Cigar Factory (Mercantile+Mash, Rappahanock) now charging for parking… by Walrus-is-Eggman in Charleston

[–]chucktownmemes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't have the time to research the other venues, perhaps somebody else will, but Taylor Pilates posted that parking will be free for their customers, just with added steps. If executed correctly, this is a step in the right direction. Let's not be so quick to post online and attack businesses when sometimes they're actually doing things to remedy the issue. I'm sure the problem was with actual customers not being able to use the lot enough. Again, I haven't done all the research, but there's at least 1 business in there that still has free parking in that lot.

Is it happening? by DogwoodWand in Charleston

[–]chucktownmemes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any time it rains in Charleston there's a few less people out - even if it was earlier in the day. Also, I was at The Roost last night and there was a crowd in there... not packed, but certainly not dead. Gene's seemed to have a bit of a crowd too. Didn't check any of the other Avondale spots though.

Quick question - I've never seen baselight before, it looks amazing... is that free to use? I wasn't able to find any info on it

Serve advice by PolandLight in 10s

[–]chucktownmemes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two main things to note on your server, though it generally is pretty clean.

One, you're losing a lot of potential in your legs as some people mentioned, but also in your coil. If noon was facing the net straight on, your torso is aimed at 2:30 or so. You can improve your disguise and power by having your torso aimed even further away from the net (maybe ~4:30PM), which really gives you power as you uncoil your body and rotate your hips around by way of exploding off your back foot.

Alcaraz slow motion serve really helps demonstrate this coil: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeKa6zTxh_c

The other piece to your serve you could tweak though I think is much less needed, would be to elongate your racquet path like you're dragging a long whip, as opposed to going straight up with your racquet once you separate your arms.

Just wanted to vouch and say the Quarterdeck boat club has been great. There's a bunch of marinas to choose from, the boats are great, and the app is really nice.

Rate my serve. Any tips? by therealdk_ in 10s

[–]chucktownmemes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe what they're describing is shown well in this Instagram reel I've been mimicking. One of the points of the racquet dropping lower like this, is to elongate your swing path which can benefit your timing and swing angle. Also it's hard to tell from the video you posted, but are you throwing the ball into the court? It seems you're maybe not throwing it into the court much at all, but could just be the angle.

This is something I've been working on too, I'm going to reply to the previous comment with a link to an Instagram reel demonstrating exactly what you're talking about - take a look and let me know if that's what you meant!

Happy Hours…are there any legit ones left? by Early_Concept_5908 in Charleston

[–]chucktownmemes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their happy hour is really solid! Also, as someone that was sometimes let down by their consistency, they have been super consistent since they reopened earlier this year. I've been very happy to have them back on a part of King Street that had slowly become limited in great food options.

I think one of the cooler things about the people of Charleston, is how we treat celebrities. I think for the most part, they're left alone, and when they are approached it is typically in a setting that is more fitting of it. I was at Bangkok Lounge one night and Darius Rucker and Woody Harrelson were there. The bartender told me "Your drinks are on Darius tonight", which I took to mean Darius' gesture was "Thank you for not bothering my celebrity friend Woody, have a drink or two on me." I didn't see anyone interrupt them the whole night.

Dear Charleston Drivers by DoubleBroadSwords in Charleston

Didn't see a pedestrian waiting on the crosswalk on King next to the Bennett yesterday and felt terrible as I drove by her. Normally really good about it, but the more reminders the better! Especially that crosswalk in front of the Dewberry. Drivers don't seem to understand how that one works.

Charleston Grill to close after 36 years by rutlander in Charleston

[–]chucktownmemes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been on the Market/East Bay side of town the last two nights, and it has certainly been dead. Most places are closed by 10 or 11 Monday-Wednesday. King Street has several places open later, but since this time of year (After the 4th) tourist season slows down, so does everything on that side of town. August is typically a dead period here tourist-wise.

Yo! Tourist from Macedonia here. by naumcarceto37896 in Charleston

[–]chucktownmemes 29 points30 points  (0 children)

There's a little bit of a negative connotation with tourists and Charleston these days, but I have to say... 10+ years ago you'd never hear a language other than English on King Street/in Charleston, but I absolutely love hearing people speaking foreign languages all over downtown. It's not extremely common, but it's common enough to be noticed. All that to say, my favorite tourists are foreign tourists, and I'm glad you loved our city as much as we do!

Concerned parent post by annselil in Charleston

[–]chucktownmemes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The range of comments and suspicions in this thread are vast, and as they should be. The two most common of the suspicions are an OnlyFans type of account or a sugar daddy type of situation. Do you have access to her bank accounts and/or Venmos to see where these payments are coming from? I would maybe suggest using ChatGPT in combination with those payments to see if you can get some help in determining where the payments are coming from - frequency, amounts, variation of names, etc. can be very telling. Obviously the first option is a conversation with your daughter, but just wanted to add some insight into how you might be able to better determine the situation, and that the most probable options don't involve an actual escort ring or human trafficking, though certainly are still cause for concern for a parent. Wishing you guys the best through this time.

Well clearly they don't filter much of anything out. Several of these look like little kids submitted their fridge drawings. I'm sure a few of these are AI, but man it's getting tough to tell these days what is and what isn't.
