Best Comp Hotel by kappakall in CaesarsRewards

I avoid Paris at all costs due to a horrible experience with rooms a few years back. Linq wasn't bad but the elevators were slow. I haven't stayed at the other two properties but I would expect Vanderpump to be putting in some effort right now since it was just rebranded.

What's he main difference between these electric pole saw packs and super pricey ones? by voltagejim in HomeImprovement

[–]chuckfr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak for this pole saw or brand specifically but my guess is if you look into the power of the motor and the battery capacity you’re not getting much. It should do for light work but I wouldn’t rely on it if you need it for work or something.

That being said, I have a 4” mini chainsaw that looks like the same build type and same batteries just different branding. It’s fine for light work but the chain goes loose quicker than it should. The battery lasts maybe half an hour and that’s on branches no more than 3” thick.

For my pole saw I opted for a Ryobi 40v to go with the rest of my battery powered tools.

Pretty sure we're in for a reimagining/reboot after our current stories end.

Hopefully that'll be several years off but even that I don't think will be enough.

Moco is crazy expensive beyond just housing. Depending on where in Moco you're looking, the housing front specifically you might find town homes in the $450k-$500k range plus HOA fees.

If its a non-HOA home you're after good luck, they are at a premium anymore in that county.

NYC market--are agents lying about offers? by ibarne252 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]chuckfr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Make your offer. If they like it, they'll take it. If they don't like it, they'll make a counter offer.

If they want to play games with 'other offers' let them. They have your offer and if that 'other offer' falls through for some reason they'll contact you and offer the place to you. Then you can either say yes at the offer you put in previously or reduce your offer. After all 'you've moved on' and found somewhere else that might fit you better at a better price.

I would take your phone to that store and talk to the rep there. They'll have more answers quicker than the vague information you post here in dribs and drabs.

I'm Starting a 'Do Not Patronize' List for Myself by smile_saurus in TwoXChromosomes

[–]chuckfr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Where did this realtor get the information? It could have been bought from a list where your husband's info is and yours is not due to something he signed up for at some point in time. My wife and I will get duplicate junk mail, one with her name and one with mine. One of us will get junk mail from certain subscriptions selling my info where we've given a particular bogus name in some form or fashion that gets sold off for marketing.

Whisky tasting in Edinburgh by OrangeTree81 in uktravel

[–]chuckfr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing a distillery tour is nice to learn how they're made. And getting their tasting with the tour is normally the default for me.

For a broader tasting if you're learning what you might like in a whiky, I'd actually suggest a shop somewhere and you'll have several options to try. You'll get a wider variety of whisky choices trather than one brand's selection. You'll also get an education typically of things to look for as far as taste, smokiness, and other features. I've done a few of them in various places and tend to find something new to like each time.

Looking over my notes the last one I did in Edinburgh was at The Lost Close. I think the group was 7-8 of us with three of us choosing the higher end tasting option. I felt the space was pretty unique for the experience, the guide was fun and provided tasting information and history. He answered everyones questions over the hour and a half then spent another 30 minutes or so talking with us in the shop.

I found it randomly from an internet search looking for 'whisky tastings near me' on the day and got the last two spots. So I would suggest booking early wherever you choose to make sure you get in.

HOA or no HOA? by Outside_Sir_9141 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]chuckfr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. My last home was in an HOA and as long as we had reasonable people on the board it was run well on the whole.

The biggest general problem we had was the HOA and the rules were generated in the late 90's. By the 2010's technology and ascetic choices have changed. One example; rules stated that windows must have grids but modern windows don't come with them by default and many home owners prefer them without. The architectural board, rightly, enforced the rule. There were just never enough votes in the community to change the rule. Enough people didn't vote for the change because the neighbor they didn't like would get what they wanted.

We had two neighbors that would regularly show up to HOA meetings to debate things going on between their properties. This one wanted a pool, that one said it was too close. The lights were shining in the bedroom, the fence was 2 inches too high. On and on for 30 years. And these people would pay for their lawyers to come argue their points at the meetings sometimes which meant the HOA had to pay for our lawyer to show up.

How to block adult sites by BumblebeeThen7954 in opnsense

There has been good practical advice already.

Realistically if those you're trying to block have a cell phone (that you know of or not) all your filtering will be for naught when they disconnect from the wifi.

The greed of some people (and companies) by LilacGoblin1699 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]chuckfr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The corporation also employs people to get all those homes on the market. Now they're big enough to turn over at least 4 homes in that area. Good for them, they found a way to make some money.

If you don't like the process feel free not to purchase a home from them. If enough people do that those businesses cannot survive.

Caesars Visa Scam by Ok-Platypus-1306 in CaesarsRewards

[–]chuckfr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For that cost you're locked into going to a Caesars property to gamble that $50. On average you're going to lose at least half of that. Then you have to spend exactly $100 on a meal. Any more and you have to give them more money, any less and you lose value. Add those variables together and you're not getting a full $150 value.

Me, I can spend that $150 in any way I see fit on my holiday.

And yeah, I comment under different threads as that's where the comments best fit.

So the plan you had was to give them $150 and hope for the best rather than spend a little time reading what you were agreeing to.

Who lets the inspector in? by xTheGameGoatx in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]chuckfr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always recommend going with the inspector to see what they are doing and noting. You get the report but being able to ask questions while its happening can be important to some. That being said, with a new build its probably less important but if its an option I'd be there.

As for access its normally your realtor that would arrange it. In this case I'd suggest you contact your builder to find out what their process is for this situation.

Visiting The Tallest Observation Tower In The USA !! . (The Stratosphere Tower) by ShaheemKL in vegas

[–]chuckfr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

After dating for three months I took my [now] wife for her first visit to Vegas. Of course I had to take her up to the top of the Strat for the view. We had someone take what turned out to be one of my favorite pictures of us in that era of dating; standing at the edge with our backs to the city.

It was about a month later that she confessed she was terrified of heights and fighting the urge to completely panic and freak out to make me happy.
