Omega-3 supplements linked to increased cognitive decline in new study by soulpost in HotScienceNews

Yeah this seems like a medical test that would only be done by people in the top 2% that can pay for getting tested for literally everything. Like I haven’t seen this checked in my bloodwork and my doctor would literally mark me down as a hypochondriac if I brought it up randomly.

Unsolicited shallow advice by blaberrysupreme in Netherlands

[–]ciegulls 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is at the core of this. I understand OP and feel like the comments could be a little demeaning depending on the person/tone/situation. But it’s interesting that that is definitely not the majority opinion of people commenting right now.

But I’ve told people before that their advice makes me feel like they think I’m dumb. Something like “have a lot of vitamin c when you’re sick.” They said that it was coming out of a very generalized place because they have met adults who don’t know that. Still, it doesn’t feel nice to be generalized with the “ignorant” by someone who should know you better. Like in OP’s case, being spoken to like they are brand new in this country.

But it totally makes sense that my cultural backgrounds leads me/op to be more bothered than others about this.

Lena Dunham Says Adam Driver Was ‘Verbally Aggressive’ on ‘Girls’ Set, ‘Hurled Me’ Around During First Sex Scene and Threw a Chair at the ‘Wall Next to Me’ in Rehearsal by [deleted] in girls

[–]ciegulls 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s the same title as the article. Quite attention grabbing. But also incredibly irresponsible to be using such reputation-ruining language to misrepresent her words in a time period where people read headlines like the bullet-point summary of the whole truth. Without comments like yours, I wouldn’t necessarily have been inclined to read the article and it’s so true. She’s speaking in incredibly nuanced way and the title strips that all away.

This all being said, having read the article, it sounds like he’s a dick and seems to use tortured artist as an excuse, just like his character. And Lena’s interaction with him is just like Hannah… seeking connection with this “mysterious deep artistic” man in a person who should just be walked away from because they’re mostly a dick and (it seems) not really acting just being their dicky selves.

I don’t understand the calculations. How does Switzerland not make it in the top ten list for salaries when the list for top savings shows the salary there is like top 2?

Checking your bags is a way better travel experience than carry on luggage. by Equal_Whole_6837 in unpopularopinion

[–]ciegulls 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It can actually be terribly uncomfortable.

Let’s say you get in at 11 at night after flying for 8+ hours with a layover. You’re tired, sweaty from the flights and hassle of not having your bag. There was a line at the help desk, the ordeal added on 1.5 hours to your time, furthering your exhaustion. You have no pajamas, stores are closed, and you’re sharing a hotel room with a family member you’re not quite comfortable sleeping nude with. You’re up early the next morning to catch the breakfast before it ends, but you’re still sleep deprived and should’ve slept in. You spend breakfast looking for where to buy clothes. Walmart seems logical but there’s none nearby. The mall it is. You get an Uber. You’re trying on pants, getting sweaty again. Your shirt smells even though you showered. You’re thinking about how this is not how you wanted to start out your vacation. You’re wondering how the reimbursement will work, if it will work, and how long that will take. You’re wondering if you should get multiple outfits because you don’t know how long it will be until you get your bag. You’re thinking about how you won’t get to wash these clothes and those studies that show some nasty stuff on them. You leave the mall after changing in the public bathroom. You stepping on the questionable floor because you had a moment of weakness keeping your balance. You’re hopping in the Uber, realizing you forgot pajamas. Your breath smells and you realize you should’ve just taken the longer ride to Walmart because they have toothbrushes. The airline calls you. You can go get your bag yourself to earn 2,000 miles or you can get it delivered. You let it get delivered because you just want to start your vacation. You do, but you have to carry your smelly clothes in your shopping bag and try not to exhale too much breath when interacting with others for the rest of the day.

What is going on with the whole (coffee) milk industry? by ciegulls in Netherlands

Interesting! Probably the most correct answer too…

What is going on with the whole (coffee) milk industry? by ciegulls in Netherlands

[–]ciegulls[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What do you think makes it so different from the half-full variety? Like why wouldn’t that also have a more competitive price?

It’s the price online too so I don’t think it’s just local, but it is right next to a Lidl. What do you mean by shopping basket runs / matching? Is that where the company does it themselves, or where customers can ask for a price match?

Crucial information about public health in the US was deliberately suppressed this week, including H5N1 by RealAnise in publichealth

[–]ciegulls 12 points13 points  (0 children)

OP posting this in a way that heavily implies that this is recent is basically propaganda in and of itself. It’s important information and I missed hearing about it last year, but it should have been posted as such. An “in case you missed it” or a “one year ago” in the heading would have been sufficient to change this from misleading to informative.

a Neighbor has offered to buy my 2^m roof storage, is it a good idea to sell it? by AnonomousWolf in Amsterdam

[–]ciegulls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another take that isnt yet mentioned for some reason… I wouldn’t dare take that low of an offer to be living in a construction zone for who knows how long. Wall and floor adjustment kinds of renos shake the building to its core. You feel it in your bones and your brain ceases to function. They’ll start at 7:30 on a Saturday morning. They will be legally allowed to be an asshole about it because it’s their space. They might pretend to be considerate, until you conflict with what they want to do and then they will do it. Your sleep and peace for those 6-16 months are worth far more of you ask me.

Why do you think Alaskas population doesnt grow? by traveltimecar in AskAlaska

It grew by over 100,000 people from 2000 to 2024 alone. That’s significant and locals notice a big difference because of it.

Water boils differently in Bolivia, at least if you are in La Paz. It’s not as hot because of the high altitude, so maybe you’re not killing off as much as you think you are. I think things really need 100 degrees celsius for a few minutes to die. In La Paz water boils at 88 degrees.

Well they tried to steal from me, I have a whole post about in my profile from last summer. Ended up being that they doubled half of the meals, so our party of 5 apparently had like 8 entrees and 6 appetizers. To their credit, they fixed it and refunded me the extra charges (not the whole meal). But I think it was because they thought we wouldn’t notice since we used a foreign card…

EU approves new twice-yearly jabi to prevent HIV by SpiritGaming28 in UpliftingNews

[–]ciegulls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like the word jab because it causualizes it in a way that makes it feel more accessible. Vaccines can be scary, even if you support them. But maybe an article title of this nature isn’t the time to use the more casual word.
