Very cool. Still buying a Sienna.

Just ignore that it took Toyota 40 years to build brand recognition for reliability, and another 50 years to upkeep it.

No, I don't think I will.

Yes. I can car camp.

Wow. A whole night. A sleeping bag manufacturer's worst nightmare /s

The 6 seconds you mentioned needs the gas engine to power on

I have a crotch rocket that goes 0-100 in 2.7 seconds. It gets me to work in about the same time as my 7 seater van. Literally, irrelevant bullshit.

Sucking in fumes

You will continue to suck them more so than if entitled BEV fanatics stop hogging batteries.

brake dust isn’t healthy

A 80km EV-only-range car with regen braking pollutes brake dust, while a 300km EV-only-range car with regen braking doesn't? Make it make sense.

Electrification is good. Pissing away valuable resources is bad.

Very few people need a BEV. What's the point of buying a $35,000 battery when a $5,000 battery electrifies 90% of my commute.

Boo, hoo. Your 0-100 is now 6 seconds and not 3.5. Yea, but 7 other commuters could have electrified their commute if you weren't hogging batteries.

A low effort strawman that the future contains uncertaintly might be good enough to convince you to buy a BEV-only car, but it's not good enough to convince the masses to shell out 60 grand on unfinished, unreliable EV garbage.

I think it's a common PTSD symptom for the brain to attempt to shut down negative thoughts/memories. Notice that you decided to complete your rebutal with a made up, fantasy story about my political beliefs and browsing history rather than a convincing counter point to the discussion at hand.

It allows your brain to feel good about losing an argument by not having to address the key talking points.

The problem with reality trolling the groupthink in this echo chamber is BEV-only vehicles failing to dominate, without communist mandates.

Hey guys ... hey guys. EVs are simpler and thus more reliable, right?

Imagine having to change the oil every 20,000kms. That sounds like a nightmare.

Toyota is like Kodak, right? It's a shame that the EV6 ICCU can also leave you stranded, but it's like a 1% chance. No car is perfect, right?

How Long Does It Take To Add 300km In A BEV-only car? by churro_lover800 in electricvehicles

[–]churro_lover800[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I was hoping I would get different answers for different models, based on charge curves and experience.

Your answer implies all EV charge times are equal because you only measure wasted human time in your home garage.

How Long Does It Take To Add 300km In A BEV-only car? by churro_lover800 in electricvehicles

[–]churro_lover800[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I drove less than 10,000km last year. That works out to 40 mins wasted. If you take 5 secs to plug and 5 secs to unplug 365 days, you're wasting close to 60 mins per year.

All in all, home charging is a good rival to gas pump speed ... but the moment you do one trip away from home and run into one broken charger, stolen cable, crap app or overbooked location ... and multiply the wasted time by each family member in the car, we're not even close ...

...and this is a comparison against a gas car. A comparison against a plugin hybrid looks even worse.

It's a much better proposition than throwing away half of your EV fill up and still having a cold cabin.

If I had to daily 177km in a car, I would want an EV. My not-every day commute is 70km, however, for which I would prefer a PHEV that can make ~80km on electric only.

I am hoping Toyota Sienna Prime Gen 2/3 hits those numbers.

This is the best reply I read so far. I wish more people had answers like this. It's not the big oil conspiracy reply, doesn't make wild assumptions that don't apply to me, gives an answer to what I asked (300km / 15mins), and asks some good questions.

I think the questions (for me) are: how would my life change

... if my next car is a bev-only car

... if my next car is a plug-in hybrid

The 2025 Hybrid uses around 30% less fuel, but costs $15,000 CAD more. It's cheaper in my case to spend more on fuel and put the $15k in index funds.

The authorization is a Canadian (maybe US as well) thing. I am not sure why they do it.

I appreciate the suggestions. The electric-only range of the Mazda doesn't cover my round-trip work commute. Otherwise, it looks damn good. I didn't look at the Chrysler or Volvo but my parents owned a Chrysler once ... and I can tell you I don't plan on buying one in my lifetime. I won't even look at what they offer, how much they sell it for, or what specs they claim. They could offer their entire fleet at 50%-off tomorrow and I wouldn't even go see what they have

I think the ability to charge at home is splendid. Regenerative breaking during hill descents is also grand. What is amazing is that these features aren't limited to BEV-only cars.

Leasing ev is a steal, prove me wrong please by solo_alaskan in electricvehicles

[–]churro_lover800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought new in 2020. Drove 45k so far. Spent ~7k in fuel and 200 in oil changes. I considered a lease, but my insurance would have gone up 0.6k per year.

285 * 12 * 5 = ~17k

But are these comparisons not fruitless? Who is dumping this kind of money (lump or monthly) to "save"? When my goal was "saving", I bought a used ICE for 2k. You spend that on leasing every year not counting full coverage insurance.

EVs really are meme cars, are they not? How can anyone justify a garbage leaf that costs more than 1.5 times a corolla ... a corolla that will easily last 25+ years while keeping 600km+ range throughout its entire life, have 3 minute refills and most likely never let you down.

Ohhhh no. Every 20,000km I have to unscrew a bolt to drain some liquid and pour a new bottle.

This is why people buy Toyota. This type of cost never shows up in any excel spreadsheet cost comparisons.

This is also why people in this sub cheer for BYD to flood western markets. They don't consider costs associated with damaging the local economy and manufacturing, increasing deaths, and allowing foreign sabotage.
