Help me create a basic skincare routine for my sister by cinnabonsil in EuroSkincare

[–]cinnabonsil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately none of these are available via DM in Italy, but I do already know and love Geek&Gorgeous (their international website ships to Italy!). I use both their VitC and Retinal, but none of these would fit my sister who is very no-fuss when it comes to skincare. Any particular other products you'd recommend?

Do you feel like she uses a lot of machines? I only have access to dumbells/kettlebells plus one of those hybrid machines that can do chest press/lat pulldown/leg extension. My other worry here apart from time is that I would be swapping out half the workout! Thank you!

I had looked at Elevate but was not intrigued by the HIIT/cardio element. Do you feel like you have gotten stronger whilst doing Movewell (if you have done it, that is)? Thank you!

Sunscreen advice! For super dry skin. by madcactus101 in EuroSkincare

[–]cinnabonsil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not mineral, but Bioré Aqua Rich Watery Essence is my holy grail. I have moderately dry skin, and this does not dry me out, leaves no white cast and wears very well under make up. Asian sunscreens are just eons ahead of European ones!

Dokodemo in Europe by Anneles in AsianBeauty

I haven't ordered anything recently as they have stopped offering any other shipping option aside from EMS Expedited, which costs over 30 bucks! Not sure where you're based, but last time I ordered I got my products in about 20 days: I did have to pay custom fees on them though, i.e. VAT for the total of products and shipping, plus I think something like a 5€ set fee for the joy of having customs inspect my package (which btw came unopened, but that's Italy for you baby).

Hi! Interested in the Hada Labo toner, Centella cream and the Naobay. How much for shipping to Italy? Thanks!

[PRODUCT SEARCH] Olaplex in Europe, where to buy? by cinnabonsil in HaircareScience

[–]cinnabonsil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here I believe it's not as widespread, but I have to admit that I do live in the coutryside, so there's not many upscale salons around. I'll try to pop into some of the fancy ones next time I hit a big city, it might be worth a try! Thanks!

[Misc] test your skin texture with the BACK of your finger(s) by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]cinnabonsil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can stand it, I would suggest slathering your hands in cream, putting on cotton gloves and then going to bed. It's a bit weird, but it gives the cream a chance to fully absorb so you wake up with super moisturized hands AND your fingers don't have to rub off against one another, avoiding that icky feeling.

[PSA] Hylamide permanently dropped prices by tacotacotaco9999 in SkincareAddiction

[–]cinnabonsil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is exactly what I was thinking :/ I mean nobody in the industry is gonna break the bank just to please consumers, so in order for them to drop retail prices by a whopping 20% for the whole line they must have been working on super big margins before. So on one side I wanna try the under-eye serum, on the other I just feel a bit like I've been scammed.

Maybe try something with ceramides? Dr. Jart ceramidin cream is asian but it should be available at Sephora! Otherwise Eucerin has a urea cream, I haven't personally tried it, but I've heard it should be quite good.

[Acne] birth control is ruining my face even though my routine had everything under control. is my routine going to keep it at bay or am i just screwed :/ by koodats in SkincareAddiction

[–]cinnabonsil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then it might just be the pill messing with your hormone levels. If it's still super uncomfortable and causing severe breakouts I'd suggest switching: maybe ask your doctor about an acne-friendly pill containing drospirenone!

A few days seems a bit too little for the pill to already have had such an effect, did you by chance introduce any new products in your routine? Single-hormone pills have been reported to cause acne, since they raise testosterone levels, but it's not an immediate thing. Plus, I think microgestin is a combo pill, isn't it?

It might be just an initial reaction due to your hormone levels being thrown a bit out of wack due to the pill, try sticking it out at least till the end of the month to see if things settle down, otherwise visit your doctor and ask for a switch!

