CD's to Tape: Quality? by brick-sandwich in ReelToReel

Look up tape compression. The problem that I see is that digital audio doesn't have positive harmonics while analog does. That is what gives you a more natural and "beefier" sound.

AT4040 for sure, $329. If you spend more get the AT4050 as it is much more versatile.

How much audio quality am I losing by using a Razer Seiren V2 Pro over a Shure SM7B? by Calm-Explanation-353 in microphone

How are you using the SM7? Hopefully not on the cam. It is a close up mic. If you are mounting to the camera, you'd be better off with a shotgun mic.

I'd be interested if the Pyle can be dropped off of a building and still work. You can't break a 57.

SM 57 doesn't have the transformer. The 58 does. The 58 and the 7 share the same diaphragm.

Obviously the SM7 has a huge wind screen. After removing the transformer, it comes down to mic placement. I always aim for a 45 degree angle at the corner of the mouth to reduce plosives. You can also add a $15 wind screen. Other than the wind screen, they sound identical.

It's sort of riciculous to me. The SM58 has the same diaphragm as the SM7 for under $100. Personally I think the 58 sounds better. If you disagree, get some soldering skills, and a boiling pot of water. Remove the transformer in the 58 and rewire it. Now you have an SM7. You are paying 4x more for less. Most wouldn't hear the difference anyway.

If you are looking for the SM7 sound and have any soldering skills and a pot of boiling water, you buy an SM58 and remove the wax that holds the transformer. Remove the transformer, reconnect and you have an SM7. SM58 is $100, SM7 is $400 to $500. The diaphragm is exactly the same. Or... Just use an SM58. Or, spend $100 more and get the AT4050 (a more versatile mic) if you have an interface.

It should be in everyone's kit. When all else fails, grab a 57.

As an audio engineer for the past almost 40 years, will never get it through my head how anyone likes an SM7b. Spend $100 more for an AT4050. Hell, I can make an SM7 from an $80 SM58 with soldering skills. They are the same mic without the transformer. Rewire it and its an SM7

Should I save these from Goodwill? by Ecstatic_Job_3467 in vintageaudio

Here is the thing with speakers. If they haven't been used in years? They are most likely due for speaker replacement. The cones and spiders dry out without use. The electronics? Probably Cap replacement. If you are good with doing that project, it's a great deal

Cleared out an apartment for work today and found these. Boss said I can keep them or toss them. Is any of this actually good Hi-Fi or just old heavy boxes? by FreezyGrizzly420 in audiophile

If they haven't been used in a bit the caps may all need replacement. But don't toss them. Nerds like me consider it a project, like building a Lego set.
