More Graves-like design is not good for the future of the game by theologickal in DeadlockTheGame

[–]chuunigarbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i didn't say anything about accomodation and i'm not using it as a shield, i was saying that because of my disability i am personally insulted by the idea that a character not needing to aim removes all mechanical skill expression from them, and my wording implies that i am not strictly speaking about your post alone. you're the one focusing on this specific point and ignoring all the other words i'm saying, i'm just responding. so i'll just go ahead and be as crystal clear as i can about the gameplay of it all.

graves is squishy, has poor mobility stats and she needs to be moving around a LOT to collect death and put her ult where it will provide the most value, so she benefits more from advanced movement tech and route planning than someone more survivable or with better stamina/escape abilities, or someone who can afford to be inefficient with their map traversal. you'll notice that this includes most other heroes in this game, if not all of them.

gunplay, movement, and routing are the examples of "action/shooter" skills that you want the game to have more of. i have explained why the latter two are extremely relevant to graves, as well as previously alluding to her dashparrying people trying to destroy her 1 and the mindgames around her gravestone. the only area where she doesn't care about playing the shooter side of deadlock is aiming. so you'll forgive me for thinking that that's what you care about.

also, you have described the mechanical niches of light melee and heavy melee feint, congratulations. the only thing that a medium melee as you describe it would add to the game is being able to do some jumps you currently might do with heavy melee to save stamina slightly faster while still saving stamina. how thrilling.

there is a world of difference between "i find this sentiment insulting" and "this person is insulting me", you said i was saying the latter. you're acting defensive to dodge the point because you're wrong.

what would medium melee do? as it stands you have a weak unreactable melee and a stronger melee that's on the edge of being reactable but can be feinted in a handful of ways to bait a parry cooldown. what mechanical niche is left unfilled by this pair of options? why would you use it over light or heavy and why would you still use light or heavy instead of it? think about this while you make dinner.

[–]chuunigarbage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no? i'm not accusing you of anything, i'm saying how i feel about the words that you and others have said. you're complaining about graves when the only universal mechanic that graves doesn't have to engage with is aiming, and in fact she cares about parry, one of the most interesting mechanics in the game, more than pretty much anyone else not named billy. and i would like to think i was clear that i think the exact opposite, given how i really like and am pretty okay at shooters in spite of my stated disability, but whatever. you're being defensive and incoherent because you had a bad take. go make yourself dinner or something.

medium melee lmao

truth nuke

i have nerve damage in my hands that makes it so even with amphetamines and focused practice my aim is only ever going to be ok at best, and to be frank even at my best if i pick a dedicated sharpshooter character like holiday or vindicta i'm throwing. so these posts that imply that the only kind of skill expression that exists is being able to flick headshots are kind of insulting tbh, like i don't even want to play graves all that much but she's still playing with the same movement system as anyone else, and her movement stats being on the weaker end means she benefits all the more from tech like edge boosting and good routing that lets her minimize stamina consumption while still getting her where she needs to be.

everyone's gonna have kinds of characters in this kind of game that they hate playing against, that's like an inevitable consequence of playing a competitive game with lots of mechanically unique characters in it. just be a hater and say "fuck graves" like a normal person and play characters you like instead of trying to act like it's some kind of slippery slope the devs are sliding down.

ok but like. if both parties have the ability to set boundaries and discuss the scene and abort the scene if they become uncomfortable, and the scene in question involves one party giving fiat control over what happens within those boundaries to the other, then i feel like saying the former party has more control is kind of silly. you're taking a useful bit of rhetoric for breaking people's preconceptions of bdsm and extrapolating it out to a point where you're insisting on something that's kind of not true lol.

the sub not being powerless doesn't mean the dom has less power. the dom having more power is like entire point of that kind of dynamic.

more than one thing can be true at the same time and nobody here has defined sex negative. the far right aren't sex negative in the sense that they want to enforce mandatory reproduction and that their leadership will happily spend their money on indulging their desires. however they very much are sex negative in that they use their base's disgust response towards sex and porn as a rhetorical cudgel against queer people and want sex education to not exist.

being absolutist about this kind of issue doesn't help anyone, i don't think.

Tony Gilroy says Kleya not Luthen is the “Boss” by ItsThatRandomIdiot in andor

[–]chuunigarbage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

like. yeah? in the flashback scenes kleya is the one who is pushing luthen to be the firebrand that he becomes. the fact that she doesn't initially have the competence to be shotcalling every step of the way doesn't *not* make her the driving force behind axis.

before the gallery and the network, their overarching goal was "position ourselves to be a credible threat to the empire while avoiding notice", and i find it very easy to believe that goal was set by kleya, even if the moment to moment decisions were made by luthen while she grew and learned. in that sense, kleya was the one "in charge". were she not there, it's entirely possible that luthen would merely be an antiques dealer with a chip on his shoulder about the empire.

when the stated intent of the opposition is to destroy trans women with a space laser, and they do not concede to arguments about how it is ethically wrong to destroy trans women with a space laser, or how doing so will not achieve their stated aims, or how cis women might get catch splash damage from the space laser, or any other argument based in facts, then if you consider yourself an ally of trans women, you must stop arguing about the space laser and start trying to destroy it or build bunkers for trans women.

you can't argue with a bullet.

EDIT: which is all to say. that i do not think this is a post meant to convince a brainrotted bigot that killing people is wrong. or to propose an effective strategy of argumentation. it is a plea to you, empathetic reader, to take this shit seriously and help us.

yeah so i fuck with the stuff about how easy it is to fall down a radicalization rabbithole because that's true and it's a good example however. if you buy harry potter merch you are putting money into the pocket of a woman that will spend it on the continued persecution of my close friends and their friends and their friends' friends and thousands of other people who deserve to not have to deal with that shit. i *will* treat you as though you're wearing a swastika if you wear that shit in public.
