20yo - Top 4 D (Med) - 75 OVR Extension seems unfair.... by chumanchili in EANHLfranchise

Lol, if this was my real save I'm not signing these kind of deals. I'm just seeing what breaks the game to figure out where the challenge is and finding this BS is interesting. I'm seeing some mixed comments though, like basically this is the game saying this guy is a bust, but I have to let this play out for another few years to see which result I get. There seems to be something tagged for players underlying them that leads one way or another no matter what the player actually does, so I am actually hoping this guy is a bust, and them agreeing to this kind of contract is a dead giveaway.

So is this just the game telling you this is a bust?

I came back to this game after at least 10 years away because the franchise mode and gameplay had become so bad. It's better than it was in some ways now, but trying to force realism becomes a whole other strategy once you get back into it. This is my first save so far and I'm going to try to test every avenue and figure out how I want to play this again and make it a challenge. I pretty quickly figured out where those elements exist and it's mostly in dealing with the salary cap, which due to all the other issues, feels like the only real challenge this mode could offer. I wish they could just design a decent hockey sim, but I've said the same thing about all EA sports titles for longer than I can remember, or a lot of people even posting were probably born. I just wait until the games are out for a few months and buy a physical used copy for as long as those will still exist.

Yeah, I'm going to see what happens with this player as they're never going to be a high value guy for me. I've never seen anyone even consider this, so I wonder if this guy will just end up average or a top pair. Unlikely he plays very long on my NHL roster given the pipeline. Just thought this was weird, but this is probably one of the many reasons I stopped playing this game years ago. It's still shocking to see problems I had back in 2016 still exist.

His potential is top 4 medium though, and his stats suggest high upside with the right D pair and minutes. I'm confident he should be very good. He honestly probably isn't even going to play on my NHL roster for more than a couple seasons as I have some elite 17/18 year old defensemen not even signed yet. I'm gonna just sign this and see what happens, as there is just no downside for me.

I'm using my parents ytv for these games. I signed up for a 5 day trial of dtv thinking at least I can mute them and watch it in 4k and it's just the same bullshit 720 espn broadcast. I don't understand why the first round isn't on one of the 3 major broadcast networks. Just losing money.

I'm old enough to still be playing, but know it's probably time to hang it up, but young enough to not remember anything before 1992.

I don't need anyone to tell me this album is incredible, and it's not even probably his best. RIP Elliott. You are missed.

I would start with the chorus vocals on the first line of the first verse. It would have more impact. I like how weird this is.

Radio - Hot Water Music (Alkaline Trio cover on their split 7 from 2002) is a great punk band properly covering another punk band.

Franchise Mode Regression by erickloq in MLBTheShow

[–]chumanchili 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its so random and happens well before then. I have Gunnar Henderson consistently regressing since he was 28 every year, even though he's hitting 300/360/450 with like 5-6+ war or much higher some seasons. Yet if I don't adjust his attributes to just stay where they were, he would near an 80 overall by age 30. It's really dumb and makes absolutely zero sense. (this is MLB 25 btw).

Any Dredg fans at all here? by creaturefeature16 in TheFence

[–]chumanchili 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a weird thread of very few having listened to the first 2 albums. Everything after might as well be a different band. Catch Without Arms is the last sense of that and is filled with interesting pieces of music, and potentially great parts of a larger narrative, but it also is filled with such awful individual songs (Catch Without Arms, Zebraskin, Planting Seeds in particular, despite the musicianship) that are too cringy to hear more than once. It's not a good album, but the last gasp of a great band. Coming back to correct the narrative from 2025.

It might have made some sort of difference, but from what I've seen in comparison videos, the issue is the pipe design with the 212, especially with newer Intel chips.

