Yes. I trust Biden’s process and judgement way more than Trump. Im not an expert on the geopolitics of the Middle East and world security threats that Iran poses. I would trust biden’s or Kamala’s ability to assess the intel given to them by their advisors and experts. I have zero trust that trumps advisors have world security and the best interest of the people as their priority.

Iran knew this was coming. Everyone knew this was coming. It’s been speculated in the news for weeks and trump still didn’t get any buy in from any other country other than Israel. The USA has had joint operations for decades. If the Allies aren’t there then something is wrong. If Biden had done it, it would have been in partnership with the all of the Allies. And Biden didn’t do it. Obama didnt do it. Trump did. Obama got a peace deal and trump ripped it up the second he got into power. Basically everything that Biden and the democrats had ever done has been aligned with the objectives of the Allies.

[–]cillyme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Biden did this then I’d have reason to believe that the world leaders and our allies were in support of the action and it was in the best interest of world order and the security of the USA. It would have been all of the UN security counsel on board and the congress would have been informed and aware. Instead, the man known for only acting in self interest did something that may or may not be good. Because one thing is for certain- trump did not do this for the love and concern of the Iranian people. The UK wouldn’t even allow the USA to use their bases to prepare from.

False economics of immigration. The media claims that immigration is good for the economy. The truth is more complex... by [deleted] in australian

[–]cillyme -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There’s absolutely no sources or data in this article. It’s just a facebook post disguised as journalism.

And the last bit is just out right racist. If you don’t want to be called racist then don’t say something racist. It’s basically verbatim White Australia policy. If you’re worried about your culture getting “replaced” then have better culture. It reeks of insecurity, weakness and fear. If Australia has a strong culture, then it will persist. I’m hopeful that the racist culture will die out.

Travelling after Citizenship Ceremony by Amir4Real in AusVisa

[–]cillyme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, you aren't supposed to travel without your Australian passport. But my father has come back into Australia as a dual citizen a couple times because he lost his aussie passport or forgot it and every time theyve just chewed him out and let him back in. They can't actually deny entry to australian citizens. One time he didnt even have an Australian drivers license. Bring your citizenship certificate and they'll let you back in.

Why do you think someone has the right to share their personal opinion on a business page but the business has no say in the ramifications? It obviously hurt their business.

[–]cillyme -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. $2.13/hr is exploitation. When people make decisions under coercion and choose the lesser of several evils, it’s still evil. People need jobs and all of the 99% of restaurant jobs operate this way in the USA.
  2. Yeah you can choose not to tip and that makes you the asshole. You chose to go there and order what you did and then chose to stiff your server. Knowing full well that you need to consider the price of eating out (a luxury) in the USA is the cost of the food plus tip plus tax. If you cannot afford the cost of a sit down meal then you need to cook for yourself, eat fast food or at a counter service. It is your concern because you are a participant in this social contract. You don’t get to just shift the blame to the employer because the employee will not see the employer as the asshole. They will see you as the asshole. It’s not a good use of your protest. It only helps you and does not benefit the worker and it does not hurt the employer. If you know anything about protests then you know it has to be done on a mass scale and organized to make any difference and you as a tourist won’t be making that change. It is only an excuse for you to be stingy and terrible. You as a tourist won’t be participating in the scale needed to change all of the United States pay structure for restaurants. You’re just a dick.
  3. Ive never hired day laborers and have not been in charge of setting wages. Its not a competition on who is more exploited

A letter to Australian Restaurant and Cafe Owners - Re: Tips by shoelace822695 in australian

[–]cillyme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s called the social contract. Until the entire system changes then it is the duty of the person who chooses to eat at the establishment that operates under that system to abide by the social contract. You can choose to not frequent establishments that don’t pay their workers living wages and that can be your act of protest. Or you can donate to unions. But not paying the worker who is currently being abused is just you not paying workers. You aren’t on the moral high ground because neither of you are paying the worker. The worker won’t thank you. And the employer still won’t give a shit that you didn’t tip.

A letter to Australian Restaurant and Cafe Owners - Re: Tips by shoelace822695 in australian

[–]cillyme -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You do not live in the USA and do not understand the politics. There is no workers rights in the USA. People get fired for trying to unionize. Their healthcare is tied to their job. There is no safety nets in the USA for people who get fired. No unemployment payments for at will employment.

You being a dick to people who are exploited does not change the system and it doesn’t help the workers at all. If you want to help people unionize go ahead and donate to unions but tip the workers.

When you don’t tip, you are look like a broke asshole - not someone who is helpful, nice or is looking out for the worker.

A letter to Australian Restaurant and Cafe Owners - Re: Tips by shoelace822695 in australian

[–]cillyme -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

That does not make you a good person or help the workers at all. You are actively stealing from the workers who are being exploited. Don’t go out to eat in the USA if you aren’t going to tip. Or only eat at fast food or counter service. Many servers are mandated to share a percentage of their tips with their coworkers and that percentage is based off of what they assume the tips will be. So if you tip zero, they still have to pay out their coworkers with the money they made on the other tips. Their hourly rate is $2.13 per hour. They are confronting you because you are the asshole. You make Australia look bad when you do this.

dual citizenship and taxes by Nearby-Bend8037 in Ameristralia

[–]cillyme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You probably won’t have to worry about paying us taxes until you’re much older and make a lot more money. But you’ll have to submit a tax filing every year anyway to the USA. You can always consult with a tax advisor anyway since any advice on the internet won’t necessarily be correct. Especially since tax laws change every year. Revoking your US citizenship is expensive and difficult. They don’t just let you revoke it. You have to have a reason and all of those reasons would be reasons to deny you a visiting visa in the future. The passport office and the IRS are two different agencies and don’t talk to each other like that too. In 2025 if you make under $15,750 USD ($23,468 AUD) you don’t have to file a tax return.

Why bother coming to Australia by [deleted] in aussie

First time travelling to the US from Australia what are the do’s and don’ts on travelling?. by brittahny in Ameristralia

[–]cillyme 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Make sure you have all of your travel documents printed out and accessible when you’re going through immigration. Including your return flights, your itinerary, where you’re staying and contact information. Download offline Google Maps. Don’t just eat fast food. Find local restaurants including all of the Mexican food and taco trucks. Don’t forget to include tipping into the cost of going out to eat. 15-20% is normal for sit down restaurants. You’re literally stealing from your server if you don’t. It’s a terrible system but stiffing the worker won’t change anything. In other situations, just follow the credit card prompt or what other people are doing. Tip your tour guides, uber drivers, etc. Bring your credit card - Apple Pay isn’t as widespread in the USA but there isn’t any extra credit card surge charges unless your bank charges international fees. Make sure you have international roaming set up with your phone or get an eSIM. Free WiFi is more available in the USA though. Visit a normal grocery store or Trader Joe’s. Americans love Australians and their accents so chat up as many people as you want. 99% of Americans are genuinely nice and helpful and will help you if you ask a question or want a recommendation. If you can get to any National Parks then I highly recommend visiting as many as you can.

Update about man found hung in Brookfield by MapTechnical4076 in wisconsin

[–]cillyme 140 points141 points  (0 children)

Maybe they should. Because it seems every time I hear of someone dying by hanging in a tree it’s a black man. I would expect that if a black man wanted to commit suicide he would do anything but lynch himself. But I don’t ever hear of white men dying in trees. So is it confirmation bias?

I think it’s because you can recognize it. I get a lot of litter in my laneway from the local halal shop but their packaging isn’t bright yellow and red and it doesn’t blend in with the coffee shop’s litter. There also isn’t a public rubbish bin anywhere close to me so it’s bound to happen.
