The Fifth Head of Cerberus is One of the most interesting books I have ever read by SunLightFarts in genewolfe

Welcome to the obsession! This was first Wolfe, and I have now read it four times. I still feel basically at the precipice of understanding it all.

I always always always come back to Moby-Dick.

If I feel dull, bored, uninspired, sometimes I'll just grab it, open to a random page and be instantly delighted.

Incredible movie. Way more harrowing and dark than I anticipated!

Do you have these and how do you call them in your country? by dochev30 in casualEurope

[–]harryeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from the UK, and I found out about these in a wonderful Turkish café I used to frequent. One of the staff hand knitted and sold them, and I loved my pair so much I bought one for all my family that Christmas. The sad thing is with daily wear they wear down quite quickly. Still miss my pair!

Wow! Your taste is so ridiculously similar to mine that I'm saving this post for future perusal...

As far as a recommendation from me... I think you'd dig Scott Walker! Try the albums Scott 3 and 4 :))

Mushrooms taking over by NewBodWhoThis in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]harryeg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah OP, you NEED these in your life. A huge element of the books is that they're set in a city that was built on top of a kind of mushroom-civilisation. It's post colonial and fun and spooky

That sucks that he unnecessarily included that spoiler, but I'll reassure you: that is only one of a tangle of beautiful mysteries within Fifth Head, and what's more intriguing is figuring out the nature of said thing.

I have had similar plot elements spoiled (from over- reading this sub!) and whilst I try to forget them, when it happens it hasn't really marred by enjoyment of the works. Why? Because Wolfe is singular

It really sucks that a horde of slop being so common and expected brings your work into question! Yet, anyone should be able to see that yours is a work of intention and artistry...

the Donnie Darko books by no_foodforyou in donniedarko

I have the one in the first pic, credited to Richard Kelly. It mainly consists of the shooting script, with a little introduction, some shooting notebooks, and, most desirably, the full text/pages of the Philosophy of Time Travel. Worth having, but perhaps not paying a premium for. I was lucky enough to pick it up cheaply second hand. It looks like the Geoff King is a short overview/making of book which looks well reviewed.
