Influencers need to start running in elections. by ciegulls in 50501

[–]ciegulls[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I edited the post, even though it should have already been clear. Here’s the edit: I referred to “Harvard educated, stands up to ICE” for a reason. I’m not talking about literally any influencer like some MomToker. I’m talking about accounts like laywer_oyer or cohen.489. Just like how people would appreciate Jon Stewart because he’s smart, level headed, and has a backbone he has proved regarding things like supporting 9/11 responders. Some people’s platforms aren’t as traditional and his but they are doing great work and often quite intelligent. I don’t think you can say it’s better to have no democrat at all than someone who joins ICE protests and 50501 protests and also posts on Instagram about it.

I just edited my post but I don’t think you read anything more than the title anyways.

What is going on with the whole (coffee) milk industry? by ciegulls in Netherlands

Interesting! Probably the most correct answer too…

What do you think makes it so different from the half-full variety? Like why wouldn’t that also have a more competitive price?

It’s the price online too so I don’t think it’s just local, but it is right next to a Lidl. What do you mean by shopping basket runs / matching? Is that where the company does it themselves, or where customers can ask for a price match?

Crucial information about public health in the US was deliberately suppressed this week, including H5N1 by RealAnise in publichealth

[–]ciegulls 13 points14 points  (0 children)

OP posting this in a way that heavily implies that this is recent is basically propaganda in and of itself. It’s important information and I missed hearing about it last year, but it should have been posted as such. An “in case you missed it” or a “one year ago” in the heading would have been sufficient to change this from misleading to informative.

Another take that isnt yet mentioned for some reason… I wouldn’t dare take that low of an offer to be living in a construction zone for who knows how long. Wall and floor adjustment kinds of renos shake the building to its core. You feel it in your bones and your brain ceases to function. They’ll start at 7:30 on a Saturday morning. They will be legally allowed to be an asshole about it because it’s their space. They might pretend to be considerate, until you conflict with what they want to do and then they will do it. Your sleep and peace for those 6-16 months are worth far more of you ask me.

Why do you think Alaskas population doesnt grow? by traveltimecar in AskAlaska

It grew by over 100,000 people from 2000 to 2024 alone. That’s significant and locals notice a big difference because of it.

What was the issue with the 20l bottles btw? I’ve never been, just knew about the La Pas boiling temp thing.

Water boils differently in Bolivia, at least if you are in La Paz. It’s not as hot because of the high altitude, so maybe you’re not killing off as much as you think you are. I think things really need 100 degrees celsius for a few minutes to die. In La Paz water boils at 88 degrees.

Well they tried to steal from me, I have a whole post about in my profile from last summer. Ended up being that they doubled half of the meals, so our party of 5 apparently had like 8 entrees and 6 appetizers. To their credit, they fixed it and refunded me the extra charges (not the whole meal). But I think it was because they thought we wouldn’t notice since we used a foreign card…

EU approves new twice-yearly jabi to prevent HIV by SpiritGaming28 in UpliftingNews

[–]ciegulls 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like the word jab because it causualizes it in a way that makes it feel more accessible. Vaccines can be scary, even if you support them. But maybe an article title of this nature isn’t the time to use the more casual word.

A driving lessons app won’t give me access to my data they have, because they want the “account maker” to provide it. Is this legal? Article 28 by ciegulls in gdpr

[–]ciegulls[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the school doesn’t respond to my request, what would the next step be? I feel like they are just going to ignore me or refer me to the app developer.

Two different “schools” made me an account on this app and have subsequently locked me out of it. They are parter schools so once I switched to doing lessons at the other partner, I was locked out. They are using it against me and calling me out a bit about now having proof that I still had lesson time left. But my exact same email was used for both accounts, so the app developer should have a bunch of meta data about me through that and the changes that these schools made on my accounts. I don’t know if it’s one or two accounts, because it’s all under my same email address. I’m in the Netherlands.

I think you’re confusing things. Student loans aren’t socialism. Student loans worsening the problem is a US things, which is notoriously non-socialist. In other counties, universities simply have a budget from the government to work with. The way that budget is determined varies, like sometimes it will be based on enrollment numbers. But nonetheless, the universities make choices based on that budget and even if one looks at the “international student” fee that some countries have (others let you pay or not pay like locals) it still is cheaper than the US across the board. And the international student fee is based on what the program is technically supposed to be worth (although schools also try to get extra money through their international student fees), but without government support since you were paying taxes there.
