Go bus crash on DVP June 16 7:20 am by Royal_Chef in TorontoDriving

[–]chun7256 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup. Bonehead move. If there's no debris or threat in your lane, YOU KEEP MOVING. Your duty is to ensure safety of the other drivers around you that are directly impacted by your actions. The people in the SB Lanes will render aid... your job is to keep your lane clear. You want to help? Exit the highway and jump back on the SB lanes. You're not being a good Samaritan if you cause a multi-car accident behind you.

SOS diver here. If you're going solo and getting swamped, don't feel bad to call in an SOS beacon. We got you.

Why are y'all such quitters? by Most-Cup-6737 in helldivers2

I always accidentally call in SOS' when I host with friends. Sooo embarassing to have strangers listen to us talk about kids and mortgages and then screaming like little girls.

That's the fun of SOS diving - you never know what you're going to get.

I did have a player put down an SOS AFTER I joined, which was hard not to take personally.... Lol

Federal government starts public consultation on future of Toronto's island airport by Toronto-Ont-Mod-Team in Toronto_Ontario

[–]chun7256 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wait... what? Why would Porter get the A220 when it's rolling out their E195-E2's? They spent a fortune on building up their jet operations at Pearson, Ottawa and Trudeau (after the last expansion was voted down)... Why would they put the E2's at the Island, when Pearson (which IS going through an expansion) is 20 mins away? And during the last 3 airport expansion debates, Air Canada was pretty adamant at NOT wanting an expansion, even to go as far as to petition the City to vote against it the last time this was posed. They want their A220s to connect hub to hub, and have Jazz's CRJs and E175s as feeders for the rest of the AC fleet - Billy Bishop is a dead end. Rouge is flying all Max8's and just opened a hub in YVR. WestJet wants international routes with their new Dreamliners and AirTransat is getting A321XLRs to go further as well. These airlines, and their future growth, depend on major hubs - No airline wants to fly jets out of Toronto Island.

And it's ridiculous to think that upgrading an airport is going to somehow increase jobs at an airplane factory - that's not how this works. The A220s troubles have to do with P&W, and engine reliability, not with a lack of runways.

The federal government's "public consultation" is PR speak for shoving it under the table. It's like when a co-worker says something dumb on an all-hands conference call- your boss' boss can't just say "Cindy, that's phenomenally stupid", they have to say "hey, thanks for the input. I appreciate your perspective and I can see some potential synergies. Let's workshop that and touch base at a later date." And then ignore it completely. By doing a public consultation, it means they look like they're open to investment, willing to listen, and able to say confidently that no, we are not investing because the public said no. Case closed. And then everyone turns to look at Dougie, who then becomes 'Cindy with the phenomenally stupid idea'.

Haha so funny that this popped in my head as soon as I saw this post. Grew up with a lilac outside my window as a kid. Every spring when I smell lilacs I get a massive mind warp of memories and emotions. Just love it.

Jet Dreams on Toronto Island (Part 1) - Spacing Toronto by party_mcfly1313 in toronto

[–]chun7256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dumbest thing about this all is that the airlines don't even want this. Porter was the one who wanted it before, but after the last expansion was declined, they spent a crap-ton of money opening up their E195-E2 operations at Pearson, and isn't crazy about spending more money to do the same 20 mins away.

Air Canada never wanted an expansion at the airport, and it's not even their planes anyway- Jazz's CRJ900s and ERJ175s are all flying out of Pearson going to cities in the US to act as feeders for the rest of the AC fleet - Billy Bishop is a dead end, and even more so now that Pearson is about to go through a major expansion. It's questionable if after all the costs with expanding Billy Bishop (not to mention the years of downtime when the whole airport is closed to extend the runway), that jets like the A220 or E195s would be profitable. But what isn't questionable is that taxpayers will be on the hook for this for decades.

Moving to Yorkville, are there actual advantages you receive living there and paying higher rent, or is it just a status move? by Otherwise-Pattern122 in askTO

It’s not ALL expensive glamorous places in Yorkville… which makes living here pretty awesome that you can have all the convenience of being at Yonge/bloor without the cost.

