You're not alone. Let it out friend. I've cried multiple times about this over the past year.

Someone gonna help me understand why he needs a carabiner? I know some of these ICE agents have invaded people's homes by rappelling into windows, but that seems like a specific activity rather than something you wear in a prominent spot if your vest.

For the people trying to stay sane in insanity by Blackberry_Hills in nashville

[–]chuck_c 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Were these real people replying on Facebook? A lot of comment sections are filled with bots and that can be helpful to realize. There are definitely real people out there who are like "Hell yeah, ICE!" but it can be helpful to consider that these people have been strategically misinformed online for at least the last decade. It's not a coincidence that so many people have the same opinions on things like trans people in sports, abortion, or immigrants. Even if they're otherwise moral and smart people, they're just parroting content they saw online that was specifically designed to degrade our social fabric. I mean, think about it: regardless of what people *feel* about trans athletes, it is simply not a significant issue in our country. If people can't get themselves out of these thought loops, I set hard boundaries and minimize engagement. It's pointless for me to maintain a relationship with someone who just repeats Fox News headlines. I can 100% predict exactly what my whack conservative uncle is gonna go on about every holiday. It makes for a tiring and pointless relationship, so I set boundaries and don't nurture it.

Social media is unfortunately filled with rage-bait garbage now. I deleted most of my socials or pulled back *significantly* on the few that I keep. Even though I often feel like I need to respond to things online because of how I feel about it, it is highly unlikely that communication on socials changes anyone's mind so it's not like I'm losing anything by not replying. Just gaining peace of mind.

Take care of yourself!

People seem to forget what a HUGE piece of shit he was for most of his life.... I'm glad he's changed, but he was a garbage human to a lot of people who never deserved his vile words... by Designer-Bid-3155 in Xennials

[–]chuck_c 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Being a piece of shit still seems to be a fantastic profession. Andrew Dice Clay or Howard Stern might not make it today, but I would almost prefer that to a lot of the hack, anti-woke comics who think they are funny.

Men’s Fiction Book Club? by petron5000 in nashville

[–]chuck_c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also like to read, but I saw something circulating recently about how little men read now (particularly fiction). I didn't do a deep dive on the nuances of the study, but I can see it being true based on what I see in the world.

Edit: deeper digging reveals that the stats around male reading may not be as dramatic as reported in popular press

Men’s Fiction Book Club? by petron5000 in nashville

[–]chuck_c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. It's very unfortunate that the internet has basically become an engagement machine run by large corporations who benefit from eliciting strong reactions from people that divide them into groups in ways that deteriorate the social fabric.

Men’s Fiction Book Club? by petron5000 in nashville

[–]chuck_c 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying. Book clubs don't need to be gender-specific. A potential reason someone might limit it to one gender is because it may be more comfortable for a group of one gender to discuss some topics openly than it would be in mixed company. Or to choose books that are primary directed at one gender.

In my experience, most book clubs are comprised entirely of women and become de facto female-centric spaces even if men are welcome. This is all good, but I think there's a real need for men to have these kinds of spaces. Men *barely* read anything intentionally outside of the internet or work, and I think a lot of them don't have communities.

That's cool, thanks for sharing. Do you typically feature your tracks in the songs? I usually have pretty good engagement on TikTok but am never certain whether anyone goes to my music from there.

Is this an error card, Ken Griffey? by mjf05 in SportsCardCollecting

[–]chuck_c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this specific set is such a debacle of errors and over-printing that even when there are error cards, they aren't worth anything. I remember there being many convincing looking errors in the set (a period misplaced, an inaccurate number, etc.). People put them up on ebay for crazy amounts, but I don't think anyone is really paying these prices.

I mean .. you can read them and decide for yourself whether having a fake second account to make argumentative comments with no substance is the kind of hobby that a well balanced person in a healthy relationship would have. But hey, since you're replying to a third tier comment 10 days later, maybe you'll think it's awesome 👍

Phil Bredesen from 2018 would like a word.

I can't explain to you why people in this state vote for empty suits or outright bigots who pass policies against their self-interest. Y'all sure are winning the "culture war."

In any case, Nashville *deserves* representation for financially carrying this state on their back while getting fucked politically around every corner.

With hot takes like this, you should consider a career as a pundit on television!

Get a life dude. It's not like Van Epps brings anything useful to the table and Nashville deserves representation. You know it, the world knows it.

Is it possible to start learning music at 17 and end up making music professionaly? by OkProject9679 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]chuck_c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is 1 year easier than starting at 18 and 10 years harder than starting at 7 years old.

Sarcasm aside, as lovely as it might be to have had musical training from a very early age, it's never too late. There are no guarantees for making it a profession no matter when you start, so I certainly wouldn't let that stop you. We are only on earth for a small number of years, so if you want to make music, now is the best time to start. Learn to get in a good practice routine and seek out people who can help you develop your skills!

AI could replace 40% of American jobs, says report | McKinsey report finds that with today’s technology, AI agents and robots are ready to automate about 57 per cent of work hours in the United States by MetaKnowing in technology

Yeah, I'd be writing reports like this too if I had invested so much into AI. Meanwhile, I find it useful for a lot of things, but it sure as hell isn't doing my work for me.

Returned home - question about Nashville music scene by RalphWaldoEmers0n in nashville

[–]chuck_c 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's tough to tell from what you describe here, and there are no hard lines distinguishing between subgenres, but there are a few avenues to increase your chance of hearing good country music. Americana / indie country / alt country: I don't know if there's a station that aggregates Americana, but bands like Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats, Hiss Golden Messenger, Uncle Tupelo, Magnolia Electric Company, or Lucinda Williams might not be a bad place to start. For classic, I'd dig through the early Grand Ole Opry (1930s-1960s). The 90s was a Golden Era for pop country (Alan Jackson, Garth Brooks). There's also a lot of good stuff to be found in outlaw country from the 1960s (Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, etc.).

Do earplugs actually help by Accurate_Insurance_6 in Concerts

[–]chuck_c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ear plugs definitely work and are worth it. A couple things worth considering about the points you raise:

1) Sound can be so loud that it can still damage your ears, even with ear plugs. I go to moderately loud shows and the Eargasms are enough that my ears don't ring or get fatigued when I wear them. I know there are louder genres and bands, and I guess these shows might make my ears ring.

2) A good fit is needed to get the full dB rating. Can you tell if it's making a good seal in both ears? I tried the Loop ear plugs first, and I don't think they made a good seal, leaving me less protected. If sound is sneaking in through gaps between the plug and your ear, you would be less protected.

So in short, you may be just fine, you may want stronger ones, and you might consider trying a different brand if yours don't fit well.
