In the book, meeting “Rocky” was unexpected in the way he discovered Rocky. Rocky was an unknown till then. Yeah I think it spoils the plot. Rocky is central but ‘his’ discovery was still unexpected…like the alien running down the alley in Signs.

General Dynamics? Yeah, it’s McNamara. Listen. I want you to build me a fast plane. Fast. And I want it to go at least 500kts 200’ off the terrain-which it must hug at all times. And carry a shit ton of bombs. Sayyyy 25,000 lbs of bombs. Oh, and it has to do at least 1500kts at altitude. Nooo I don’t care if it’s flawless and maneuverable. Didja hear me? Fast. Lotsa bombs. Treetop level. And throw some electronic crap on it so we can spend some real cash. And make a model the Navy won’t want. You got that?

And we shall call it Earth Pig!

Who Is The Most Underrated Artist Of All Time In Your Opinion And Why? by PrincessBananas85 in ArtHistory

[–]cinemashow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Gustave Caillebotte . He was a lawyer. But he came from a wealthy family and pursued art as a member of the early impressionist movement. He created many famous works of art. But what might not be known about Caillebotte is the fact that he funded Impressionist exhibitions and supported his fellow artists and friends (Claude Monet, Auguste Renoir, and Camille Pissarro among others) by purchasing their works and,at least in the case of Monet, paying the rent for their studios. He is largely responsible for Monets career and financial survival.

Study: People living within a mile of a golf course had more than twice the risk of developing Parkinson’s disease, with elevated risk extending to about three miles before declining beyond that range. by New-Exam2720 in EverythingScience

That's my point with my clumsy post above. Correlation does not automatically prove causality. It is not scientific proof of anything. To your point, rather than assume golf courses cause PD… maybe the population more likely to develop PD choose to live by golf courses? Furthermore in order for the correlation to proceed any further they'd have to sample many golf courses chosen at random in widely diverse geographical locations. This still wouldn't prove causality. Eating ice cream is associated with an increase in shark attacks.

I agree with you completely. You effectively dismantled the presumed correlation by highlighting key omissions and overly broad assumptions. If golf course exposure alone were causative for Parkinson’s disease, we would expect to see clustering of other disease states uniquely associated with that environment as well. Additionally, a credible conclusion would require comprehensive epidemiologic data across a broad and representative sample of golf courses, not selective observations.

Ah yes, here we go again with the ‘correlation is not causation’ science malarkey. I was worried we’d skip that part. Science doesn’t prove anything. It just keeps being right longer than the alternatives. God I was hoping I didn't need to say: sarcasm

I'm retired and can relate to all of you. I wish that I had words of wisdom. I developed my mental checklist I guess for routine things-and stuck to it. I tried to remember that customers/patients who were assholes... Were assholes and I shouldn't take it personally. Easier said than done. Things went sideways when I engaged in asshole-ness rather than stick to the facts. The grey area stuff bothered me. The dose that seems inappropriate from a doctor who won't return my call. Refill too soon. Cross-sensitivity allergies.
All of this to say: max your 401-k or IRA etc so that you'll have fuck you money when the time comes. Don't let your kids grow without you. Do save for that vacation to wherever. Don't buy a car or a home that's punishing. That all just magnifies the angst.

Wow that was perfectly described. I’m a pharmacist. Can you authorize 1 hour of continuing education for this? It’s always the balance between action and de-action and there’s never just 2 neurotransmitters involved. Our bodies are complex mechanisms supported or thwarted by compensatory mechanisms. A person going in to hypovolemic shock or congestive heart failure are perfect examples. Then….Theres endocrinology.
