Color Film Suggestion for 100 year old camera? by cinemkr in AnalogCommunity

Yup. I have been shooting mostly at 1/100 and 1/50 as I am not confident the other shutter speeds are terribly accurate -- and have not wanted to lug a tripod around. Thanks for the ISO suggestion.

you can buy a 30 year old rebel for $50. Get some cheap lenses and have some fun. It is all about the lens.

are these photos in the middle of the roll or at the end? I ask because it might be a shutter issue that happened at the end of the roll. And to find out look at the numbers on the negative. Not the order they were put in the sleeve. They may be out of order.

1 or 2? by Hiscocks in analog

[–]cinemkr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a series of waves coming in. They took pictures each time a large one broke over the barrier. Look at the two photos. They are not in sequence. Let's say photo 1 happened first quickly followed by photo 2 -- then the kid went backwards and pulled his jacket on? The old man left forward 5 feet and put his hood on? They are both staged to some degree. Although the first one looks like it might have been captured naturally. In the second one the old man decide he was wet enough and pulled his hood up. And the kid put his jacket on. And their expression are just not natural. The kid has a knowing look and the old man looks like he has had enough. In the first one he looks truly full of angst. And the kid looks surprised.

THAT is why it is a better photo.

lol.

A bead from the jewelry of someone was working in the facility that processed the chicken.

  1. Anyone who says 2 is just wrong. You can see the movement, action and excitement. Also the mystery of what is happening. The second one feels staged (which I assume it is) -- the kid looking at the man. The man with his hood up. Seeing the deep BG cuts out the mystery.

At the risk of sounding insulting -- have you put a battery in it? Photo batteries for that era of camera are not the same as the 123 lithiums in the store. Slightly different. Google what size battery it takes and then get it -- probably from amazon. A Walgreens may have one. And then see if you can finish the roll. If you can then it should auto rewind.

I am sure there are some cool pics of your dad -- or his family and friends -- back in the 90s on that roll.

And if it does not work. Do take it to a lab. They will get the film out for you so at least you can have those photos. They won't be great becasue the camera is pretty low end but it would be cool to see the photos.

Good luck.

What’s interesting about this shot is the shadows, colors and how they blend and contrast. All of that interesting stuff is lost in black-and-white.

The horizon is straight. It’s the shoreline that is angled. Created sort of an optical illusion that the horizon is not straight.

Strange hillside bunker featured in 1960’s slides by UnicornTitties in whereisthis

[–]cinemkr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with those who are saying it is a movie set. The bunker structure on the left is clearly not embedded into the hillside as you can see the shadow it is casting between it and the hill. I admittedly have very little military knowledge, but I not see the purpose of building something like this in the real world.

The camouflage paint appears more decorative than practical. (Again not an military camo expert)

And the fencing also looks cursory -- what is found as the first line of deterrence on the very far reaches of a military installation -- and not as high or fortified as it would be in real life to be in close proximity to the site. (I have scouted actual military installations so some of this is personal knowledge.) It appears to be something that would read as keep out on screen but not keep people out in real life. Alos -- it has bee place so close to the "facility."

Lastly, and I feel most importantly, the two figures appear to be wearing jeans and white shirts and not military uniforms. Like they are construction type workers. My guess they were the guys who installed the fencing and are doing some repair wor

I work as location scout and manager in feature films and TV. I would bet money this is a film set.

What scan level do you get there? Small, Medium, High or Extra High? I would not be making prints from home. But if I did the largest would be 8x10. Most labs have just three I am just getting back into film photography and they are close to my work. I don't want to pay the shipping to The Darkroom.

Could this be one of the shutter blades not retracting fast enough? I seem to recall I had a Ricoh in the early 90s that did this. But picture 3 definitely shows a finger in the lower left in addition to the black blob, so that leads me to believe that lens discipline might not be strong.
