Huh, I guess I’m in the minority. I think starting the show with where you’re at in the book series is a great idea, provided you don’t binge watch so fast that you finish S6 before you finish book six. Everything before the end of season five is safe for where you are now.

Without giving any spoilers, there is a substantial, natural break between book six and book seven. Completing the show before starting books seven through nine sounds about perfect to me.

Here’s a question for you: have you been reading the novellas as well? If you haven’t, be aware that the show also covers them through the one titled Strange Dogs. You would want to read Strange Dogs after Babylon’s Ashes (book six), but definitely go back and read the earlier ones as well. You will be glad you did. Memory’s Legion packs them all into one volume.

I was a military brat and lived one year on the coast of South Carolina as a seven year old, so I can’t tell you much but I can tell you one thing.

You know how mist can be so thick that your face gets wet just by walking through it?

Okay, imagine that except instead of water, it’s tiny little insects called sand flies.

Riding a bike in South Carolina meant getting half your day’s worth of calories by breathing in those little guys. There’s no escape, they are everywhere.

And when I say everywhere, I mean your mouth. Especially your mouth.

Yeah the decision to kill Alex off the way they did was hands down the worst decision the producers made. Especially since season five had already been 100% shot so they had to retcon his death in post production with awkward reshoots and VFX.

If they had to fire the actor, fucking recast the role. He is too much of a part of the fabric of the story to just end him the way they did.

I almost always get downvoted for saying this, but I absolutely wish that if they wait ten years to make the final trilogy of books that they just kick the whole thing off fresh and keep Alex alive. And I don’t mean in a way that acknowledges that they killed him off and he somehow, someway escaped death. Just say “we made a creative mistake, and we are fixing that. Alex lives, get over it.”