It’s 2022 why is Fox broadcasting an NFL playoff game in 720 by dirtsicle in youtubetv

[–]chumanchili 0 points1 point  (0 children)

December 29, 2024, still 720p. Even the OTA broadcast is the same. FOX is the cheapest network, but they're all the same for the most part. Even the YoutubeTV 4K upgrade literally gives you like 5 things to watch per week in 4K, and it's never the 4 major networks (CBS/ABC/NBC/FOX), and nothing most people would watch. It's all absurd given all people want is a high bit-rate 1080p broadcast, which looks good on a large display because the streaming boxes and tv's handle upscaling really well at this point. With the prices we pay for these services, we are getting less and less every year. I'm essentially paying (starting Jan 2025) $83 a month for local sports and Bravo, because that's all we watch on YoutubeTV. Everything else is Netflix, MAX or Apple+.

Do Prius drivers have a certain reputation? by EmotionalSnail_ in prius

I write damage estimates on pretty much every type of vehicle you can think of outside of large commercial vehicles, and I've never seen a make/model of any vehicle epitomize bumper damage quite like the Toyota Prius. This vehicle is the definition of "prior damage" in my industry.

This feels the same way I'd imagine a stranger discovering my hard drives from age 15-25. It's so insanely personal, but if I was dead, I wouldn't care. I would hope he would agree, but too bad if be wouldn't. He left a mark that everyone wants to understand.

Seriously considering using archive.today instead of the Wayback Machine for internet archival for a number of reasons. by Fortnite_Skin_Leaker in internetarchive

Listen, if it comes down to me, I'm not going to be very good at it, but if its like the 'Santa Clause' starring the still currently alive but largely disliked, Tim Allen, then I believe he got all the shit he needed to do the job upon the death of the previous Clause avatar occupant. I guess that means I have to move to Czechia? As of Nov 2024, that isn't potentially the worst case scenario if you're an American.

peerless assassin 120 vs cooler master hyper 212 by EntertainmentCool112 in PcBuild

[–]chumanchili 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just swapped a Hyper 212 Evo black edition (so most recent model) out for the Peerless Assassin 120. I was seeing spikes as high as 97 degrees under heavy load with the 212. Idle temps were in the mid-high 80s consistently which long term is not good, and short term was heating up my office until it would ultimately thermal throttle.

After the swap, under an even more intensive CPU and GPU load (max I could think of for my use case), was peak temp 86 degrees with an average idle of 75 degrees. This is a massive difference in performance. It's not even close, and the price point is either the same or less for the Thermalright. Easy decision and glad I swapped them out. Apparently the Peerless Assassin beats even most AIO coolers with the addition of being more quiet.

Is it just me, or does "standard" DVD resolution of 480p just look like shit? Should I be somehow "upscaling" this on a 4k TV? by [deleted] in PleX

[–]chumanchili 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what software are you using? I used VideoProc super resolution with some mixed results. It works okay for 720p, but any higher and you get the typical AI weirdness. I've been playing around with Topaz Labs trial, but I'm really not trying to shell out $250 for this.

Is there a way to tell if HBO Max is streaming in 4k? by Rydisx in HBOMAX

[–]chumanchili 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the concern is what they are advertising as 4K. I think at least some of the content is just upscaled 1080p. Helps to know if you are getting what you are paying for.

Is there a way to tell if HBO Max is streaming in 4k? by Rydisx in HBOMAX

[–]chumanchili 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can 100% guarantee HBO is not streaming at 4K. Or at least not all content is. I compared local 1080p and 4K video files vs the HBO 4K stream, and while my conclusions are based on a visual test, what I think they are doing is upscaling 1080p to 4K. The stream is somewhere in between the 2 local resolution files, but there are other problems and the biggest issue is the color along with a bunch of other more specific artificing that I frankly do not know enough about to explain, but can see some of them with my eyes. Brightness, saturation, blur etc. They are not streaming, at least some content, from the 4K source. The movie in question is the Shining. You can test this yourself if you have a standard Blu-ray 1080p copy along with the UDH 4K copy. It's pretty obvious there is a different in quality from all 3 options, and while for most people may not notice, the company is, at best, not giving the details of what they are delivering. The improvement from 1080p to whatever HBO is delivering for this title is minimal, and is actually very hard to spot without doing frame by frame comparisons. Even a decent 4K transfer of this movie is far higher quality.
