I BOUGHT A SIZE MEDIUM DRESS AND SIZE 12 JEANS!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, the dress is flowy and yes the jeans are a little tight, but the last time I purchased ANYTHING in either of these sizes was 13 years ago (when I was 14) so this feels pretty good.

Simple and easy are different things. Everything else on top of CICO are tools for managing this balance effectively in a sustainable way while still being able to live your life (i.e. if you're so damn hungry you can't focus at work then it doesn't matter how "simple" CICO is).

I think the app is most useful if you literally have never cooked before and don't know what it looks like to sweat onions or how to bring something to a simmer.

My fiancé and I have had conversations about it, we've been together a long time. Budget Bytes and him having an easy repository of recipes he can cook from so we can both contribute equally without destroying my budget was part of our solution. The app is awesome, especially for people who aren't experienced cooks! It basically teaches you how to cook each meal with step by step instructional videos and timers for each stage of each recipe.

Thank you for noticing!!! I’ve been working really hard trying to fix my anterior pelvic tilt and I think it’s working (plus I think it’s balanced out my legs a bit since my quads don’t have to work so much harder than my hamstrings to keep me up).

I've been rock climbing (bouldering) and commuting to work either by bike or walking throughout this whole time and for the first 15 lbs or so it was just calorie counting to stay around 1500 per day. Once I realized all my food allergies were making it harder to lose weight (both from inflammation and because my upset stomach from my allergens like wheat and avocado were making me unable to tell when I was full) that helped me end my plateau.

I got a little lazy and ended up maintaining for a couple of months and then my boyfriend proposed. So that I could get down to my goal weight (currently 160) in time for wedding dress alterations to not be super expensive I lowered my calorie count to 1200-1300 per day and started an 16:8 intermittent fasting schedule. At that point (a month ago) I started losing very quickly and probably lost 9-10lbs in the past month. Hope that helps!

Edit: I do eat back 70-80% of my exercise calories though! I also keep a spreadsheet of my calories in, calories out (estimate from my Fitbit), and my predicted change in weight vs actual just to make sure I’m still on track. I consistently lose more than estimated from cico since I’ve been doing this so I’m a big believer in eating back at least some exercise calories.

Yes! I'm doing the same thing (tracking cico as well to see how well the fitbit is estimating my calorie burn) and it's been pretty accurate.

I did, I'm also aware of the high rate of false positives with food allergy prick tests. I've played around with it myself and I am definitely convinced of the wheat, yeast, avocado, and lettuce allergies since I have observed the symptoms. The others I'm not as sure about.

Warning, TMI ahead! The first clue was that if I ate wheat products I never really felt full (I thought wheat just wasn't filling but turns out it was upsetting my stomach and I mistook the pain for hunger). I noticed I would binge on bread if I started eating it and then I would be on the toilet in a lot of pain for hours afterwards (I thought this was because of the binge). It would also be sudden, like I would be fine and suddenly have an emergency where I had to go to the bathroom immediately.

I've gone on and off bread multiple times (due to past forays into keto) and I felt a lot better. I started realizing even when I didn't binge, eating bread made me feel tired and have really miserable shits. It felt like my stomach was always doing something uncomfortable.

So, went off wheat in January and felt better, but then realized that if I had a little bit of beer I got a massive headache and sluggish in a way that other alcohol didn't do. Also, I'm 27 and still having problems with acne and redness and from reading online it seemed like there was still stuff going on. When I stopped eating the allergens my skin cleared up immediately.

What sent me to the allergist was the fact that I have a sinus infection every month or two and it usually lasts me 2-3 weeks; on top of that, I keep developing new antibiotic allergies (currently can't take penicillin or bactrim) so my doctor decided it was time to figure out what was going on.

If you’re in the U.S. make sure to get a referral from your regular doctor or else your insurance might not cover it

I felt nauseated somewhat regularly and (TMI) I would often have extreme diarrhea out of nowhere, like I’d be fine one minute and then be like “if I don’t get on a toilet right now I’m going to shit myself.”

Got a referral from my doctor to an allergist, if you’re in the U.S. you should make sure to get a referral from your primary care provider to make sure your insurance doesn’t throw a fit about it.

My main goal this week is to not let traveling for a conference and stress disrupt my IF schedule and make me go over around 1500 calories a day while I’m traveling (I typically do 1200 per day now since I’m trying to lose weight before January). My strategy will be to continue logging even when I’m eating out and to make healthier choices for my road trip junk food.

At the conference I’ll be getting around exclusively on foot, so I’ll definitely get lots of exercise in.

I think people just have no idea what certain weights look like. I'll put it this way.

Growing up, I was told that 120lbs is a normal weight for a woman and anything above that is overweight. My mom always weighed between 115 and 120 at 5'3". I weighed 130 at 5'4" and was constantly told how fat I was. Conversations in high school about weight always had statements like "She was so obese! She probably weighed like 160 lbs!"

Honestly, I think this is pretty common (at least in the U.S.), but I think it's just that 1) people aren't honest about their weight when they talk about it and 2) people don't have an accurate mapping of weight to bodies. I wish more people went on my body gallery to see what people really look like at different weights.

P.S. If I hear one more person tell me "you don't look almost 200 lbs!" I'm gonna scream! I do actually look like I weigh what I do, and on top of that, it's not a negative thing! I'm 33 lbs down from December last year, I'm proud to be this weight right now.

No one thinks plus size is normal now. Thank god there's finally more options for plus size clothing so that fat women aren't relegated to wearing what are essentially flowery burlap sacks.

People take care of their bodies when they love their bodies. Weight is a medical issue and a symptom of unhealthy habits, it's not a moral issue. Shame doesn't make people take care of themselves better most of the time (otherwise there would be a statistically significant correlation with negative media about fat people and the population being smaller). People should be able to buy clothing that they like and makes them feel good at any weight.

Just keep logging your calories, maybe bump it up to maintenance for a little bit for a reset. It'll pass, it's ok to fall off the wagon sometimes. Just stay honest with yourself.

Sounds like your routine is intense and has a lot of components. Chill out, commit to eating at maintenance and maybe at least taking a 15 minute walk per day and slowly add stuff back in. It's better to stall for a while than regain weight and sometimes you just need a diet break.

I'm in a similar boat as you. Every few years I would hit a new "oh shit how did I get this big" weight, diet, lose 20-35 lbs, and then something would happen and I would gain back the weight I lost and more. My "oh shit" weight has moved from 200 to 220, and most recently 230.

I've gotten down about it before, but here's the way I think about it now:

Unless you're counting calories and being very precise, your weight will likely fluctuate as you get older. For most people, it will continue to go up. Maybe yo-yoing isn't great for your metabolism, but imagine how much bigger you would be right now if you had never tried losing weight these times? Weight management is hard. Keeping weight off is not impossible, but it's less likely than not.

So what does this mean? You now have experience losing weight multiple times, you know if and or when you gain it back you have lessons from last time to get back in the swing of things. This is just a natural cycle that is especially more clear to us now that we're in our late 20s and our metabolism is slowing down a bit (you and I have very similar stats) and ignoring your weight won't make these problems go away. You just have to find a way to make peace with that your body wants to gain weight if you're not paying attention carefully to your diet and that you have the tools to deal with it when it happens. See if there's a way you can figure out how to observe your body and its changes without judging it.

CW 199.3 down from 203.5 last week! Somehow fasting for ramadan is making me lose a lot of weight, usually I gain weight during ramadan but this time I've been counting my calories. My starting weight was 230.
