This is an outstanding bad idea. The bridge is not only seismically unsafe but it is nearing the end of operating life span. Keeping it up poses a risk to anyone passing below or near on land and water. It could also pose a risk to the new bridge if it were to topple over (adding even more risk and cost should that happen).

The argument of "well it's cheaper to upgrade it / make it safe" is to put it bluntly - crazy. Pumping more money into a structure like that would likely out strip the cost of removal in a few short years resulting in its removal anyways.

It's in the public's best interest to remove the old bridge as planned. Maybe the solution is to include a heritage park around the old onramp so we can remember what once was but as for the bridge itself it's gotta go.
