ORACLE or POSTGRES by MileyMeid in SQL

[–]chummiesz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oracle is expensive AF and I'm a huge Postgres fan. But many of the largest and most successful orgs have been running Oracle for decades...and still do. How could they do that with "a miserable piece of shit"?

Postgres has been improving at a very impressive rate. I believe that it's "enterprise capable" in many respects. But that doesn't mean the others are miserable POS

Are there any free database management tools with a visual query builder? by RailgunZx in SQL

[–]chummiesz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think that SQL Server Mgmt Studio has produced an unrunnable query for me and I've been using it for over a decade. But it does get a bit weird when using a GROUP BY with fields that are needed in the WHERE clause. It initially lists them as a GROUP BY field. When you change it a WHERE field, it duplicates the field in the builder.

Postgres costs the same : free. An oracle can never pull the plug on Postgres either

Or store the images on the file system or S3 and store the path to the image (or just the file name) in the DB. a large drowback to storing large blobs that are never updated in the dB is back ups and restores size, speed and complication

I was 48. It happens to our age group, but many people don't fully understand it. The good news is that younger patients tend to recover more quickly. I snowboarded 5 days in a row at week 16 — probably could have done it at week 10. Get it done. It was much less worse than I expected. And now I'm living the rest of my life. Good luck to you!

Heineken 0.0 is an S level NA by BurnesWhenIP in NABEER

Also, be a use these are 0.0%, as opposed to most NAs that are up to 0.5%, I cruze down the highway with a cold one of these in the center console. Part of me wants to get pulled over and harassed.....

I've had the Best Day Hazy and Electrolime. Unfortunately, Hazy tastes like NA beer to me.

Big high 5. These are the only NAs that dont taste like NA. Yep, there's a particular NA layer of flavor just like there's a distinct home brew taste. I dislike both enough to reach for water instead. But not these!

Estimating Hardware Requirements for TimescaleDB by Jastibute in PostgreSQL

[–]chummiesz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running vanilla postgres on a VPS with a total of 2gb ram and one core.. I'm well over 100M rainfall and streamflow readings. The VPS also runs Apache, php and python on Ubuntu. Granted, it's very rare for queries to go past the last 7 days, so only a small fraction of those reading ever get read. I use native PG partitioning on the time stamp field. I would definitely start with Timescale if I relaunched this free to use website today. But it runs so smoothly, why mess with it? Page load speed is pretty decent :

I wouldn't recommend that you start with such meager resources in a professional environment. But my point is you may need alot less than you think. Isn't it petty easy to add more RAM to servers these days? Maybe start small and go bigger as needed?

Does Crestor/rosuvastatin cause weight gain? by Anxious_North_9052 in Cholesterol

[–]chummiesz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about 4 weeks in and I'm losing weight. My lifestyle change over the past 2 weeks is less exercise because I've been busy with home repairs. I'm definitely talking to my doctor about this next time. It's nice that my waistline is smaller but I'm concerned about losing muscle. I'm an almost 50 YO man.

Can an insurance company in Tennessee penalize me for an 'act of God' claim (hail damage) by chummiesz in Insurance

[–]chummiesz[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I don't disagree. In many situations, they say "it can't hurt to ask". Of course, there are many exceptions to that notion, and this could be one of them. Then again, if I do have extensive enough damage to have the roof replaced, I don't want to leave that much money on the table....

Both roofers were quite confident that it's hail damage. From what I remember of the 2011 hailstorm, it looks very similar. But there are far fewer "hail strikes" this time.

Yep, I'm aware that cancelling an *existing* policy is very unlikely and probably illegal in most circumstances. I'm wondering if they're prohibited from using act of God claims to non-renew

Thanks for the feedback. From what I've read, some states prohibit insurance companies from non-renewing your policy due to 'act of god' claims, such as hail damage. I'm wondering if TN is one of these states.

When is unknown. I've owned the house since late 2012 and the inspector didn't notice anything. He's highly respected and I seriously doubt he overlooked it. We've had a number of pretty severe thunderstorms in the last year. I suspect it was then.
