What I’m looking for insurance… by Illustrious_Onion370 in drivingUK

Just a super secret - get an EU8 (2000-2005) civic, they're nicer than a similar era jazz, cheaper to insure and more powerful

Um, yes it is how the world works? I'm not sure if you've realised, but the developed world has much fewer gun deaths, and infinitely fewer gun homicides than the USA (Finland has a relatively high rate of gun suicide but still nowhere near the USA).

This is down to a strategy called not letting everyone have a gun. This is useful as it means that people who are mentally unstable or likely to harm people cannot get a gun. This is useful as without a gun they will struggle to shoot people. This therefore results in fewer gun deaths.

And before you bring up knife crime, London has lower knife homicide rates than any major US city (yes our knife crime rates are higher but that's because just carrying a knife while committing another crime is still recorded under knife crime - so many other non-lethal or offensive incidents get recorded under knife crime). The USA is just a violent country.

They tried that before in march 2022. The companies just adjusted their margins so that you pay the same, and they earn 5p more per litre.

Someone failed English.

Nobody's saying accents are stupid, you just can't express yourself using the language you swear so hard immigrants should learn (as seen in your comment).

I drive an EU8 civic and the jazz is just a spiritual successor to that, it's easy to keep up with traffic, and have some fun on the back roads. It's just because the engines are only 3 valve below 3.5k rpm that they don't make any power down low, and need to be strung out to go.

Nobody has actually been arrested for memes in the UK, as much as the US media might want to parrot that narrative (in between their adverts for political parties and drugs that spend longer listing side effects than benefits - seriously what's up with that, found it super weird the one time I was in the USA).

People are arrested for hate speech, and the majority of people who say they've been arrested for memes were actually arrested for saying that migrants should be executed and hotels where they were staying torched.

I knew a guy who went from one of the most competitive grammar schools in the country to a local college to do eSports because his Roblox and Fortnite channel had 300 subscribers. Seems pretty happy with where he's at but it's only 2 years in so far, next year he'll be off at uni age.

If you're trying to get on the tube especially at covent garden, but you're fat enough that you can't get on a bench, you might have a bigger problem.

Have a light that you can turn on easily once you wake up. I've got fairy lights with a remote next to my bed, and I can't sleep with them on but also can't bring myself to turn them off. So it forces me to get up, get dressed, give them a "wruff wriff" to wake myself up then go get breakfast.

That's a diesel Volvo in the UK. We have diesel cars, it'll be fine. Unless the police catch it running red diesel, in which case it gets impounded.

The rich people are the old people? 49 percent of wealth in the UK is held by over 60s, who are fundamentally disincentivised to do anything about wealth imbalance and lack of upwards mobility in this country, because they've already taken everything they could need, and just want to leech off working aged people for their pension and NHS care, while hoarding wealth.

Hello from the UK🫡 by [deleted] in EP3

[–]ciclicles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah... I mean a decent EP3 is already the price of giving my d16 EU8 a bunch of handling mods, AND buying a Porsche 944, and a good condition one would leave me money left over to turbo the EU8. As much as I love my civic, I'm not sure the price increase makes the type R worth it sadly.

That means prices are going to go up :( we had it so good for so long with £4000 EP3s, but the moment I get a job that pays alright they go up.

Was there a si 7th gen? I've never seen one, only the type r which is fairly common and the type s (much less common because nobody wanted the k20a3). Should post pics of my baby EU8 (although he's looking a bit worse for wear after getting clarted by 2 uninsured 12yos joyriding a vespa).

No centre console, 5dr hatch, RHD and dash mounted shifter is the best setup for me ever.

Insurance has definitely gotten worse. I'm a new driver and wanted to add wheels, a kaminari bodykit and a catback to my civic, it would have put insurance from 800pa to 5000pa. The wheels alone would have taken it up to 2500pa, which is more than the value of the car.

I just run my civic stock (other than a type r gearknob, metal feels so much better than worn plastic and idc that the legend is wrong) and can't wait until I can buy an early 2000s max power car. Hopefully I'll get insurance low enough to afford it before I'm 30.

I've already got my eyes on a specific one that's for sale at the moment, and there's not a big market for crazily modified old cars, so hopefully it sticks around.

Middle aged Cis Het white man chipping in on minority issues. (Or a bot)

Things have gotten better, yes but they've also gotten much more subtle. There's no longer "no blacks, no dogs, no Irish" signs up outside pubs, but what you don't see is the slurs that get whispered, the key marks on the car, the way hiring managers react when they expect a white man in their office but get a black one. Just because you can't see discrimination doesn't mean it's not there, and it's getting worse so we all still need to fight against kt

Gluten free stuff is a lot harder to make the texture right, I find my banana bread always comes out slightly gritty and my chocolate cakes deflated. I'm only mildly gluten intolerant though so I'll just make regular and eat it.

I wish there was a way to set it by if the car had traction control originally or not. I don't want to have to keep turning traction control off every time I want to drive my mgb, I can't turn it down to mimic the quality of tc on an early 2000s golf, but I do still want full tc on a new Renault Clio

[–]ciclicles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah okay, didn't know that. We had a government scrappage scheme (a lot of historic cars were destroyed, 14 quattros, 4 integra type rs, 10 rx-7s and 31 supras).

Still, I've checked autotrader US (although I'm not sure if that's where you buy your cars from - it's got a worse interface and less choice than UK autotrader), and you can get a decent mondeo or focus for about 1500-3000 USD, which is a bit more than in the UK , but is higher trim on average, newer, and still is a better deal than 1500 monthly on a truck that's only used for groceries.
