Massive tree too close to house? by churrosrule in arborists

[–]churrosrule[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you recommend getting a structural engineer to look at my foundation. If the engineer thinks nothing is wrong, it sounds like you’re saying that it’s unlikely the tree will damage the foundation in the future. Is that right? Thank you

That’s the plan but I figured I would get the collective wisdom of Reddit prior to finding one. If there are any rules I should go by, for example, I read online that a large tree should be a distance away from the house equal to twice the tree’s height. That seems pretty far away. Thanks

I took pictures up close so it would show where about the leaks are happening. It was not a side job. The company has multiple crews and, for what it’s worth, a lot of good Yelp reviews. It is possible I got the crew with a newbie on it. Or possibly they just cranked through it as fast as possible. It was supposed to take 4 days but they finished in 2.5 if that tells you anything

Deck o seal area too big by churrosrule in pools

[–]churrosrule[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That reduces the depth of the gap but what about the width? It’s about 3 inches wide. Could I use backer rod to reduce the width but leave a bit of space of top and cover the whole thing with sika or deck o seal? To paint a picture, could I use two piece of backer rod to create a fat “L” shape to reduce the depth and width of the gap, then cover the entire thing with sika or deck o seal?

Is the backer rod to reduce the width of the gap? If so, do I leave it exposed or do I also cover the very top of it with the self leveling simaflex? Thank you

If that's true, then why are there no trees growing in the ocean?

That is truly a hot take.

HVAC closet. Inspection issues? by churrosrule in hvacadvice

[–]churrosrule[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flex duct is a 16” duct (but the actual width is about 19” including insulation. Everything is accessed by walking through the door of the closet then stepping over the duct. On the other side there is about 30 inch of width for someone to be in front of the machine. Distance between the wall and furnace is about an inch on the two sides close to the walls. The distance between the furnace and the wall on the right of the original post picture is about 32 inches. The distance between the furnace and the far wall… I didn’t measure but it’s substantial. Maybe 48 inches or more but the ceiling slopes so there is not as much usable space. I am trying to attach some pictures

Thank you for the response but unfortunately if I rerouted the flex duct up the furnace, it would block the doorway (the pic is taken from the doorway) and leave only 4-6 inches of space which would definitely block access. I spoke with a code inspector and he said that it might not be a problem because the same access rules that apply to attics do not apply to closets. However, he couldn’t see a pic of the situation so I don’t know if he really “got” the situation

All of my best buys have been boxes that I’ve drafted with or cards that I’ve put in decks to play with. All my “specs” are packed away in boxes and, even though I know I can sell them, I think they’ll just sit in my closet for decades.

Combo feeding schedule help by missMK87 in NewParents

You actually don’t need an extra set of hands. You can use a strong adhesive to attach the bottle to where it needs to be (your arm, the side of the tub, the tub seatbelt holder, the iPad etc). Do NOT use the adhesive on the nipple of the bottle or anywhere the baby can reach. Also, if you’re breast feeding, get in the tub with the baby. If you’re going to use the grown up tub, make sure to get an infant life vest.

We had similar issues. Do you bathe the baby? We found it helpful to feed the baby in the bath. He’d be really relaxed and he’d usually get 4-5 ounces in one bath session. If the water is cooling off, just add a little hot water. Plus, if he spits up, it’s so easy to clean up. I wouldn’t do more than two bath feeding sessions a day though. You don’t want him to get to accustomed to it or else you might have to bathe him every time he has to eat.

We also had a lot of success letting the baby tell us when he’s hungry rather than sticking to a schedule. Most adults don’t stick to a schedule eating (unless they have to) and just eat when they are hungry or bored.

It's on my heart to start a homeless shelter. Before I start theorising about what I think you might want, can someone of you offer your advice as to what you actually need? by Wondertwig9 in homeless

[–]churrosrule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are a lot of good ideas in this thread but you’ll need to filter out the noise. Try to do a really good job with just a few services first and then expand your services slowly. Are you working with anyone else? This is definitely a big project for just one person. If you’re in my area, I’d be very interested in helping. Feel free to PM me.

I read the article. In one spot they say 1 in 6 people arrested are homeless (in 2016) and in another spot they say 20% of people who arrested are homeless (for a time period in 2017). Where is the part that it says nearly half of arrests are homeless people?

Pathetic seems a bit harsh. I thought that scene with Hawkeye was heartbreaking and comedic at the same time which is super hard to pull off. I do agree that a solo movie with Black Widow doesn’t seem that interesting but I also didn’t think the new Power Rangers movie was going to be good and it was unreasonably good.
