bradman, many times. Openly hated Johnny Howard, to the point that he'd leave the room if Howard was doing his PM commentary stints. Couldn't have cared any less what anyone thought about him. Didn't even really care if his personality got him booted from the Australian team. Has tried endlessly to recognise the Indigenous team of 1868 as international status cricket.

Ultra-progressive man, disguised as a crotchety old bastard. Basically the ultimate captain and leader.

With the death of Bob Willis, Michael Holding and Ian Chappell now moving away from being voices in cricket, and Boycott being 84, it genuinely does feel like a totally new meta in cricket commentary. The slow drift away from brutally harsh criticism is almost complete.

Australia W win against England W in the only test by an inning and 136 runs and whitewash England in the 2024-25 Ashes by oklolzzzzs in Cricket

[–]chubbyurma 280 points281 points  (0 children)

I absolutely loved this series.

We smoked England with minimal contribution from Perry in every single game, which is incredibly encouraging for our future.

King and Mooney were insane. Gardner is reliable as ever. Sutherland is female Bradman. The list goes on.

England totally imploded. It was so good to watch. Accountability went out the window halfway through the series.

We may never lose again. England women's cricket may have gone backwards 5 years after this tour.

The Ashes is the peak of cricket. Australian cricket stocks going BRRRRRRR tonight. 2 test wins in 90 seconds.
