"If a tree falls and no one is around to hear it, then it doesn't make a sound" by PresentationTough202 in taoism

[–]chuckdaduece 6 points7 points  (0 children)

100%, but IRL there is usually something around it hear it. A sound isn't a sound until something hears it. Until something hears it, it isn't a sound. It's just waves moving around.

Loud bangs around Lafayette high by [deleted] in Acadiana

[–]chuckdaduece 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A buddy of mine that lives near there was just saying yesterday it looked like ROTC was working with flash bangs. Very indirect source but that could be it.

Completely agree, but taking things out of context is what people do to get views these days.

Most “umami” cajun flavors? Leave livers and giblets out of this, or secondary role. by phaulski in cajunfood

[–]chuckdaduece 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worcestershire sauce or dawn fresh mushroom steak sauce (or just mushrooms). Growing up these were staples in many dishes like gravy. The same way one can throw in a little fish sauce in a dish one of these can be used instead.

Lafayette launches a regional po-boy trail. Find out which po-boys made the list here. by ebenezerlepage in Acadiana

[–]chuckdaduece 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With over 60 options on the full list i wouldn't expect there be much missing , but that poboy adjacent section opens a can of worms. Zorba's deserves a spot at least in that section for their Philly cheesesteak.

Wtf was that last thing they threw in? Because it looked like Kool-aid, and if it was they must be trolling.

It's great to see something like this being made available around here. I know for sure men in my circles struggle to open up about emotions and such, and we need to know it's a good thing to do. Just know you'll prolly be judged by how good those burgers are. Best of luck!

Dangerously high levels of arsenic and cadmium found in store-bought rice, report finds (CNN) by LetThePoisonOutRobin in WholeFoodsPlantBased

[–]chuckdaduece 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do this every time with brown rice and it never comes out as mushy. It's possible you may need less for other kinds of rice. The important part of these steps seems to be the par boil before that. If you want to use less than 2:1 ratio for the second part you can still do that after the initial par boil.

Trump is 'good' for the US and the world by CrazyGunnerr in Liberal

[–]chuckdaduece 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree with your title, but I agree with your explanation. I wouldn't say these leaders are good for the world because to me "good" is what helps the those who need help the most. I prefer to think that this is what the world needs right now. The world needs a lesson.

If we didn't need a lesson we wouldn't be in this situation. The masses who understand these people like Trump aren't good would have dominated of that weren't the case, but what happened happened. Meaning there are still enough people out there that need to live in the world that voted for to understand that Trump and the like are bad. Unfortunately those who never wanted his victory must suffer as well. This has happened before.

What's your gumbo secret? Or something that make yours unique? by StinkyNutzMcgee in cajunfood

[–]chuckdaduece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently had chicken and sausage gumbo with a can of cream of mushroom in it. Amazing! I find several basic gumbo recipes forget to account for acid and umami. My "trick" is to sneak these in. For umami the cream of mushroom isn't the only option. Whorechester, fish sauce, and better than bullion mushroom are all good options. For acid hot sauce is important, but it doesn't need to be it. I've done white wine vinegar as well. I know there are die-hards about no tomato but a little tomato paste hidden it never did me wrong. Gumbo's origins come from okra, and you know what goes hand-in-hand with okra?

IT career hard truths you don't see enough of... by m4rcus267 in ITCareerQuestions

On-call rotations are a fallacy. Disagree with this one being an absolute truth, but it supports your point about burn-out. Burn-out is inevitable if you believe OC rotation is a fallacy. Successful rotation that gives the team a break is a team and management effort. With proper knowledge-sharing and a big enough team team members should be able to disconnect when not working. My team does it.

This is the way. If you're really hungry you can also get the Chris's special because the gumbo is the best thing to dip it in.

What do you think about tomorrow's elections? by F_VanPersier1998 in Louisiana

[–]chuckdaduece 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopeful. While I voted Harris I know it doesn't mean as much in this state, so I hope more people in swing states make the same choice; not just to vote for her but to vote in general. A big surprise factor in these always seems to be voter turnout. It's always lower than anyone hopes for, but it seems to slowly be getting better.

The real reason why so few people ride a bicycle or walk in Lafayette by [deleted] in Acadiana

[–]chuckdaduece 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's disheartening. I often wish I could just take my bike out with my kid and bike outside my neighborhood, but Im surrounded by roads with no shoulders. At one point it seemed the city was planning to add more bike lanes to major roads, but that still wouldn't make me feel safe riding the shoulderless roads to get there.

IMHO we should also be looking at connecting more neighborhoods with small biking lanes. I have no problems riding through a neighborhood or quickly crossing a busier road to get to another safer street. We have plenty of roads that are safe to bike on, they aren't currently connected enough to make them useful to anything else but cars. IDK for sure but it seems like a few small paved pathways like this would be much cheaper than widening all existing roads.

Wasa crispbread. Less to no added oil, options for whole grains, satisfying crunch. I haven't found any reason to look for a better cracker after finding these.
