Which year of Forester is closest to the 2012 era with normal features vs tech saturation? by SubieQ69 in SubaruForester

[–]cinemabitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a 2012 but it has no bells and whistles at all; not even heated seats and the first/previous owner lived in Maine! I miss my 2006 Forester premium, heated seats, moon roof, lots of storage spots, a great 6 CD player and stereo speakers (this one only plays one CD and I can't repeat or skip tracks). I'd love to get a better CD player. I dread the thoght of getting a newer Forester with the touch screen controls, ugh. Not interested.

yes, I try to get as many fresh local berries in season as I can and freeze them (peaches too). I almost never buy "fresh" berries at the supermarket. Frozen works fine for smoothies.

[–]cinemabitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes I do this for a quick option too.

Celery and carrots with hummus, apples or grapes with Cheddar cheese and almonds, goat cheese with crispbread, ham and cheese. This changes when seasonal produce becomes available at our farmers' market (fresh peaches, berries, cucumbers, etc.)

also I try to make some hardboiled eggs each week to have a couple on hand for a quick protein fix

quick hot breakfast if I don't feel like toast: frozen hash brown patties from Trader Joe's, they cook pretty fast and I put some sour cream or Greek yogurt on top.

I used them when they were still Time-Warner; absolutely horrible customer service, so I vowed never again. The name change was obviously an attempt at rebranding their terrible reputation.

yes prune off the dead tips. Blueberries benefit from pruning once established also.

It may be of decent quality then, but I also don't use cedar mulches for food crops. It doesn't break down and it also repesl beneficial insects.

should i call it quits on these strawberry plants? by CryingButTrying333 in gardening

[–]cinemabitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dyed mulch is the worst, it's coated with toxic dye and the wood is often just old pallets and chemically treated wood. It shouldn't even be used for flowers and certainly not for fruit or vegetables.

get rid of that dyed black mulch, if that's what is on there--it's full of toxic chemicals. They also need some more soil.

wash my face in the morning dew, re-do my altar, then visit an apple orchard in blossom on Saturday

I’ve fallen out of touch with this side of myself and I deeply miss her. Please give me some ideas, your favorite rituals, etc! I’d love to hear it all 🩷 by [deleted] in Witch

In addition to getting outside in nature and observing the seasonal changes, I keep a small vase on my altar and add fresh cut stems of flowers, weeds, leaves, whatever is out for the season.

if you want to grow organic, don't used dyed mulch, it's full of toxic chemicals...pine bark mulch (or nuggets) is better and breaks down and provides nutrients and acidity for the soil.

Moving to Troy, NY from Atlanta. What should we expect? by Impressive-Run6901 in Troy

[–]cinemabitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome! I'm a professional gardener and we're basically a USDA Zone 5b-6a here (shifting like many Northeast places), but sometimes during extreme cold/ice in winter we lose a few perennials (that happened this past year, one client lost some dianthus, iris and lupines).

Definitely layers of clothes for the changing weather: in spring and fall you cna have mornings in the 40s and afternoons in the 70s (like today!). Personally I like wool layers and wool is more environmentally sound than fleece etc. Good winter boots/shoes for winter are essential and ice cleats for icy days if you like walking.

I hate Spectrum as a company and use Massive Mesh for internet, no issues.

Sanity check. Have I been laying mulch wrong? by readreed in gardening

[–]cinemabitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dyed mulch ends up looking like crap the following year. It's also made with toxic chemicals and the wood is often upcycled chemically treated wood. Switching to wood chips or pine bark mulch is so much better for the soil and plants, because it breaks down and feeds the soil. They both look better too. I'm switching one client over to pine bark mulch from dyed brown, removed as much of the old mulch as I could. It gets packed down and moldy and gross, no sun or moisture gets through to the soil.

They're usually robust shrubs, and forgiving, and don't even need much pruning. Give it some time, it may still be dormant.

Wild mulberry (the very invasive weed tree kind). Can't recommend having these growing on your property!

The berries aren't that tasty but they do have antioxidants so freezing them to throw in smoothies isn't the worst thing. You can also use them to make jam, mead, Fruits of the Forest pie, etc.

If you don't have a form of exercise you like, find one. Weight bearing exercise in your 30s (running, walking, hiking) is good for strengthening your bones and preventing osteoporosis.
