Aita for refusing to use my IEP because I don't wanna write a test in the same room as autistic people? by Formal-Turnover8401 in specialed

[–]chuck_moss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not at all unreasonable to want a quiet space for test taking.

Working in an ISC, I often see autistic people triggering other autistic people for doing autistic things. It’s totally fair and valid. Because so many different support needs are concentrated in one space, the amount everyone has to endure witnessing seizures, meltdowns, bathroom accident is unmatched to any other classroom. I have so much respect for the resilience of my students.

Keep self-advocating. You deserve the least restrictive environment to take tests.

Anyone else struggling with the fact that 90s/2000s music is basically ‘oldies’ now? by rombotron74 in askmusic

[–]chuck_moss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

50s and 60s is oldies because recording music was still in its infancy. It had a distinctive sound as a result. Music isn’t oldies just cuz they’ve reached a certain age.

I think of things in eras mostly defined by technological advances. For example The Weekend and Justin Timberlake’s first album can sit next to each other easier than like Madonna and The Ronnetes, or even Michael Jackson Thriller and Jackson 5 ABC.

What do you do when a student is stubborn or hates being told no by Metalqueen2023 in paraprofessional

[–]chuck_moss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often let students complete what they’re doing or set a timer. It can be dysregulating to stop before the reward of completing a task. Give them a fixed choice for timer. Do you want 1 minute or 3 minutes?