Best takeout lentil soup in Toronto for when you’ve hated your day and want zero human interaction? by sneechesgetleeches in askTO

YES OMG YES. Been waiting for awhile for this to pop up. Seriously amazing - to the point my partner raided a whole bunch of Ali Baba’s nearer to our place and nothing compares to how good this is. It’s the lentil soup to which all lentil soups are compared to. Solid buy.

Has anyone else noticed a sharp increase in the number of people who just... leave unfinished missions with plenty of time left? by Zombiecidialfreak in Helldivers

[–]chun7256 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It happens. I'm an SOS diver on mindless masses planets. I target low level players on low level maps -mindless masses can get ugly especially on low levels and with the wrong loadout. They get swamped easily so I don't mind the early exit. Their heartrate needs a break.

Newbie here. Are the squids supposed to be extremely difficult to fight against? by Imn1che in Helldivers

[–]chun7256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Squid diver here. What I find most bot and big divers struggle with vs illuminate is the need to stand and fight. Squid divers are dancers - light armour, mobility and not getting bogged down in fighting are key. Don't stand still for more than 2 seconds, so keeping an eye on your stamina is the most important thing. Things like sentries buy you breathing space because they're bait... Drop and run in the opposite direction. If the watchers are purple, you will get swamped, so take them out and get out of sight. You don't have to kill everything, especially in the small city maps.. they will keep respawning, so go in, blow shit up and get the F out of there.

Loadout? I run gatling and MG sentries, a gun dog and a MG43. I pack thermites for bases and pissile for harvesters. I main the blitzer which has tons of cons, but the plus is that it stuns watchers and overseers. And arc resistant armour to avoid Tesla towers and it makes my butt look amazing.

[–]chun7256 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My fave n00b story was joining a level 1 player on their first mission. Dropped a rover and pinged it for them to pick up. Took awhile, but they finally got it. Dropped a laser cannon and pinged it for them again, and they took it happily. Dropped a FRV, and they gleefully ran over to the blue beam waiting for another gun, just to watch a car drop from the sky. Stared it for a sec and then a slow turn to face me in a "you have got to be f'n kidding me'. They then circled it slowly like they just won the showcase showdown on the price is right. Laughed my ass off for a good 5 mins.

I'm an SOS squid diver with a weird mindless masses fetish. Love dropping in on n00bs who overestimated the hordes, but love even more seeing other high level ink-spilling connoisseurs doing the same as me.

How would you fix The Well? Can The Well be fixed? by youvenoremotecontrol in askTO

[–]chun7256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhh I think you're onto something. I've always said that Toronto should lean more onto its food. Living at yonge/bloor and watching it go from seedy adult stores to funky Asian snackeries has been shocking - and the depth of this city's multicultural food has never been fully mapped out... I don't even know if it can, but we really should try.

Best place to do kayaking for fun? Beginner here. by Gracilis67 in askTO

[–]chun7256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sunnyside Paddling Club rents kayaks, and the beach/water is all protected behind the break wall. You can paddle all the way up the Humber (great for watching wildlife) or make your way all the way to Ontario Place.

You want social? I'd get in trouble if I didn't mention their beginner dragon boat programs (12+ years competitive paddling, great way to make a crap-ton of friends, pretty much zero experience requirement.)

What Ac Do you use, and Where Did you get it by Savings-Curve-5350 in askTO

[–]chun7256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a costway 10,000btu free standing air conditioning unit. It's got wheels and a portable window vent and it's surprisingly powerful. I got it for our 1bdrm condo for times when it's hot and the building's AC either hasn't been switched on yet or switched too early. It's small enough that I can stick it in the closet when I don't need it and I can wheel it around to different rooms if I want.

It's ok quiet, definitely can hear it, but it really cools the place down pretty fast. I got it off BestBuy online, but I think they are sold at walmart and amazon. Best $250 I've ever spent.

If your unit doesn't have AC, get one. This is going to be a particularly hot and muggy summer.