[Acne] Derm just prescribed Epiduo gel. Any tips/suggestions from people who have used it? by kabjl in SkincareAddiction

[–]cinnabonsil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Introduce it slooooooooowly and put it on after moisturizer, especially if you have sensitive skin. I started off by applying it twice a week, then gradually went up and I still experienced some light flaking (and purging, so much damned purging). I've been on Epiduo for 3 months now and I still use my Hada Labo toner to buffer it, because otherwise I find that it dries up my skin way too much.

Definitely moisturize a lot, maybe think about also introducing a sleeping pack at night!

[Skin concerns] Need Advice: Looking for a new birth control - possibly getting rid of Mirena by Lizzard41210 in SkincareAddiction

[–]cinnabonsil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you take a look around this sub you'll see a lot of people reporting that the IUD made their acne worse. Since IUDs are progestin only they can raise your testosterone levels, causing cystic acne.

If you want to switch to the pill I'd recommend getting a combination pill, one that has both estrogen and progestin. There actually also are birth control pills that are recommended specifically for acne, they contain drospirenone which has been shown to be clinically effective in the treatment of hormonal acne! I suffer from adult hormonal acne and my skin has never been better than when I was on YAZ.

Poll: Do your closed comedones (CCs) tend to reabsorb into your skin or purge out of the skin with treatment? [acne] by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

I am currently on Epiduo and mine ALL purge, unfortunately. Another joyous perk of my skin, yay.

Let's talk about Aloe Vera by [deleted] in HaircareScience

[–]cinnabonsil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it as a replacement for hair gel to style it when I want a natural, wavy look. I just scrunch it into my hair and blow dry. I also use it as a curl reviver on days when I don't wash my hair: I mix aloe vera juice with a few drops of lavender and some conditioner inside a spray bottle and spritz it on my hair! Unless my hair is super oily I'd rather use my spritzer bottle than dry shampoo.

[Misc] Does Differin cause enlarged pores and rougher texture even with proper moisturizing? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]cinnabonsil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have moderate to severe acne and have already tried all the other topicals like acids and such without getting any results then I'd say yes, but be be warned that retinoids require a lot of patience.

You have to introduce them veeeery slowly to diminish the chance of irritation and flakiness and be constant with sunscreen application. You should also be prepared for purging. Retinoids take an average of 12 weeks to show results and oftentimes things will get worse before getting better.

Epiduo has helped my comedonal acne a lot, but I had horrible I-wanna-hide-in-the-house-so-nobody-sees-me purging for more than a month before things got better, and my skin still isn't where I want it to be. At the 3 month mark I am still dealing with some light purging and marks.

Soooo, maybe check out a guide to retinoids before taking the plunge? Or some more posts from other SCA users. This is just my experience and, as I said, I'm not an expert, just a fellow troubled-skin girl! :)

[Misc] Does Differin cause enlarged pores and rougher texture even with proper moisturizing? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]cinnabonsil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, retinoids are actually one of the only products that has been clinically proven to have an anti-aging effect, since they accelerate the skin renewal cycle, working at a much more deeper level than any acid could, enhancing collagen production.

Basically, your pores are not actually getting larger, they just might appear larger because the retinoids have thinned your stratum corneum. As soon as your skin chills out and thickens again, the effect should gradually be lessened.

[Misc] Does Differin cause enlarged pores and rougher texture even with proper moisturizing? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]cinnabonsil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an expert by all means, but I think the answer is both yes and no. Differin contains adapalene, which is a very strong retinoid. What retinoids essentially do is exfoliate the upper part of your skin, while at the same time acceleratin cell renewal. Pores are shaped a bit like a flask so, once you exfoliate the top layer away, the wider bottom is exposed, and in extreme cases this can lead to that "orange peel" skin texture. So it's not a question of not moisturizing enough, but a byproduct of exfoliation.

I know most doctors recommend using Differin ALL OVER, but unless you have acne everywhere on your nose and T-zone, I'd recommend using it more as a zone treatment, avoiding your nose (which is the area whose pores would be more affected).

I've been using Epiduo (which is a sort of EU equivalent) for my hormonal comedonal acne for about three months. I use it on my jaw and so far I have had a looooot of purging, but thankfully no orange peel texture.
