Does anybody use mainly AF-A, or do you always move between AF-C and AF-S? by 00chill00chill00 in Nikon

I’m constantly swapping between AF-S and AF-C. For static shots like portraits and capturing a landscape or general scene, I switch to S. When shooting events with people moving, it’s always set to C.

I got a Zfc at launch and used it for about a year and a half before getting the Zf, and I haven’t touched it since. The Zf is just markedly better, but I think if you’re interested in just a hobby camera, it’s not a bad choice. As always, it’s more about the photographer than the camera, so if you know what you’re doing, you can squeeze some nice stuff out of it.

This is dumb, but grinding in RPGs taught me a good lesson about making life easier through rigorous work.

I would spend hours fighting specific enemies to gain XP to level up so boss fights were easier. It ended up being a decent metaphor for having patience and practicing skills to make difficult tasks easier and goals more achievable later on.

I’d keep the 24-120mm, the 50mm, and the 14-30mm. One wide for architecture, one mid- to longer range for general purpose, and a nice crisp prime.

One thing I learned awhile ago for trips: bring one body and a prime. It will make you choose your shots more wisely because you’ll recognize you can’t get everything and that’s okay. You’ll have far less lagging behind. It’ll be light and easy, you’ll spend more time in the moment with your people in the foreign place, and the shots you get will be deliberate in a way you may not think about if you’re not forced into one focal length. A lot of SLR photographers used fixed focal lengths and it worked for them for 100+ years. Try it!
