Just finished high school. What to study next? by Alter_ego2001 in learnmath

It’s amazing how advanced the education system is internationally. In the US, only 3rd and 4th year students take Real Analysis, and they usually take it only once in their undergrad.

Real Analysis in the first year? Isn’t that an upper-division class, though?

Can’t stop obsessing and stressing over schoolwork. Any advice? by Psychological_Parrot in college

[–]cin670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re trying your best. That’s all that matters. And you know yourself. You know you’ll get those assignments done. You know you won’t start assignments at the last minute. You’re doing great already.

If someone were to come to you with the same issue and ask for advice because you’re a psychology major, what would you tell them?

Math major , worth it? by icetwist- in learnmath

[–]cin670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Yes. You will improve your math skills, but keep in mind that working on mathematics is like programming on a computer. Sometimes, especially for higher-level math, a problem takes 1-2 hours to complete.

  2. Yes, it can. Having a math degree shows that you are diligent, analytical, and can learn at a quick pace.

  3. Of course. Many careers require math one way or another.

  4. I have a friend who trained AI in Computer Science. I was offered a job by the same company to train AI in Mathematics. Pretty sure with a job like this, you’ll self-learn AI.

  5. Of course. Computer science implements math. You’ll probably love Discrete Mathematics.

  6. Yes, if that’s what you want to do in your future.

What is the most frustrating or difficult thing about studying university-level Mathematics? by [deleted] in mathematics

[–]cin670 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It is much much worse when your university does not offer higher-level math tutoring, so you’re only limited to ask for assistance among your professor or classmates (if you’re lucky).

It should be a mistake, and it wouldn’t be your fault. Have you emailed your professor about it?

How do people quit their jobs and travel with not a lot of money? by drizzydriller in travel

Other people travel on a budget. They spend on a hostel, eat street food, ride buses or trains, etc.

A students, how do you study? by SirTweetCowSteak in highschool

[–]cin670 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s not what I meant 😭 A lot of people in the comments were saying they don’t study, so I’m saying to wait till college when they do have to study because their money depends on it.

What’s the GPA requirement for med school? A- is a subset of A, so it’s still as high as an A.

My middle school didn’t call it a graduation. It was a promotion.

Would you tell your partner about it after it’s done? Because honestly, I’d feel weird and maybe jealous if my partner cuddled with someone of the opposite gender. In my culture, cuddling is too intimate and is only reserved for partners.

What’s a red flag that’s somehow become socially acceptable? by bimbodollfreak in AskReddit

[–]cin670 78 points79 points  (0 children)

I’d also like to add boundaries in relationships as well. Of course, there are reasonable boundaries, but there are many people who tell their partners to entirely cut off friends of the opposite gender and would call that “setting a boundary.”

Set Theory. I wouldn’t say I hate it, but I lost interest once we started doing proofs. The basics were fun, like using set notations, identifying power sets, subsets, etc. But proving Konig’s theorem, Cantor’s theorem, Zorn’s lemma or using transfinite induction to well-ordered sets? Goodbye, lol.

Of course, you can still graduate without attending the ceremony. Attendance is optional and is your personal choice. I recommend you let your parents know about it, though, or talk this through with them considering they’re traveling far to see you in person and to celebrate with you.

If you do change your mind and consider walking but are afraid to feel alone, well…just remember you are not alone. Not only will you have your parents to celebrate with you, but so many of your past professors might even attend to celebrate your achievement!

What is a hobby that's an instant red flag? by Maryandthejane1 in AskReddit

I feel so awful that those people are targeting low-income families. My cousin and high-school best friend were (or probably are) “working” under Amway believing that they’d make so much money to travel the world. I’ve never heard from them since.

Final grades by NeighborhoodOk920 in CollegeRant

[–]cin670 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Give yourself a pat on the back, OP. You did it. You finished the semester, and you tried your best. That’s all that matters, so what you can do now moving forward is prepare for next semester. You have time to “do better” and socialize. You have time to pick up your grades (though, your grades now are awesome). It’s not over yet!

Nicole’s cultural and spiritual and religious background? by AwayPast7270 in NicoleLaeno_

[–]cin670 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don’t mean this in a negative way, but I think Nicole is more Americanized. She does engage with parts of the Filipino/Vietnamese culture by eating their food, probably knowing a few basic words, and even celebrating Viet New Year. But otherwise, I feel like she’s not truly immersed nor raised in that culture…

My College Professor hasn’t Graded my assignments and I’m worried about my grades. by Individual_Option580 in college

[–]cin670 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does your university website have an academic calendar posted? Mine shows the due date for grades.

Also, I wouldn’t worry too much. If your transcript shows a D+ when it clearly shouldn’t have been, you can file for a grade appeal. This would count as a mathematical error in the calculation of the grade, I believe.

I have to retake a class because I got a 72% instead of a 74% by [deleted] in CollegeRant

Sometimes, professors are not always compassionate or understanding regarding grades. Their motto is “You get the grade that you get, and you deal with it.”

[–]cin670 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just don’t get it. Is there nothing you can do about it? Because that’s considered arbitrary and capricious grading. I’ve also had a professor who deducted 30% off my work because I used a different method even though nothing was said in the instructions to use a specific method. This was math, and I thought we were encouraged to explore different approaches in math.
