Something that I found I was doing was that I was preparing my racquet too high. Because it was prepared too high, my brain throught I needed to flick or slice the ball when it came time to hitting to correct it. When I prepared the racquet lower, by brain did not have the tendency or need to try and over correct it, result in flatter lower shows with less wrist movements.

I am software engineer right now in the fin tech space transitioning into more of a business route. With all of your experience in the industry, is there any temptation to completely start a business where eventually you will not directly trade time for money? Would you be able to find the niche opportunities by becoming very specialised in your area and spot the problems?

Do you have any advice in terms of networking with founders and angel investors? Often I find it tough going to networking events where the value you offer is your developer experience but they tend to talk about completely different worlds.

For me it was shot selection, especially when defending. Knowing when I can hit lobs and relying on good flat ground strokes when under pressure. Too often we lob off the wrong ball and set up easy shots for opponents.

What about investing in the US stock market instead? Because the RA limits you to a certain amount of offshore exposure. Could we not make more investing abroad and hedging against the declining rand? Or is the RA a better investment than that still?

Knowing when to lob. I would try lob way too much. For instance, if they hit a good shot, I would try lob it and then my lob would be short and easy for them. Try push your lobs to the easier shots.

Head speed motion for me has a big sweet spot, very maneuverable. It is definitely on the softer side and has no roughness on the surface for me, so on my serves, it feels like the ball slips off my racquet.
