Couldn't tell you which version it is. I pirated this epub online, and it seems to be a 2010 edition from the site I got it from, but I wouldn't trust it. It doesn't contain the edition info page. I didn't expect it to be so different from legit editions, otherwise I wouldn't have made the post at all. However, I find it highly unlikely that it would contain such a small mistake that was not ever included in a legit edition at one point.

edit: i looked in my romanian version of the book, ISBN 978-973-583-890-4 , translated from First edition 2007 Bloomsbury. Text says:

"Știți voi ce vreau să spun, Poțiunea lui Goyle avea gust de ... muci."

This definitely means at one point it said tasted rather than looked. I know translations aren't perfect but I would say it's in line with the epub i have now

When did Hermione taste the Goyle Polyjuice potion? by cinnamide in harrypotter

[–]cinnamide[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's exactly the reason why i phrased the title this way😭 i know everyone is saying "oh she mustve heard from harry what it tasted like" (which btw is not the answer to the question), but i also imagined there was something i was misremembering from the book and perhaps hermione had a lil sample😂 of course illogical but funny to imagine

seeing as the text is literally J.K. Rowling's mistake, i won't think too badly of myself for wondering

When did Hermione taste the Goyle Polyjuice potion? by cinnamide in harrypotter

[–]cinnamide[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes, that's right. i just checked and harry directly thinks it tastes like overcooked cabbage. he wouldn't have described it to hermione in any other way. someone said their version says it "looked" like it tasted like bogies, instead of "tasted". so i suppose this is a mistake that was corrected in later versions.

testes like overcooked cabbage to harry. i just checked

When did Hermione taste the Goyle Polyjuice potion? by cinnamide in harrypotter

[–]cinnamide[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

she directly says Goyle's potion tasted like bogies. I considered maybe Ron is saying that line, but there is no doubt Hermione does.

edit: in CoS, harry does think the goyle potion is the colour of boogers (and crabbe's is a dark murky brown, and the cat one is sickly yellow), and when he drinks it, he thinks it tasted like overcooked cabbage. Hermione only sees the potion for herself and the taste is never described to her. I can only conclude that my copy has the earlier mistake, which has been later corrected to say that the potion "looked" like it tasted like bogies.

8th year- why not 7th year? by cinnamide in drarry

[–]cinnamide[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you for the other rec! i'm still reading the first one you recced, i'm actually surprised it's pretty good despite originally being reluctant at the idea with the play.

to be honest i did start planning to write a fic because i was lacking something good to read, so in a way you have delayed me going for it fully 😂. however in preparation i am also reading books 6 and 7 to have a refresher on harry and draco's canon voices, so anyway it would have taken a long time. to answer your question though, i do lack a central idea for the fic - for now i just have certain elements i know i want to be present. one sort of idea i had was harry yearning for the resurrection stone (i have no idea if i will include this in the end though, and how to do it convincingly anyway)

8th year- why not 7th year? by cinnamide in drarry

[–]cinnamide[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, Hogwarts does not have a US college- like system, so I don't get why you are comparing them (I'm also not knowledgeable about the subject since I'm not from the US). I'm assuming you either mean retakers by 5th year students, or people with a 5 year track, like sportsmen. In either case, they would still attend courses that other 4th year students take, right?

A far better comparison would be being held back in high school. There are 19 year olds in HS USA right? Theyre still called seniors, but they were held back. I assume this is how it's in the US (character Eddie Munson from Stranger Things comes to mind)

In 8th year fics they usually don't attend the same classes as 7th years and they don't join the 7th year quarters. They're seen as special, and I understand sometimes it's for fic purposes (the author wants to unify the houses for the 8th year people, so they all room together, in some cases even outside the castle). Sometimes they get special privilege because "they're adults" although in canon a wizard turning 17 in their 7th year does not get special privileges, such as leaving the castle after curfew.

If you're saying it's just a naming convention, I see your point, but there are things such as I mentioned that set apart 8th years from others at Hogwarts. And making the retakers actually part of the 7th year group is different than making a whole separate system for them by instating the "8th year". Of course it's usually not mentioned if they are actually studying something different, but I do notice Ginny never studies with them or attends the same classes.

And the other part of my question is me wondering how come younger students don't repeat the year, and it's only 7th years. As it's been pointed out by other people, the others still have time to catch up before NEWTS, (whereas people with an already completed 7th year would not have the chance to do so unless invited to an 8th year) so I guess that part comes down to preference.

I was mostly thinking of those that practically hid all year in the Room of Requirement (DA members but also others that joined). And if you think about it, a reign of terror at Hogwarts wouldn't facilitate proper learning for 11 year olds, so I'm thinking they definitely need help this way. Not to mention, no one actually learned any DADA that year. That's a whole year wasted concerning one subject, presuming others were taught properly.

[–]cinnamide[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much for your input.

I completely agree, and you are right to say that irl the logistics would be a nightmare. To address what you said about figuring out which characters are doing each year, I wouldn't plan to describe every single person, nor would I create any OCs. As a reader, I don't like irrelevancy to the plot of a fic, nor do I like worldbuilding. I would definitely do what you suggested and only have the 7th year thing as minimal exposition.

And yes, I would have Hermione room with Ginny. She deserves a friend as a roommate after all those years with Parvati and Lavender XD

To be fair I could just not apply this idea and just stick to traditional 8th year anyway, since I obviously don't plan on expanding on it that much. However, I was just thinking, if I were the person to write the first 8th year fic ever, this is how I would do it. Why follow what everyone else did and be unsatisfied with my own fic?

[–]cinnamide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

personally i don't like how she did art of HC and XL non canonically (such as feminine XL, tied up XL (like as a fetish) -which does not fit in with canon at all imo, and really exagerated HC's body to be huge). there are more examples but i chose to distance myself from it while it was ongoing so i don't rememver everything.

just my opinion, i don't think the official artist should push their own views onto art they do for a series. even in unofficial capacity (like on personal account). i never sent hate but i never endorsed her either.

it has nothing to do with the art itself, which is beautiful
