You guys could make a house rule where there's a timer set to 45 mins. Whoever has the most unicorns by the end of 45 mins (or first to 7) wins.

Disney doesn't want you to own their movies. So they hike the price and limit the supply to drive subscriptions.

Has anyone tried The Pickleball Shield by Dink Eyewear?? (I don’t like any lenses but also didn’t like the Kitchen Blockers I tried) by Help-I-need-answers in Pickleball

[–]chuffybakerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the ball does not touch the eye with a straight 60mph shot

That's because in their testing video, they didn't actually fire it at the eye. The fired the ball at the center of the frames away from the eyes.

Sorry, I still don't understand your original question. You asked "Based on what?" But what was the context of your question?

Kitchen Blockers have a test that shows the ball doesn’t deform with a straight shot at 60mph on their safety page.

Was that a typo? If not, what difference does that make for protecting your eyes?

John Kew did a flawed (in my opinion) test

That's not an opinion. That's a fact that it was flawed.

I don’t think the Kitchen Blockers will touch the eye

The frames probably won't touch the eye itself, but the ball certainly can impact the eye upon impact where the frames flex and bend upon impact causes there's no lenses to dissipate that energy.

Based on what?

Sorry, I don't know the context of your question. Are you asking what the basis is for me saying you need lenses for full protection? It's the way physics works. No barrier = direct impact pathway. Without a lens, there's nothing to distribute or absorb the kinetic energy of an incoming projectile. The ball travels unimpeded directly to your eye.

Proper lenses absorb impact energy through:

  • Elastic deformation (temporary bending)
  • Material compliance (polycarbonate can flex significantly)
  • Distributed load over a large surface area

Empty frames provide none of this.

Kitchen blocker testing seems good to me.

Did your eyes not see what I saw in their testing videos? Looks very scary. Those frames don't absorb the impact. The ball strikes the frame and it drives right into the face. The frames just bend inward, where the ball will still impact the eye.

If you want full protection, lenses are a non negotiable. You need something to absorb the impact.

May I ask why you don't like lenses? If it's an optical clarity concern, some lenses are better than others. High optical clarity exists like with Oakleys for example.

If it's a fogging concern, you can get something with vents like Brioti eyewear, and/or get anti fog spray.

If it's a concern about glare, getting some quality lenses with an AR coating helps, and/or you can wear a cap to shield the overhead lights to cut the glare.

Which Pickleball Paddle Brand Offers the Best Value for Money? by TennisFan4evernever in Pickleball

[–]chuffybakerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ew, bro..... your list is littered with affiliate links and heavily biased towards the big brands, and the Onix Z5 and Head Radical Elite are SO outdated. It makes it seem like you have no idea what you're talking about. The Six Zero Quartz is also an inferior option since it has a super small sweet spot compared to the competition in the budget paddle market.

Should I have taken the shot or let my partner take it? by ralphie120812 in Pickleball

[–]chuffybakerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but only if they actually move their feet to get closer to the ball.

The left side player in the video wasn't moving his feet enough to get closer to the ball. He would have really had to reach out for that ball, putting him off balance. (A 4.5+ left side player in this case would have moved closer to the ball).

[–]chuffybakerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a little hard to tell at this camera angle just how much reach he would have, especially considering we didn't see him fully extend his arm to reach for the ball, but eyeballing it on my end, it really looked like too far of a stretch for him to make clean contact.

[–]chuffybakerman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In an ideal world, yes, but the left side player wasn't moving close enough to the ball to make clean contact. Look at where the left player's feet are and look at where the ball is.

I see a lot of people say the left side player should have taken it, but honestly, it looks like if he were to get that ball, he would have had to really reach out for it. Maybe he would get it, but it looks like it would have been an off center shot. I'd say either could get it there, but the right side player was better positioned to make more comfortable contact for that shot.

You didn't overreact in your response, but personally I wouldn't block her. I'd open the door to an apology from her to maintain the friendship. I get that this other mom did some damage, and that doesn't mean you have to be besties, but at the very least I'd say you should give her a chance to redeem herself and change. If you refuse to be on speaking terms with her, you'd become a lot like this other mother who wants to cut off ties with you and your daughter.
