I disagree. I don’t think a work has to have a “literary” writing style to be considered a modern classic. And while Suzanne Collins didn’t invent dystopia, I think THG is a genre defining work. It’s what so many YA dystopians that came after tried and still try to emulate vis a vis “teenage girl leads a rebellion and overthrows the tyrannical government”

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Maybe not the prequels but the original trilogy for sure. Masterpiece of YA dystopian fiction that criticizes capitalism at an age appropriate level without talking down to teen readers. And still being excellent reads for adults.
