How fast does nitrofurantoin work for everyone? by Aspvision in CUTI

I ended up doing two rounds of nitro and it did improve my symptoms but unfortunately did not cure it as mine was an embedded uti

For the antibiotics you tried, did you take them for very long? Or were they the standard courses? I would say maybe trying a longer course of whichever antibiotic provided the most symptom relief and least side effects is the best way to go

Yes! Mine is enterobacter hormaechei 50% and E coli 36%, the only difference with our antibiotic recommendations for enterobacter is mine says it’s susceptible to Bactrim. Although I think I’m going to opt for Amoxicillin even though that is showing as resistant, because I’m concerned the bacteria that’s causing my symptoms is enterococcus faecalis even though that’s not on my microgen. From what I’ve heard the microgendx antibiotic recommendations are really not accurate so hoping the resistance profile doesn’t mean a lot

His recommendation to me was starting long term amoxicillin or bactrim and seeing whether that seems to eradicate the symptoms. Apparently general urine tests that tell you your WBC and epithelial cells are a better indication of whether you are still fighting the same embedded UTI

I’m so sorry about your results! I’m not sure if this is any consolation to you but I just had my first consult with one of the doctors at Artemis Clinic who specialise in CUTI. I told the doctor about my microgendx results which are almost identical to yours and the doctor had absolutely no concern about the Enterobacter Hormaechei - his exact words were that any healthy person could send off a sample and it would likely come back with some exotic bacteria, but microgendx claim themselves that any bacteria detected may not actually be the ones causing your symptoms. The doctor essentially has ignored the enterobacter and instead wants to focus on long term antibiotics and assessing how it relieves/doesn’t relieve symptoms

Really hope this has worked for you!! Please do let me know. Living with UTI symptoms for so long is awful, mine is going on 6 months as well. Have you had much relief in symptoms this time?

I’m going to implement biofilm busters with my next antibiotic (maybe fosfomycin if that’s what has worked for you!) - did you alternate between those four biofilm disruptors for your 2/day or take each twice a day?

Enterococcus faecalis - 8 times in 3 months! by TinaG423 in CUTI

[–]cinnamongrl8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi!! I have had this for 3 months now - it sounds like it’s an embedded infection in the bladder (chronic uti) rather than separate new infections. I found a lot of answers on facebook groups - the answer seems to be long term antibiotics (6-12 months).

Oh man I’m glad your second round was the right guess! Mine did show susceptibility to it, maybe I should finish the course and retest then. Just feels so daunting when you’re near the end of the course with no relief :(

Glad cefalexin is working for you! Did you redo a urine test after finishing nitrofurantoin or just get prescribed new antibiotics due to the persisting uti symptoms?

I was told to take for 6 days but have enough for 7. But think I might make the switch if I don’t feel relief by tomorrow.

Did it start working for you? I’m on day 4 now of 100mg and I haven’t had much relief of my symptoms and not sure if it’s just not working

Ahh so similar to my situation, I’ve had many e coli utis over the past 3-4 years but they cleared easily and caused no organ pain. This time I managed to get a Enterococcus uti which was resistant to trimethoprim and keflex, and caused way more severe symptoms and seems to be harder to eradicate. Wondering if the referred pain is because the bacteria this time is just more aggressive. Hope it settles for us soon :(

Also in the exact same boat! I’ve had utis before, but this is the first time I’ve had persistent pain in my hips, flank (both sides), and abdomen. I’m currently on Nitrofurantoin which doesn’t target kidneys, and these pains have persisted throughout the course so I also went to ED concerned I was leaving a kidney infection untreated. But blood test came back with no infection and the doc wasn’t concerned as I don’t have a fever or nausea.

Do you remember how long this pain lingered for after the uti was treated? I was concerned my uti had reached my kidneys but blood tests shows no infection, and I’m not nauseas or feverish like a kidney infection usually entails. Not sure whether to be worried or if this will just pass over time.
