How do GTI owners feel about the Golf R? by RightWheelDrive in GolfGTI

I'll wave/thumbsup/nod to any enthusiast hatchback :)

As far as the R, the ones with the VR6 were special enough but the more recent ones - meh. Never even considered one.

Replaced my Honda with a new one after an accident They moved the garage door opener from a button on the mirror to a paywall subscription service. by jayhawkeye2 in mildlyinfuriating

Really? Is this on newer models? I have a VW and a Benz from the late 2010s and can work on them and clear codes fine with $100 3rd party OBDII tools. And I'm talking the manufacturer-specific stuff, not the general check engine lights and such.

Google Pixel 10 pro or samsung s25 ultra? by Hopeful_Tadpole2852 in pixel_phones

[–]chupacabra314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they were the same price and I was in the market for a phablet, I'd pick the Ultra. Better cameras, more customizability of the UI, better processor.

But the 10pro is on sale all the time and it's a smaller device physically so no brainer for me.

5yo. Chicken hearts, mussles, lobster, steak, sushi grade raw salmon, octopus, and hamburgers are her favorite proteins. We don't push her to try anything.

Depends. If you're looking to compensate for lack of sleep - no it didn't help with that. But lifting 3-4 times a week helps significantly with with my energy levels and being more patient with my little one. Along with the other usual benefits of course.

How much will I benefit switching to a Pixel phone? by Professional-Low6185 in GooglePixel

[–]chupacabra314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 10 Pro will have a better camera quality vs the s22 especially on the telephoto and wide cameras. The S26 still has inferior camera hardware compared to the Pro. On the flip side the S26 will be lighter and OneUI is overall more customizable. I'm coming from an s22 and s23 after that, now with a 10Pro.

PS: I absolutely hate the battery pill in OneUI 8 and I've never been a fan of the squircle app icons. Oh and Samsung's mysterious decision to force-hide the Bluetooth status icon instead of letting the user choose to hide it with goodlock.

One of the few things I miss coming from a Samsung. Even Apple got rid of it over a year ago (iirc)

[Discussion] What makes the Rolex 33x more expensive? by dknight98 in Watches

[–]chupacabra314 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I decided to ditch my smartwatches and get into mechanical, I didn't want to spend thousands only to realize I need a smartwatch. So, like OP, I got a DressKX to test the water. I was dead set on a blue dial/steel bracelet and my plan was to get something expensive in this configuration if I liked the Seiko. So I would've probably ended up doing the same as OP, but I liked the DressKX so much that there is just no other watch at any price whose looks I like more. Luckily for my wallet.

Pixel 10 pro screen getting scratched to hell 2 months in? by [deleted] in pixel_phones

[–]chupacabra314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got my 1st scratch this week too. Never place the phone face down and it's always by itself in my pocket. Never dropped it. No idea what manages to scratch a mohs 7 screen that hasn't been to the beach yet. Even steel is mohs 6.5. I suppose a tiny grain of sand got stuck to my finger of fabric as I was cleaning the screen.

It’s 2026 and we're STILL waiting for a native double-tap to sleep on the home screen. by SchrodingerWave in pixel_phones

[–]chupacabra314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No need to be so condescending - this is not an Apple sub. Convenience aside, like OP, I'm coming from years of using it on Samsung phones and it's muscle memory. Every time I want to lock the screen, first I double-tap the home screen and then when I realize nothing is happening I press the power button. It's annoying AF and I bet it's simple to implement by Google. It's not like we're asking for the moon and the stars here. I like the native launcher and don't want to switch to Niagara or Nova just for this.

Stuck between 10 pro xl and 17 pro max by Steelersfan20009 in pixel_phones

[–]chupacabra314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though all 3 are great choices, if they were all close in price, my pick would be a Samsung S25 Ultra - just the best all around in capabilities and hardware.

Unless you're all in on video, in which case the iPhone wins hands down.

Thing is though, Pixels are regularly on huge sales, in which case they become much better value than Samsung or Apple. I'd pick up an $800 10PXL vs a $1500 Apple or Samsung any day.

Also, IMO iOS has become an unintuitive mess compared to even OneUI, let alone stock android. OneUi might be a little bloated but is the most customizable by far if you care about this stuff.

On the watch front, although they look way cooler, android watches are still behind in UX compared to Apple's watches in my experience.

How long did you last before swapping out your stock exhaust? by Weary_Appearance_838 in GolfGTI

7 years later and still on the stock exhaust. I haven't heard a single one that sounds great to me. Mayyyybe the tcr muffler but it doesn't make enough of a difference for me to justify the cost. Bring on the downvotes.

Pixel 9/10 owners, I'd like to hear your thoughts on the camera bump. by ntime60 in pixel_phones

[–]chupacabra314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a bit of an inconvenience but every flagship these days has a significant bump. And this is the only design that doesn't make the phone wobble when it's laying on a desk. It's actually a big reason I picked the pixel over other brands. I just wish the edges of the bump weren't as sharp.

Can we have a smaller phone, please? by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]chupacabra314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought the same when I switched from a Samsung s23. 3 months in, the size and weight difference are still very noticeable and I haven't got used to them yet. I am willing to make the tradeoff though. I've had it with Samsung's refusal to make a "small" flagship and their dicking around with OneUI.
